Russell, you can never reiterate something like this. There are so many things to remember when doing this to a car that any reminders are always welcome.
This should be easy since I don't have an inner door panel😅. (I never cared much about cosmetics forty years ago, just needed to go faster😂). She's plenty fast enough, now it's time to tighten her up a little. Thanks for the video😊 Looks good
Congrats on your new channel sponsor Russ. You look good in that Camaro Central hat. lol. Nick (rarerat) did a similar thing with his door and fender trim, deleting most of it and it looked awesome.
Russ. Did you ever make a video on installing fender flairs. Im doing a 77 trans. And mostt of what you do relates to the trans also. Keep up the good work. J white. Ct
Hey Russ, I just installed my new window felts and mine fit the same as yours do. The rear portion by the quarter panel looks squished. Did this ever resolve itself or did you have to do anything to fix it? It would also appear that my replacement glass might not be shaped properly, as the seal isn’t touching the glass in the center.. Thanks!
Haven't been over on my car channel much but glad I caught this video. I have been to car shows an have seen some pretty bad examples of door weatherstrip. I have the separate door trim so won't have to deal with the version you showed, but my concern is at the rear of the door where they bend up. For the cowl hood trim I must have seen it elsewhere, but what I did was buy a bent one from a junk yard an cut it up to use the two sides where it stays flat. When I get the nerve I was gonna metal work the cut edge to round it off some.
Good to see you Scott. I was on your channel the other day looking at some older vids. If I go with the z21, I was thinking about trying that with the hood chrome. On the wide bead version, are you talking about the way the rubber is laying against the door, or the chrome being slightly raised? I was wondering how an nos one would look. Its something I was going to look in the Spring at some shows.
Well, it seems there are some that don't have enough curve at the rear and the sweep will wrinkle. Your example looks good at the sweep although the glass wasn't fitted yet. It did look like you had an issue with the arch that was either to much or not enough bend. That will probably suck to try an get that to sit flush. I know there are gonna be some different brands so when I see which one is right I'll jump on them.
These are MCI brand. The gm ones are popping up on ebay from time to time, but they are usually wrapped up in the plastic and its tough to see what you are buying.
Hi Russ. I don't have the Z21 trim on either of my Camaros, but it does look good mainly on darker color cars. Your car will look good with or without the extra chrome. Looking forward to the next video.
William, Thank you for the offer. This is just a hobby for me. Here the last couple years my day job has kept me so busy that I haven't had time to work on my own projects.
Well there is two options for the later second gens. There is one called a wide chrome bead and one called a thin chrome bead. Either one will work, its just a matter of preference for the look your going after.
Double R Restorations thank you, got the thin bead. My driver window wobble back and forth do you have a video on how to adjust/tighten it. Or does it tighten once I put the window felts in
hay russ perfection takes time so don't worry about the late start of the year. I have not touched my car in a year just to much stuff but the shop is almost done will take a video next week of the progress its looking a bit different and good
Thanks Chris. Looking forward to the shop update. When I was building mine, I wondered if I would ever finish it, but it did get finish. Now I'm wondering about the car. lol.
Great to see you and glad to hear that you're feeling better. It's a coin toss on the chrome decision...🤔🙄😉 Our 70 had the Z-21 option, so I know that we'll stick with that. Bob
I just replaced my window felts too and my window has a much more significant gap between the window and the window felt I have no idea how to adjust it if anybody has any info on how to adjust it it would be appreciated
There should be some adjustment screws at the top of the door that will allow some adjustment of the window. There is usually some witness marks on the sheet metal of the door where they were set by the factory. After adjustments, just carefully close the door to see how the window mates up to the surrounding weather stripping.
I can't remember if you said you were going to complete the chrome on the hood, but i liked the one on the passenger side, I think it complete's the look. Keep plugging away man.
Thanks. I'm planning on using a cowl hood, so if I go with the z21 (passenger side) I will have to customize the hood chrome. It would look cool though. Still thinking about it.
I think I like the Z21 chrome better, but not sure how it will loom with the hood on the car. Maybe the wide chrome is the way to go when going with a cowl hood. This way the chrome ends behind the mirrors. Looking forward to the progress!
Actually, I was wrong, it ends at the A Pillar... You got me thinking about it because I'm going to need to make a decision soon. I using a cowl hood so I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the wide chrome felt. Yes, move to something else for a bit and we'll all think about for a bit
I know this is a fairly old video but I was wondering if you had any dealings with the felts on the door panel side of things? I was going to try and reuse my original door panels but the felts are shot which is obvious considering all the rust issues I've been dealing with. Thanks!
I know you can get them new. When I had my 81 door panels recovered, the upholstery shop installed them. I believe it was installed with rivets, but would have to double check. You should be able to replace them. Thanks.
I like your new pieces. I noticed writing on your roof sail panel. That isn't black marker is it? If you don't get it completely removed (which is difficult to do...permanent marker!) it will bleed through your primer and your paint eventually.
Well, that was the weird thing, they haven't really come on board yet. Maybe they are still thinking about it. lol. I never heard back from them, but it was some cool gifts they sent. Yes the Z21 trim has its own window felts that has no chrome.
Russell, you can never reiterate something like this. There are so many things to remember when doing this to a car that any reminders are always welcome.
Thanks Ray, the biggest thing about restoration work for home hobbyist where things are space out over time is good notes and lots of digital pics.
Hope you get to feeling better. Glad to hear from you!!
Thanks SprayWay, this stuff has been rough!
nice video i added this to watch later for when i get to this point on my own project
Cool, thanks
This should be easy since I don't have an inner door panel😅. (I never cared much about cosmetics forty years ago, just needed to go faster😂). She's plenty fast enough, now it's time to tighten her up a little. Thanks for the video😊
Looks good
Thanks, Sometimes the screws can be difficult to remove, not too bad of a job though.
The original molding goes from end to end on the door. This molding looks like it come up short ? Am I missing something ? Thanks !
I removed the z21 moulding and installed the standard molding on the car.
Great video thanks I always wondered how that was properly done as I have to replace the ones in my 75 hurst olds 😊
Glad it helped, Thanks for watching
Looking good keep them coming hope you get better
Thanks Pharraway, I thought I was getting better, but this weekend I have been running some high temps. Going to take it easy this week.
Those little extras really make it look sweet.
Thanks Terry. Looking forward to making some progress on the car soon. Trying to get rid of the flu. Ive been sick most of Jan.
Glad to see you working on the doors. I have to rebuild all of the guts in my doors to get rid of the glass rattle when I open and close the doors.
Now that's a job. I have done that for these two doors and I'm amazed at how many parts are inside.
I want a 71 as it was the year I was born and I think that would really be cool. I Hope you get to feeling better soon. Keep moving forward.
Thanks Stan. A 71 would be cool. I was born in 72.
Congrats on your new channel sponsor Russ. You look good in that Camaro Central hat. lol. Nick (rarerat) did a similar thing with his door and fender trim, deleting most of it and it looked awesome.
Thanks Wes, they haven't came on board yet. I'm hoping they will. They did send me some cool items though.
Russ. Did you ever make a video on installing fender flairs. Im doing a 77 trans. And mostt of what you do relates to the trans also. Keep up the good work. J white. Ct
James, I dont have a vid on the flares. Sorry.

