Diesel and Single-Deck Demise: VWL317 on Limerick City Route 306 on Sunday, 21st April 2024.

- Sunday, 21st April 2024 saw the first appearance of the electric EWD class on Limerick City Services albeit only for an early-morning lap on Route 304.
Over the past nine weeks, more and more EWD class buses have been deployed from Roxboro Depot although on any one day, they haven't formed more than 40% of the turnout.
I have been saying it for weeks but the bell is tolling now for diesel buses in the city, including the two remaining single-deck buses, VWL316 and VWL317.
This is yet another clip of Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban VWL317 (12-D-8578) on Route 306 northbound between Henry Street and Shelbourne Road on the first really sunny morning in weeks.

I noticed when the 2012 VWLs were new they had the same seats as the SLs albeit without the Scania logo

@liamoconnor2718 EWD173 and EWD178 were the two new EWDs on the 304A today.
EWD117 also entered service on the 302 but is not tracking.
I'm not sure what the non-tracker on the 303 is yet.
Curiously, PAD128 was on the 206 down in Cork this morning and on the 304 this afternoon. What's going on there?

The vwds should have also left ages ago
God knows when they will leave at this stage. EWD179 was on the 06:30 304 ex Raheen and 07:40 return ex UL, going out of service at 08:30.
EWD118 was parked for ages in Sarsfield Street this morning but doesn't appear to have been in service.
So that was the extent of EWD operation today. I had high hopes for more.
As you implied before, VWL325 seems to be history now.
