- Photographs of a mysterious red brick mansion in the Pikes Peak Library District archives intrigue Katie and Sandy to investigate the Manitou Springs, Colorado, home know as Redstone Castle. They learn that stage actress Alice Crawford Snow resided in the "haunted house" during the early 1900s, and that she was the sister of Emma Crawford who is said to have been buried on Red Mountain, which overlooks Manitou Springs.
This is such fun! Thank you Sandy, Jody, Katie and of course Alice and Emma! Happy Halloween everybody
We need a permanent memorial for Emma Crawford in Manitou Springs, she was a proper young woman from Massachusetts who came here with her mother and sister to treat her tuberculosis, she taught piano while living in Manitou and succumbed to her illness after climbing red mountain and finding a place where if she died she would like to be buried up on the mountain, her fiancé honored her request and buried her near the top. Her casket came crashing down after heavy rainstorms years later and a skull and handles from her coffin where found by two boys playing. This is where the idea for the Coffin Races came about. She is now properly buried at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou but there is no memorial in town, working on this idea , area near clock in town would be nice. Also this might be a good year to do a memorial since they’ve had to cancel the Coffin Races once again due to COVID-19 , seems like a good time to honor the real Emma Crawford. This would be a nice addition to such an historical town like Manitou Springs.
What a wonderful idea! My house was built in 1894 and I'm so curious about the history of the neighborhood. Emma seems like such an interesting person and her sister's tragic life deserves a look. With Halloween coming up and Dia de Los Muertos, the thought of Emma haunting Red Mountain is so romantic!
I've been in the library archives once. Don't recall why or when it even where in town it's located. 😵💫
Fascinating. I enjoyed watching this.
my grandmother used to work in the real estate field she sold a home in Manitou springs that Emma Crawford used to haunt I know about red stone castle it's also said Emma was buried up on the mountain till the rain, flood she was buried in the "bot cemetary" before she was known to have haunted crystal hills cemetary PS it was a thunderstorm that caused her to be washed down from red mountain which is how the home became "red stone castle".
Fascinating!
Is that Miramont Castle, because if you look up redstone castle in Manitou you get absolutely nothing
C'mon PPLDTV, put closed captions on your videos. You're a library, you should know many people need captions, especially when your actors mumble like the news woman in the story.
Sandy!!!
Watch first five, last five and five minutes from 50:00 to 55:00. The rest? It’s just talking and talking and talking and.........
So why not research the axe murders?
