Totally agree! I still feel its one of the greatest rally games of all time. My only real beef with it was it was too hard for me. I never completed it.

dirt rally is reallly a rally game after having any real rally games in recent years but the problem with the dirt rally, with keyboard it is impossible to play,!!! very hard
It's not meant for keyboard though, you need at least a controller.
You just need time and get used to it. I'm quite fine with keyboard and can't stand playing with XBOX 360 controller.
I played the early access with only a 360 controller, then got a Logitech G29 wheel and pedals and I would never be able to play another sim racing game with a controller ever again. Such a huge difference.

Otherwise, the BEST is Richard Burns Rally! Olda game old graphics, but so many and many tracks and driving tutorial on tarmac dirt and all of surface with all of tyre. Dirt rally need more tracks, and a pitbox before the race......and a 22B impreza with 555 vinyl!!! :)

CMR2 is my favorite arcade game ever and CMR4 was also a masterpiece.
I love the sound of CM2 too its full of bangs from the exhaust, love it.
Dirt Rally is a total different game, more simulator and my favorite rally simulating game ever made, it also has the most realistic sounds I ever heard from any racing game.
Other sims will probably take years and years to sound as good as Dirt Rally.
ps: Polypony Digital should ban their sound team and contract right away Codemasters sound department to make a propper sound.

I don't know why in games starting from Dirt 2006, the turbo sounds the same on every car from the cockpit.. even here
Can't say for sure but maybe modern games they use actual record sounds from cockpit, and since the engine is stock it stays that way.

Wrong. Take a look at the HUD. PS1 CMR 2.0 hasn't got such a clear font. Don't get me started on the jagged models and blurry liveries on the PS1 port.

My biggest problem with both these games and many other racing games is the limited movement of the steering wheel when viewing from the inside. How hard can it be to make a realistic animation while turning a wheel? You have that in Live for Speed, and that game is both ancient and developed by a tiny tiny team (also an excellent game)
the worst thing that a modern time game can have, is a onboard view with limited steering action!

Lauri Kotila I can't see how it would make it less realistic. Rally driving in real life is, I'm sure you know, full of very vigorous wheel turning. Have the driver mimic the movements you do with your steering wheel, Best thing possible. Also realistic steering gives me very good visual feedback of how much lock I'm at, at a glance.
Can't wait for the console release, there hasn't been a decent rally game since RBR am stuck playing WRC5 😢

the graphics I can take but the SOUNDS... god thats irritating!!!! Its like they had one engine sound... 'rev.mp3' and just play it on loop!
Nice example of how games (and graphics) have progressed. Man, we are being spoiled these days. And to think people still complain about the littlest things in games. How can you complain if you see where we have come from.
It's 2016 and we still don't have a rally game with :
Deformable terrain
Realistic debris
Helpful spectators
Proper steering wheel animation
Wildlife obstruction
Proper vehicle damage
Proper ragdoll physics in cockpit
Proper engine, gearbox, differential, brakes, suspension, air conditioning and environment sound
Proper tire physics
Like really people. You can't just increase the polygon count and texture res and call it a day!

I hate to bitch and moan it's just that we have cpus with crazy core counts and multi threaded. We have gpus with thousands of dedicated vector processing. And we have monitors that are so insanely detail yet no game company is stepping up to the challenge. They use to say they couldn't make the world they wanted cause the technology wasn't there. Well now it's here and all they got are a bunch of excuses. We bought the dream but they sold a lie 😣

I have played both. CMR2 still high on the list of most entertaining games. Dirt is just too narrow most of the time and there is no difficulty ramp. You are just thrown in at the deep end. Yes it is very satisfying to do a hairpin sliding the whole way in dirt, but that is just so rare. Most of the time it is part throttle, brake, be careful of little bump on the side, no run-off, no safety and impossible to beat ai. CMR2 had the easy wide stages and as you got better, you got more tight courses. I believe, gameplay of CMR2, whilst not being very realistic, is just more fun. Dirt needs more open dirt tracks where you can slide the car into a corner. Then, you may not be doing it the fastest way possible, but at least you aren't thrown off down the side of a cliff having to start again.
I total agree thats why im gone hunt for CMR1and2 if i can find a copy anywhere for PS1

You do have to remember that Colin McRae 2.0 came out over 16 years ago. So it would have aged quite a bit. It was a great game back in the day though.

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is deffiently one of the rally games I ever played.
It's still better than any Mobile Rally game, and it will always stay like that. Mobile games have no feel to them,and most of them are pay2win or just suck. They released Colin McRae Rally, but the game is just not good at all, it has 4 cars and like 10 tracks. If they released a remaster of this, I would deffinetly buy it!
Next, the graphics;
I, personally din't really care about graphics. Yes, I don't like games in which the graphics are that bad it isn't actually playable, but there are basicaly none of those. All I care about is gameplay. This game has such good gameplay and replay ability.
Of course, DiRT Rally and DiRT 4 both have better graphics, but gameplay wise, I'd say they're at the same level. I like all 3 games.
This game kicks ass, even today.
CMR2 will always have a place in my heart and hard drive as it was my first rally game... it was fast, aggressive and the noises in the cabin while in cockpit view really sounded amazing... heck, you can even hear like the rocks hitting the bottom of the car...
I haven't yet played Dirt rally... but I liked Dirt and Dirt 2 very much... so Im pretty shure I will like DirT rally...

Dirt would be great game, but I can't run it on my old PC. From other games my favourite is CMR2005. A lot of cars, career, arcade, championship. Loved it. Also CMR3 is great because it was one of my first rally games together with Rally Championship Extreme. Oh, these memories :3
CMR2 looks more fun. The car goes into a slide easily and simul Oates the bodyroll much better than dirt. Dirt's car movement look like the suspensions are made of cement and seems like you have to take a corner by dividing it into straight lines, whereas with CMR2, you turn the steering, the car rolls, it goes into a rear wheel drift and you adjust the angle by steering. Of course, I'm talking about the external view, the internal view on CMR2 seems to loose all the good attributes mentioned above.
cmr 2.0 and 2005 are still in my pc. and cmr 2.0 got better patch in 2015. try it.

The cockpit view on Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is kind of cheesy but the behind-the-car view holds up amazingly well for an original Playstation racing game.
CMR 2 was a really Rally racing game, better than DIRT. Dirt has better graphucs and physics but the feeling of rally championship in CMR 2.0 much better.
