It's a fancy family hauler. I would buy it in the first 5 or 10 years of my kids life and then go for the Honda Odyssey when things get more demanding. Though the 4motion is nice.
It's still a VW. I simply can't ignore that fact. I'm dying for the perfect dad-wagon, but this isn't it. How about you guys get your hands on the new Jaguar XF Wagon...?
Car reviewing in winter, this is another reason why this channel is great! The majority of car reviews seem to be in places where the only "snow" they know goes up the nose..
I have a 2017 Alltrack.Totally agree with your review. It's a great car overall, and does just about everything right. One exception - power. I've found it so much better after installing the APR Stage 1 tune (240hp and 290lbft!) and DSG tune... totally transformed the car.
I've been watching car reviews on UA-cam for years. But for some reason, I just barely stumbled upon these guys. Best thing that ever happened to me. They're straight to the point, thorough, comical, and honest. They need more subscribers!!
This review was a big influencer in helping me pull the trigger on an Alltrack. I love that you guys review a wide range of cars that all types of buyers can learn from. Hard to find any other single source for that in video format. Keep the quirks and insight coming!
@@andrewh7345 OK thx for info. We've had several golf over the years. My wife had an r32 for over a decade and it was brilliant. Then got decent money when she finally sold it. Well built, reliable cars, if you look after them. Like most cars these days. If you really like it, you're more likely to look after it I think. I've now got an old passat awd, and I'll have to consider something newer one day. Golf all-track ticks all the boxes. Pricey here tho.( scotland) cheers
For years, Motortrend was my go to place for car reviews. But as of late, Jakub and Yuri are my favorite reviewers! Keep up the awesome work guys! :) Now I enjoy you guys reviewing "mundane" cars more than Motortrend reviewing super cars!
Drake INFINITY1421 they aren't bringing the golf back to America for the new generation. Only on the GTI. My mom just picked up a 6 speed manual alltrack since production is ending in December and it was our last chance.
the nice comment section thing happened to me, but just wait for your channel to get past 100k. some people all of the sudden will hate what you do on the simple fact that you are nice and talk freely, but keep up the good work, you have very entertaining videos.

It should be pointed out that the AllTrack and the SportWagen are now available with a 6 speed manual and 4Motion on all trim levels in Canada. Also happy to see that adaptive cruise and the other driving aids are available on mid tier and up instead of just the top trim level. I was hoping this would be a review of the manual version. I think the AWD-manual-turbo-wagon combo will become a cult classic. It's only brown paint and a diesel engine away from perfect.
My brother bought a 2017 VW Golf Alltrack in Denver. We flew out and drove it back to Boston in a weekend. In a car with less than 1000 miles on it we got our best tank average MPG of 36! This was equipped with the 6-speed manual. That 1.8t with direct injection was very responsive and fuel efficient, not an easy combination to engineer! The car's color is white and the car's name is Walter. I already put a Heisenberg sticker on it! Vw has nailed it with this one!
You don't have to start the car and turn it off to access the wipers; you can either turn the wipers on once after turning off the car, or if the car is already off, turn the key to turn the electronics on-then back off-and turn the wiper blades on once
Great video, honestly I just subbed to you guys and I’m loving this format you use, it’s so laid back and actually engaging, well done...always nice to see UA-camrs from the GTA too! Anyway all that stuff Jakub mentioned about the wipers and nozzles have been specific to VWs since like 2006..the “service” mode I believe doubles as a winter mode because of the fact that having the wipers up like that prevents ice build up, so technically you don’t have to also lift the wipers... Keep it up guys, these videos are great!
I bought a new 2022 Honda Accord hybrid new. Traded it after just a year of ownership for this car, and I have been happier than I have with any car I have ever owned. This video nails all the wonderful things about this car, but this car is superior in so many ways. The ergonomics are Volvo-level. Everything about the car feels dialed in and well thought out. My Honda Accord hybrid was getting 39-42 MPG, and this VW gets 36-40 MPG on highway road trips. I get nice power, but it comes with everything you could want or need in a practical family vehicle: rear cargo space, comfortable "premium feel" seats, agile, responsive steering, roof rails, and an engine and transmission that is reliable and easy to work on. THANK YOU for this video, it helped me make this switch. This is the first time I have bought a new car, then traded it in on a used car, but it was the right move for me.
Love the videos gents! I just bought a 2016 GTI and I love cars and know a lot but every time I watch a VW video I learn something new about my GTI. Keep up the great work! You will hit 1 Million subs in no time!
2:29 Well, as a german I can agree with that statement being aware of the fact, that the Passat is differentiated in two totally different models for the US and europe market. Last one is segmentwise placed above the Golf, just as it should be normally also for the US Market. But there's no cheaper US Version for the Golf, which is the cause for the fact, that this tested Alltrack feels way more "luxurious and better" than the (US-) Passat. Thanks for the Review guys. I appreciate your good work as always!
