YES!!! You made my day once again with some GM! ❤ My favorite male singer & songwriter of all time! 🙌 A fabulous track from an absolutely beautiful album ("Older" is his own personal favorite album, according to interviews he had given shortly before he passed.)
I chuckled when you mentioned the bathroom scandal. 😂 Though this album was written & released several years beforehand - shortly after the love of his life passed away all while he was still in the closet with the media. "Fastlove" was George's message to us that he was not yet ready to emotionally invest in a new relationship.
My personal favorite GM album is "Listen Without Prejudice." That album makes my heart ache. I could go on and on about George, so I'll stop now lol! But if you ever want to go on a George Michael journey, I will be with you for sure!
Have a great weekend and God Bless 😊

Fun fact, Jon Douglas, work with George in this song, talk about working with George in this song and the making of this song in a interview in the last days. Jon Douglas work in his own album and was at the same studio has George during this period. One day, he meets George while he was running for the sessions and asked George to sing ''I'm Your Man'' (Wham song) with him, because he was a fan of this song. George did with Jon and to think that, George asked Jon to work in the ''Older'' album. The original concept of ''Fastlove'' was totally different to the final product. This song was originally a bossa Nova and latino song, it's was more at the level of ''Jesus to a Child'', ''The Strangest Thing'' and ''To Be Forgiven'', but it's already have this catchy feel to everybody know. But during the making of this song, finally, George changed his idea and wanted to have a more up-beat vibe to celebrate his life has a boyfriend with Anselmo. So George changed the composition and asked Jon to work to help him to make this song a up-beat track. Jon work the bass and he adding electronic touch at the end of this song. The sax of the final product was in fact the sax used from the original concept. When George changed his composition and making the song a RnB track, he wanted to used the sax recording from the original concept, it's was the only thing used from the original concept to the final product. After that, he enters in George life and work with George for the song ''Outside'' and many songs of ''Patience'' album

I'm glad you're digging this song. It's got such a great groove. It is about quickies but it's got more depth to it. George Michael lost his partner to AIDS before writing that album, and there's this one line in the bridge that says "I miss my baby"... To me that says why "fast love" is "all that he's got on his mind". While there's nothing wrong with quickies as such, this song is also about heartbreak. I think that depth, while maybe not obvious at first, is reflected in the bluesy saxophone and in his singing. A few years later he would write a song about the same guy that says "please send me someone to love as much as I loved you".

❤️💔 Ah Gorgeous George (as the UK press called him a little derisively in the 80s). This song is so sexy and smooth, but George was an intelligent songwriter, and there were usually more layers than meet the eye (ear?). This song is from the album he released after having lost his lover to AIDS in the early 90s. The “looking for some affirmation” is about trying to get out there again and have some vivacious experiences to distract from his loss and the oppressive connection between sex and death that was in the minds of most people because of the pandemic, but particularly heavy in the psyches of gay men. The line in the bridge “I miss my baby” is about his loss. On the album the song acts as a counterpoint to the gorgeous ballad Jesus To A Child, which is about his lover’s last days and the tragedy of finally finding someone precious and losing them to the disease... If you want a brilliant sexy pop song from George that’s directly about the scandal (which was years after this) of his “public indecency” arrest, go no further than 🎶Outside🎶. The video to that is also incredible and a very sassy response to the scandal.

Because it's was released in LP in US (the original album and in box included wit many CD of remixes and the book of the making of the album) in the last days and it's give a another time to rediscover this iconic album (his last successful album in US, one million sold since his released, depist it's not the level of ''Faith''). Also, in the official George Michael channel, the making of the video of ''Fastlove'' was now online. You look the first time George dancing in the shower in the making crazy how it's difficult to dancing in the shower for him. The whole Older album was written after George lost the love of his life, Anselmo. After Anselmo died George really struggled and didn't write any music for nearly 5 years. A couple of the songs on Older are about Anselmo like You Have Been Loved, and particularly Jesus to a Child which is set to a Bossa Nova beat specifically because the Bossa Nova is traditionally a Brazilian rhythm and Anselmo was Brazilian. After George died it was discovered he donated all of the Royalties from Jesus to a Child to a children's charity.

@@tomrobinsondc I just read an interview he did with a radio station in 2014. They asked about his favorite singers. George's were Terrance Trent Darby, Aretha, Mary J. Blige, Amy Whinehouse and Lauyren HIll. He wanted to collaborate with Laureyn Hill, but she had just had a baby. I 'll never forget when he left the USA after receiving all the awards (grammys and AMA) for Faith. because African Americans were not happy that a "white boy" won for soul awards, He was up against Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown. I don't think he ever got over that. He said it hurt him really bad, that America is so white/black.

Ha, I love how this song sort of tripped you up right out of the gate, glad I threw it out there for you. IMO, George had one of the most underrated voices ever. I truly miss his music so I dive around in his catalog a lot just to keep things going. Now on the other side of the coin, you need to check out another similar hit, called "Sunrise" by Simply Red. A great song that I think is truly under-rated IMO. Out of curiosity, have you checked out any Linda Ronstadt songs?

In the Freedom documentary of 2017, who this autobiogrsphy documentary was turned in 2016 before his death, he talked about this song. This song was written has a perspective to profites the life after the lost of his lover and was very personal. This song, like the rest of the album was about his boyfriend, died of AIDS in 1993. George said in interview to written the album ''Older'' was a therapy for him to faced with the death of Anselmo Feleppa, his boyfriend. He wanted a up-beat vibe to this song to celebrate his life has a lover with Anselmo. This is the reason why this song was one of the rare up-beat RnB of the album. ''Older'' was his most personal album for him and very sad. I buying today the album in occasion in 3$, and this album was a piece of art. Only three RnB up-beat in the album (''Fastlove'', ''Speening The Wheel'' and ''Star People'') the rest was very jazzy and bossa nova music and i understand more the reason ''Jesus to a Child'' was choose has the first single of the album. It's a weird single to released he era, but it's was a perfect song to represent the moody and the sadness of the album. Also, the music video of ''FastLove'' was iconic and was futurist. The video was ahead of his time (came out in 1996) and the prelude of the videos of the end of 90's like ''No Strubs'' by TLC and ''He wasn't Man Enough'' by Toni Braxton.

I don't know why but this was George's last Billboard Hot 100 entry; peaking at #8 in 1996. It's almost like the powers that be wanted him gone from the American music scene. I'm not even sure subsequent singles from this album were released in the states. I never heard them on the radio or saw the music videos on any of the video channels or shows at the time. Even more odd, Top 40 radio, after the song was out for a bit, began only playing it from the bridge onward; cutting the first 3 minutes or so of the song. We, in America, didn't hear a peep from George until the bathroom scandal which was a big deal with the media. In today's day and age, the publicity probably would've help his career but that was not the case then. His mainstream pop career, stateside, was over.

OH WOW! thanx for this info. I read Mariah's book and she briefly mentioned how him and her first ex hubby were beefing. So maybe Tommy is responsible for this phase out and crazy how radio cut the song about 75%!

''Spinning the Wheel'' and ''Star People'' was released in US, but wasn't huge hit. ''Star People'' was a hit in the club (n.1 in the dance clubs) but not charted in US. ''Fastlove'' received a lot of airplay in radios and MTV when it came out and was his last huge hit in US.
