    Putting things in perspective of age, Paulina, the drummer and singer here, started writing music for the album Queen Of The Murder Scene, which this song, Dust To Dust is on, in her years in middle school, which when it was actually released, she was 16 years old. Which makes her older sister, Daniela 18, and her younger sister, Alejandra 13. So, this is the level they were at in those years. That in itself is pretty impressive.

      Yeah, it take a the wind out of the sails of the complaint i’ve read elsewhere that “these lyrics sound like an angsty middle-school girl’s diary.” Of course they do, but, dang, those hooks and beats! Turn it up!

      @@jrrarglblarg9241 Yep. It _was_ "an angsty middle-school girl" who crafted the whole thing. Well, _girls_ , plural. Pau's ideas fleshed out with her sisters... but still incredible work for a bunch of kids. There was a photo of Pau's notebook floating around a few years ago, that apparently dated to when she was 12, where she jotted down "Red Hands Never Fade" as an idea for a song and this seems to be the beginning seed of the whole concept album. From a _twelve year old_ . Think about that for a moment...

      @@MrJest2 Their youth plus the potential lifespan of a professional rock act as demonstrated by recent tours of new material by Metallica, Scorpions, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard is one of my favorite things about them. They’ll still be rocking when I’m a hundred and seven.
      My other fave thing about The Warning is all the kids inspired by them. YT offers me a lot of small-subscriber musicians and a surprising number of 9 to 14 year old girls are doing Warning covers in basement and garage studios, and starting to write their own songs. 😃👍 Rock will outlive me!

    This is where I disagree with a lot of musician that react on UA-cam, being technically knowledgeable they tend to put the emphasis more on how complex the playing is, but to me after 40 years of listening of all kinds of music styles, I have come to the conclusion that more often than not, less is more, complexity for its own sake is should not be a goal, if it does not add to the song, it is not necessary, for the dynamics, the intent, the subtle bends and slides, this adds way more to the performance.

    The main thing that makes TW so popular and is propelling them to superstardom is that, not only are they good at what they do, THEY ARE ENTERTAINING. Three beautiful girls, easy on the eyes, but they never ever sell themselves as sex objects, playing as they always do in clothes they could wear to the mall.

    I think it’s important to note that he said all kinds of very nice things. Those of you who tend to expect everyone to immediately start gushing with overwhelming praise should take a deep breath and accept the positive rather than dwell on anything that you perceive as mildly negative.
    Also? Simple isn’t necessarily bad. AC/DC is very simple…but they play that simple music brilliantly, and they reach people. Just as TW does.

    For the people in the comments section ripping on Albert's reaction of The Warning's song "Dust to Dust" performed live, thinking he didn't like the band or was being negative, take the blooming cotton out of your ear holes. He said the band was great. He said Paulina was great. He loved the performance. He just didn't care for the song itself. If you asked 1000 fans to name their top 5 The Warning songs and top 5 least favorite The Warning songs, not all 1000 of the Warning Army would agree.

    • @andgar923
      @andgar923 Рік тому +2

      Most people mainly took issue with him dismissing the song as simple and cliche, not the fact he didn’t like it.
      It’s one thing to state it wasn’t to his taste, but to say it was simple and cliche is a bit much. Specially from one artist to another.

    • @bobmiller6870
      @bobmiller6870 Рік тому +1

      @@andgar923 I get that, but fans have to realize that how they react to music is different to seasoned musicians and people in the music industry in general. When it comes to music, painting, film, photography... art in general..., one's peers are often the most harshest of critics, whether that criticism is fair or not. If a person likes a song regardless of how simple or complex it is from a music theory perspective, then it really shouldn't matter whether or not someone else agrees with them or not. I get that we all want people to like what we like, but while one can find like minded person's, not everbody is going to agree or like the same thing. That is part of the reason there are so many types, so many genres of music. When it comes to Albert's comments about "Dust to Dust," I don't know him personally, only through his music with Blue Oyster Cult from the 70s and early 80s; so, I have no idea what he meant by "simple and cliche" after praising The Warning's performance and especially gushing over Paulina. We'll just have to agree to disagree that his comment was a "bit much."

    • @andgar923
      @andgar923 Рік тому +2

      @@bobmiller6870 I agree artists view work differently. But artists are generally more respectful towards each other even if they're correct. It's professional etiquette and respect.
      Yeah he liked Pau, but at the same time dismissed the song ignoring that they too have "simple and cliche" tracks.
      I went through some of their catalog after watching this. And yes they were good, but he wasn't as good as Pau, the bassist wasn't as good as Ale, the guitarist shredded more but none could sing as well as any of the 3. Their lyrics were dull and uninspiring for the vast majority of the time.
      While perhaps not simple, they too were filled with cliches and followed contemporary standards of the era.
      I still like them, hell... I actually like them even more going back and revisiting more of their work. But his comment was classless regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees with his comment.