Love your review, pretty much spot-on. I have had mine for two years now, and I am still surprised by both the great handling and comfort of this car, while getting an almost unbelievable good mileage for such an AWD hauler.
White 92 Nissan quest fam here! I used to neutral drop it and beat civic hatches in drag races lol. My friends called it the supercharged minivan. It was a legendary car. I also bought an Alltrack because of you guys! It's my slowest car and the first car I've had that's even offered in automatic. I freaking love it.

I am from the future, and just drove the 2019 Sportwagen here in 2020 (you don't want to know). Everything that I dislike about driving our '19 Outback 3.6 is fixed in the VW. It will be our next family sharing car, even though we love our Subaru for the cushy, numb Vista Cruiser ride, that is the polar vortex opposite of this VW.
In the US, you can buy this in 3 trim levels. S, SE, and SEL. I just bought the S. I have fake leather, no sunroof and no fender, but everything else is the same. I love it!
Volkswagen has been doing this to the wipers since 2005! Nothing new. This Is Haldex 5th Generation AWD System. It’s 60/40. It can send 100% to the rear wheels.
all i found online is that it's mostly 90/10 if you're driving straight and 50/50 at most for the back. I don't know if any AWD system sends all power to the rear, even Lamborghini's never do
I picked up a brand new Alltrack S (White w/ Brown interior) back in August for $21.5K during the VW clearance event...I LOVE THIS CAR!!! Funny thing is that I was coming off a 2003 Honda Element (165K miles!) This Alltrack has really reconnected me to the DRIVING Experience! The Element was definitely a versatile utilitarian ride but was certainly lacking on the horsepower front. The Alltrack meets up with those same utilitarian needs but really MOVES out! You CANNOT go wrong with the vehicle. Fully agree with your two thumbs up assessment! Thanks much for your FUN FILLED review!!!
As a Mazda 6 wagon owner, this checks all the boxes to replace it. Not sure if the upgrade to the Alltrack is worth it over the regular wagon, but it’s a nice looking wagon overall and love it in green.

I agree about the Grand Tour. I'm loving it this season, it feels so much more natural and interesting. I look forward to it every week, and this show gets me through the wait. ;)
It's very nice and refreshing that your reviews cater towards the buyers of the specific car. You're not doing an enthusiast oriented review on an AWD station wagon, for example. Going over the little details that most reviewers don't touch on is very cool as well.
I always forget to check, but this time I remembered! $38,000 Canadian buckaroos ~ $30,328 American buckaroos $32,500 Canadian buckaroos ~ $25,940 American buckaroos
Haha, it's legit always in the back of my head. "Oh, yeah, I was going to look that price up here." As long as I remember, I will for sure do it. I'm always like, "How excited should I be about that price?"

Just started watching your videos a week ago. Boy oh boy it didn't take long for me to hit subscribe and even the bell. You're doing a great job, all the best in 2018!
I absolutely love the shot and the perfect timing of the beautiful Rex turning his head just as the camera zooms in. (4:26) “Does it rewind satellite radio?’ .... “NO!” .... “Back to the review.” :-). (1:12). A cool video all-around, gentlemen.
Hey I’m getting a 2017 Alltrack this week as well. Do you mind sharing the info on how I can get the APR stage 1? I’m very interested in getting a tune but I’ve never done so before.
I've been binge watching your channel since yesterday. I can't put my finger on it, but you guys are really fun to watch. Subscribed and notifications on!
So, first off, you guys are great, thank you. Keep being Canadian and “real” about each car! Gotta contribute an opinion as it applies to this review in a way, kind of, sort of...earlier this year, I went from a Jetta Sportwagen to a new outback thinking I needed a bigger car, but after driving it a year, went back to this Alltrack (in red, of course), and I couldn’t be happier. The subie was just as you determined in your legacy review, the most boring of all to drive. It was an embarrassing mistake, corrected by my inevitable return to VW. One can truly enjoy a practical, sporty, driving experience whilst taking 11 boxes worth of stuff along for the ride! Thanks, Canadian dudes! Two thumbs up!
I was at the VW dealership just yesterday and 1. the service was fantastic, but 2. I test drove the 2017 Sportwagen with a 14L Turbo, and I fell in love. Definitely buying a 2019 the second I get the chance before theyre all gone.
only you 2 could turn a video about a pretty average wagon into an entertaining (and philosophical? - leather debate) review. lol'd at the gift card holder, looking forward to 2018 content!
I love the small touches your videos have such as the visor test. My buddies Lincoln Navigator has dual sun visors that slide which I am surprised I don't see on more cars. I think that is currently the best one I have come across.