I need to revisit this. I'm actually still in the process of putting the skins on.
Nice job Russ, wide chrome bead sounds great.
Thanks Lloyd. I like the look of it and it will solve some issues I'm having.
I like the window felts looks like they fit fit well.
Thanks Cliff. I think that they did fit really well.

Thanks Wiley. Its a tough decision.
I like the wide chrome. Looks like it fits well too. Keep the camera rolling.
Thanks Indy.
It's amazing you can still get the parts. I'm a fan of more Chrome the better.
Thats the good thing about the Camaro's and Mustang's. The parts are readily available. Thanks Steve
Your everywhere Steve!
wyattoneable Two steps ahead of ya buddy.
Man, good to see you back up with your quality videos! I like the Z21. I plan to do that on both of my cars, no cowl hood.
Thanks Jon, I'm glad to be back. The Z21 does look really good on our cars.
I think that's for me Russ. The wide bead. Good info Russ
Thanks Jeff. I like the look of it, plus it will be less headache than the other trim.
I have a 1981 Camaro Z28, where is ur shop?? I'm in Murrells Inlet, So Carolina. I'd like to have u do some work for me.
William, Thank you for the offer. This is just a hobby for me. Here the last couple years my day job has kept me so busy that I haven't had time to work on my own projects.
My 78 has those beads outside the door which one window felt do I get?
Well there is two options for the later second gens. There is one called a wide chrome bead and one called a thin chrome bead. Either one will work, its just a matter of preference for the look your going after.
Double R Restorations thank you, got the thin bead. My driver window wobble back and forth do you have a video on how to adjust/tighten it. Or does it tighten once I put the window felts in
Double R Restorations and how do you install the inner felt? Do they have screws, mine looks like they just staple it on the door card
hay russ perfection takes time so don't worry about the late start of the year. I have not touched my car in a year just to much stuff but the shop is almost done will take a video next week of the progress its looking a bit different and good

Nothing better than new rubber and chrome to put a tasteful finish to the door line.
Thats is very true. Thanks Zig.
I think I like the Z21 chrome better, but not sure how it will loom with the hood on the car. Maybe the wide chrome is the way to go when going with a cowl hood. This way the chrome ends behind the mirrors.
Looking forward to the progress!
Yea, its a tough decision. I've got some other things to do, so I'm going to think about it.

Yes, move to something else for a bit and we'll all think about for a bit
I LIKE THE LOOK OF THE NEW CROME
Thanks Drew. I do too, plus a little easier to install.
I know this is a fairly old video but I was wondering if you had any dealings with the felts on the door panel side of things? I was going to try and reuse my original door panels but the felts are shot which is obvious considering all the rust issues I've been dealing with. Thanks!

Thanks George, that is true on the marker. I'm replacing those panels, so its all good.
LOOKS GREAT
Thank you and I appreciate you guys watching!
i like the wide trim
Thanks man!
I like the new trim! Awful nice of them to send you that extra stuff!
It sure was. Thanks Jay.
The first guy to get a sponsorship! Haha. So, that other trim has no chrome on it?
Well, that was the weird thing, they haven't really come on board yet. Maybe they are still thinking about it. lol. I never heard back from them, but it was some cool gifts they sent. Yes the Z21 trim has its own window felts that has no chrome.
Move forward. It really is looking good though.
Thanks Wyatt!
Russ your in big trouble mr. Shame on you for messing up that old rubber trim
MrFireman164 I know right?
Double R Restorations 😊