I mean The Reaper is the most famous of their songs (and a truly fantastic song) and honestly not so much more elaborated that many of TW songs. I would put TW song writing skills and production level on the same level as BÖC's. Maybe from a musician perspective BÖC are/were slight more advanced. But he liked the group so we take that

I was amazed by them when they did it as kids. I wouldn't say hearing Dust to Dust hooked me at first either. It was ok but I really liked Pau. She was fierce and she stuck with me. This time I listened closer and noticed "the guitar player" looked really fkn familiar there. It was the Lunario version. Then it dawned on me I had seen them before somewhere. I started looking up their songs and fell down the rabbit hole. Dust to Dust is my favorite song. I still love Pau and her fierceness. I love Dani and Ale too but Pau is what hooked me. The song "dust to dust" is the prelude to one of the greatest concept album ever written ! The really doesn't make sence by itself so you pretty much need to listen to the album and the songs in order as the music and lyrics tell a story..the last song on the album
    "The end" not only completes the story but actually you understand why the album starts with dust to dust and brings the story full circle.
    The song by itself is just avg. The concept of the album and the story it tells is what make thus sing brilliant and great , same with other songs off the queen of the murder scene album. They are good songs by themselves but the lyrics don't make sense unless you apply them to the story being told in the album

    Albert was 20 when he joined his first band (soft white underbelly) which morfed into BOC . . . . At that age the girls had already put out an EP and a cpl of albums . . . Shame he wasnt told that it was part of the concept album QMS that Pau wrote at an early age (15)ish ?? . And that they were sisters . . Glad he liked the band . . .

      @awadoma2702 Рік тому +1

      @@rogerreed905 I mean if you did not know that CQ was 100% done by Dany alone then i'm not sure you are an authority on their creative process.
      Yes Pau tends to have the most ideas that end up being completed songs that get recorded, but they all have ideas that become completed songs.
      The state of the song that Pau presents or any of them present to the rest of the band is not always the same, sometimes it's just an idea, sometimes there are some lyrics, sometimes it's a melody, sometimes a bit of all.
      The thing that is important to understand is when the 3 start working on it together the song takes on a new life and some or most of what Pau presented might get changed. Pau has stated that at first she had a hard time dealing with the fact that Dany and Ale wanted to change what she presented to them. In time she came to realize that once the 3 started working on it it became their song and no longer just hers and that the songs would have been different or never completed without the help of her sisters.
      Just to name a few songs from QOTMS that were not started by Pau. Ale started Dust to Dust, Dany started Qotms, Dany wrote QC alone, Ugh/the sacrifice/the one all came from elements not used on Ugh, a song they had a hard time working on and completing together. there are others in the album but those are the few that come to mind without more research. The idea for the album might of come from Pau but the finished product is a result of the 3 of them together.
      So when you say "Ale and Dany didnt have much to do with the writing of the album" and you also say"Im going by what i hear them say" they have never stated that Ale and Dany didn't do much, they actually say the opposite of that. You are basically stating what you think and not what they have told us.
      It's par for the coarse that Pau fans or fans that just don't know any better are always trying to give Pau full credit for the creative process and totally dismissing Ale and Dany's contribution. that is opposite of what the band has always said.

    The comments are going wild :) I'm personally with Albert here and if people want to misunderstand him that's fine I guess. The song is neither lyrically nor musically very complex but that doesn't mean that the playing is bad or that it isn't an extremely unique effort for how old they were when they wrote the piece!
    It also doesn't mean that the song is bad - even when you look at classical masterpieces it's often the simple music that sticks with people the longest, the same goes for a lot of early rock/metal. So it's just a matter of taste and affection.

    • @concept226
      @concept226 Рік тому +2

      Plus I'm pretty sure this was shown to Albert straight after a Nightwish live performance, so they are kind of at opposite ends of the scale. I like Nightwish but i don't listen to their stuff very often in my daily life, but The Warning I can sit and listen a whole album with no problem. I also decided to go see the warning live when they were in the UK, but didn't feel the need to go see Nightwish when they were here (not that I wouldn't, I just was compelled to go watch the warning). Its all about personal taste. I mean Bob Dylan and Johnny cash weren't exactly known for their technical prowess and they sold a few records between them.

      Yes. Context is everything, the man doesn't know how young the band was when they composed this. I enjoy the song but I suspect they will do more complex, ambitious material in the future simply because you live and learn, and you grow in musicianship and creativity with life experiences. It's very cool that he thinks the band is great!

    Well, that’s an “old” song from The Warning (for a band their age 5 years ago is a lot), and they most have been around 13 (Ale, the bassist), 15 (Pau, the drummer) and 18 (Dany, the guitarist), and of course it’s not that complex, specially next to the music they’re doing now, when they are now all of them not children any more. Still very young but already adults, and yes, of course they’ve evolved from the times they wrote this song and were still not very popular, still a totally independent band to nowadays they’re a band signed by a big label, with much more experience, opening concerts for big rock bands (Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Muse), going on tour next to bands like Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless and Three Days Grace, and yes, already going on tour not just to North and South America, but also to Europe (pulled by Muse to open more shows, not just those at Mexico, then having their own shows at several countries of the old continent); they’re a very young (because of their age, although they have been playing for ten years), so yes, of course they’ve evolved but they’ll evolve much more in the future.