I've noticed that with all the stats you give about the engine, torque, etc. you never mention gas mileage. Personally, that is high on my list , especially in a family car like this. Just a thought.
Wicked review, I have a 2017 Golf Alltrack and I absolutely love it! It is also very handy that you can store the trunk cover underneath the trunk floor so you never have to leave it behind. Wagon's rule!!
So any chance to compare this to new Tiguan? Again planning to get my wife a new car in the summer. Not sure which is better? Again thanks for the video cuz I did not even look into this car, now I have another option. (Msg from Hong Kong viewer who will move back to Toronto over summer)
I own a white Alltrack here in Ontario and absolutely love this car. Anyone looking for a comfortable and reliable bike/kayak/SUP hauler this fits the build!
I'm not too sure how's it in Canada but here in Malaysia, VW is notorious for the damn dry dsg 7 speed gearbox... Owners spend more time on rental cars than the VW!
Liked that you covered the drive modes, the 4motion and other nitpicky stuff (wipers, washer fluid) and the driver assist stuff. I haven't come across a video that talks about those points. Great video!
I've had this car for 2 years now and its great! Its a great overall car, looks good, enought space, equipment, fun to drive, very comfy, quality interior, love the traffic jam and adaptive cruise control. Buy the panoramic roof, def worth it! The negative....it can be loud in high speeds, and its a bit thirsty 7.7 liters, thats about it!
Gents, this video did help tip my hand in 2019. I bought a manual SEL in December at a huge discount. It’s been a flawless unicorn, tuned of course. Don’t think I’m not grateful to you!
I believe I saw this video more than #10 times as I am planning to buy a car and I test drove this car and is real fun to drive. #Kudos to you guys, you make people life easier. Every details of your review about the car makes so sense.
My '12 TDI was ALWAYS in the wrong gear. Like 3 gears off... Now I shift my own gears, and I'm happy. And that road wasn't very slippery...if the road is coated with ice, then you have a slippery road.
It's getting better than it was before. The 1.8t is pretty reliable as they have been making that engine for a while now as well. The DSG Transmissions have also been pretty solid since 2010-11 or so.
VW have had average reliability for about a decade. Average on a modern car is much better reliability than 20 years ago. I’ve had a very solid experience in five years of ownership, would get another without question.
My 2010 GTI, 2014 Tiguan and 2013 TDI have all done over 130k without repairs. My 2016 GTI has 40k on it without issue. Even my old 92 Audi s4 had 300k on it with all factory parts still minus consumable parts.
So what do you guys think? Ultimate reasonable family hauler?
Definitely on my list for my next ride. Plus in the US you can get a manual! They seem to be going for as much as 5k under MSRP. Thanks dieselgate!
I kind of like the blue
It's a fancy family hauler. I would buy it in the first 5 or 10 years of my kids life and then go for the Honda Odyssey when things get more demanding. Though the 4motion is nice.

“Does it rewind satellite radio?’ .... “NO!” .... “Back to the review.” :-). (1:12). A cool video all-around, gentlemen.
Thanks!!
Send this to VW corporate because they are killing this car after this year! I have a 17 SE w/ APR stage 1.. it rips!
are u serious?? that sucks!! this car is awesome
Send this clip and re tweet!! Keep this wagon alive in USA
Hey I’m getting a 2017 Alltrack this week as well. Do you mind sharing the info on how I can get the APR stage 1? I’m very interested in getting a tune but I’ve never done so before.
Nick Rodriguez shoot over to APR's website and find the closest dealer.
From being a SaabKyle04 die hard for many years, I've come to absolutely love your videos. I get everything I want to know in a smaller, funnier gist
+Ryan Jordan awesome, thanks. Kyle is great, we met him a few times
Yuri, VolKSwagen not VolTZwagen :)
BTW, I love your work guys.
VOLKSWAGON! noted! just like how I used to say gaZoline
Haha I noticed that, too! :D
In Poland a bunch of people pronounce it "foltzvagen". Must be an Eastern European thing, though Yuri and Jakub seem to be born in Canada.
Hello Yuri :D
Did you note Volkswägon or Volkswagen? :3
americanstylefreak ffffoltszvagonnnn
I've been binge watching your channel since yesterday. I can't put my finger on it, but you guys are really fun to watch. Subscribed and notifications on!
+Ravi Panjini awesome thanks
Yes team up with the goose
I'm still not even sure what this real name is
I like these guys because they show you what the car is about without being super picky and love their upbeat tempo
Thanks!
+Malek Badwan right on
You had me at cornering lights!
Well now you guys gotta get your hands on a Subaru Crosstrek!
tweet subaru canada and tell them what you want us to review!
