    I knew this man when I was a little boy in Maryland Point, Stratford, in the 1970’s. We lived on the same street, Buckingham Road. My Dad was a Jamaican ex-British army soldier who fought in Borneo and he was a dangerous man. No surprises, Uncle Albert and him became firm friends. Mr Reading was a very unusual white man: anti-racist and a keen sense of justice. He taught me to box and look after myself, “Boy, don’t let anyone take liberties with you because your black lad”. My brothers and I loved this man. His wife was a lovely, caring person and beautiful as an extra.
    I used to try and go jogging with him around Stratford and Forest Gate, which when I was seen dragging myself around after him, increased my stock massively in my school, Rokeby.
    What I keenly recall is the men he moved with: proper scary characters who hardly spoke. Needlessly to say some business between him and my Dad made us quite well off for several unspoken reasons. Whats often missing from biographies of real chaps is how compassionate and kind some of these men were. They were not thugs but clever, deeply reflective men, who did what they did out of necessity. Thank you for this thoughtful and considered mini documentary. At least you put things in the right context. RIP Uncle El.

    • @tirednsleepy44
      @tirednsleepy44 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Timsmith13911 yeah, I could believe it was him. He’s not a “known grass” but if you have a look what made him turn (Terry Gooderham and Maxine Arnold contract killing) it was about old fashioned values being thrown out the window and a liberty being taken when that line got crossed. If you go to Michael Gillard Substack “The Upsetter” there are details on there. Also if you ever read any of his books you’ll find them meticulously researched with relevant references to news articles/publications/documents and in particular has been at the forefront of bringing the case to light. So do I think it’s credible? Absolutely I do. And it doesn’t stop him being “one of the chaps”. The second someone casually blows away an innocent woman you cease to be an old fashioned villain, you become a woman murdering scumbag. Can you imagine “one of the chaps” being ok with that if they’re from the era of just poking the authorities in the eye.

    • @TirkeyBeef
      @TirkeyBeef Рік тому +1

      This is from his website today- Following the death of Albert Reading on 5th June 2023, I posted references to the Murders of Nick Whiting and Gooderham and Arnold. (See attached).
      It was not right at that time to detail the significance. Now may be appropriate.
      Albert Reading was a top level and high grade police informant whose pseudonym was David Hampshire.
      He gave the Met police significant information and intelligence over a sustained period.
      That included information given shortly after the kidnapping of Nick Whiting and his subsequent Murder. He named those who had kidnapped Whiting and specific details about the motive, his torture and killing.
      His police handler passed that information at the time onto Essex police, believing that Rainham Marsh (the site of the Murder), was on Essex ground.
      Essex police never passed the information on. The Kent Murder Squad were never aware of this information, and still do not know to this day as they have ignored all attempts to pass it on.
      Essex police and Kent police share the same Murder teams and the head of their ‘cold case’ review teams was a senior Essex officer directly involved in the Rettendon Murder enquiry and linked corruption investigation (Operation Apache).
      The story of the Murders of Gooderham and Arnold is another ‘can of worms’ which is also soon to emerge.