Crosstrek is so slow
Test drove a 2018 Crosstrek in a manual and boy it's slow you don't notice it until you drive it on the highway it's acceleration is terrible
@1betterthanyou1 not 200+ at least 170~190
Thank you for this epic review guys! We just bought 1: 2017 VW Alltrack in White. Awesome car :)
Savagease and Straightpipes... Best ever! You guys are more funny though 😁... And Vegan seats wins all the time!
Neo truth
I was at the VW dealership just yesterday and 1. the service was fantastic, but 2. I test drove the 2017 Sportwagen with a 14L Turbo, and I fell in love. Definitely buying a 2019 the second I get the chance before theyre all gone.
only you 2 could turn a video about a pretty average wagon into an entertaining (and philosophical? - leather debate) review. lol'd at the gift card holder, looking forward to 2018 content!
Vick Lagina this wasn’t even that average. It was slightly above average!
+Colin Boone great car
The wheels look really nice
You guys are the best. I love your dorky but informational reviews, plus it's just fun to watch you drive around in cool cars.
Have you thought of the APR Plus for the 1.8? You may just adore your alltrack even more... Speaking from experience:)
What are the numbers man?!? Hp/Tq
This video has solidified my choice to get one of these as the new family mobile.
Love the vids!
Joshua Dotson get Tiguan instead , higher driving position and heavily discounted...
OMG 3:12 wtf I'm wheezing xD
Great video, guys! Your commentary is always very natural, but also educational. Keep up the good work!
Yuri's hum sounds more like the mission impossible song.
I bought an Alltrack because of this review! Nice video, good job!
Enjoy! I do love mine
You find ”service mode” for the wipers on many different cars....nothing unique for Volkswagen. Im surprised you didnt know...
This is the BEST channel on UA-cam. You guys are so natural. Keep up the great work. Regards from Brazil.
Thanks
Man I love your reviews! Keep up the great job! Personally I'd get a mid spec Sportwagen Comfortline with 4Motion, manual and lighting package
Vlad Saghin I have this exact car but no lighting package :( I love it though!
Invizion I think it's a great option at 800$ give or take, especially during wintertime when it's dark at 4pm
Vlad Saghin I agree, probably going to get lighting package headlights at some point
Big shout-out to you guys from Sunshine State! You guys rock. Thanks for interesting videos. I truly enjoy watching them. Keep up the good work!
+Daniel Sobirov awesome thanks
I'm not too sure how's it in Canada but here in Malaysia, VW is notorious for the damn dry dsg 7 speed gearbox... Owners spend more time on rental cars than the VW!
many vws here come with the dsg. just change the fluid every 40k and ur good
Liked that you covered the drive modes, the 4motion and other nitpicky stuff (wipers, washer fluid) and the driver assist stuff. I haven't come across a video that talks about those points. Great video!
+worldeyeview awesome
Please do a vid with SavageGeese I love that guy! Between the both of your channels definitely some of the best videography and production.
+Phillip Foreman we are!
12:10 Why do not you arrange a match like in the Grand Tour?
DavidTVBox ! We don't have any money
TheStraightPipes
You're lying! All UA-camrs are secret millionaires. Everyone knows that. You can not fool us. 😀👍
+DavidTVBox ! I wish. You'll know when we're rich. Our daily cars will be lambos and Ferrari's
Gents, this video did help tip my hand in 2019. I bought a manual SEL in December at a huge discount. It’s been a flawless unicorn, tuned of course. Don’t think I’m not grateful to you!
I have the 6-speed manual version of the Alltrack and love it :)
+Jesse Silver awesome
I believe I saw this video more than #10 times as I am planning to buy a car and I test drove this car and is real fun to drive.
#Kudos to you guys, you make people life easier. Every details of your review about the car makes so sense.
Awesome thanks
I would sit in a baby sheep... if it was more comfortable.
LOL
My '12 TDI was ALWAYS in the wrong gear. Like 3 gears off... Now I shift my own gears, and I'm happy. And that road wasn't very slippery...if the road is coated with ice, then you have a slippery road.
Great review as always, any thoughts on VW reliability? I wish they still offered the diesels...
It's getting better than it was before. The 1.8t is pretty reliable as they have been making that engine for a while now as well. The DSG Transmissions have also been pretty solid since 2010-11 or so.
+FlyinGato it was reliable in the 2 weeks we had it...
VW have had average reliability for about a decade. Average on a modern car is much better reliability than 20 years ago. I’ve had a very solid experience in five years of ownership, would get another without question.
They are plenty reliable now. The 1.8t does excellent.
My 2010 GTI, 2014 Tiguan and 2013 TDI have all done over 130k without repairs. My 2016 GTI has 40k on it without issue. Even my old 92 Audi s4 had 300k on it with all factory parts still minus consumable parts.
@TheStraightPipes - 4:42, omg thanks! I just bought one and I had no idea how to do just that! 😄👌
