It's crazy to see how Gavin's channel has evolved and grown over the last decade. Very impressive and no doubt a ton of work goes into something like that.
I don’t know if you read these comments. I just wanted to say thanks for all your videos. They have helped me tremendously. I’m still new to reloading but every time I’m stuck I’ve been able to watch your videos to get my answers.
It comes with the larger of the two meters he showed. I believe Hornady labels it as "standard" but it looks like the rifle meter. It actually works well for all types of powders unless you need absolute precision. I was just loading some .38 spl & .45 Colt with Trail Boss the other night and it metered fine. The same goes for CFE 223 for my 308 for general shooting.
Gavin, I am curious of your experience between the Hornady powder measure which comes with and when used on the Hornady AP press versus the Dillon powder measure used on the Dillon 550b and Dillon 750 progressive presses? Is one better than the other?
is this the same powder measure as the one used on the AP press? Can you set it up on the classic press and drop there into a case? Seems this is a very nice measure.
Id like to know the same thing, this is exactly what I would like to do. I will be using the lee carbide case expander with powder drop through die, hope he answers.
+butopiatoo Yes, they are one and the same powder measure. The only difference on the progressive is the Case-Activated Powder Drop linkage and associated parts. I've used the manual type of powder measure as shown here on my LnL Classic press- not as convenient as using a stand-type or plate style of dispenser holder, but it works.
butopiatoo You can use the powder measure that’s included with the AP press as a stand-alone unit if you order the handle and screws into the side of the rotor and small and large drop tubes from Hornady.
@@kdiver58 I'm assuming you bought yours within the 5 year span of this comment. If so, I'm pretty sure i bought mine before that. Or maybe I'm just stupid and lost it, which is very possible. Lol
It's a powder trickler, you put powder into the top hopper, spin the opposite side of the "brass rod" which is hollow and threaded and small amounts of powder come out the brass tube. This is to take charges ran slightly under the charge weight you are trying to get to the precise charge weight a few granules as a time. I know this is an old reply but I figured others may benefit from the answer, you probably either figured it out by now or lost interest :-)
i have had some problems with this dispencer when i use big grained powder it binds up feels like the cilynder has to cut a grain f.eks with Vitavouri N150 Powder
magvat yeah mate i have the same problem with hogdon varget powder. It doesnt like pellet style powders. Ball powders work best in it. I just use the traditional measuring spoon for pellet powders.
The part that he was changing out screws in and out to adjust the amount of powder dispensed and has a lock nut on it to lock it in place once it’s set where you want it.
No, but I did work with Midsouth Shooters Supply to put together this kit for progressives that comes with everything: ultimatereloader.com/2016/06/24/exclusive-hornady-ap-powder-measure-kit-from-ultimate-reloader-and-midsouth-shooters-supply/

How do you know how much powder to use for one round? Are there settings on the powder measure that vary the amount of powder that comes out?
This needs to be revisited

You don't use the aluminum baffle that goes in the tube?
Thanks for showing the powder thrower mounting plate, I am new to this hobby, and hard a hard time seeing one mounted and used.
Gavin, can you use this measure on the progressive , by taking the handle off and affixing the upper part of the powder drop?
You tighten or loosen the metering insert to change the volume it allows to be dropped. Remember these measure in volume, not weight.

Where is your powder baffle? Is there a reason you are not using one?
thank you very much for the demo. those rotors you were talking about, what comes with it? The rifle, pistol, or both.
I just ordered one of these powder measuer too: )
When you get the powder measure with the kit, does it come with the meter to do pistol loads, or do you have to buy that separately?

how about a demo on the High Capacity Metering Kit?
Nice video, question:
The machine come with the rifle or the pistol setup? or both?
Thank you.
Can you adjust the amount of powder per motion to get it either a smaller amount or a bigger amount using the included adapter
Just set mine up. Cleaned it. Do I need to dry lube with anything.?
Do you not use the metal baffles? And when I raise my handle it locks why is mine locking
You didn't put the powder divider into the powder tube ?
They don't come with one. Gotta buy it separately. Maybe it's different now, but when i bought mine it did not.
@@JathTech It must be different .. I have 5 different types and all have the bent metal divider. ... Hmmmmm

What does that thing do that looks like a traffic cone with a brass rod through it?

@SuperSneakySteve It's a trickler for precise charging on a scale.

Do the metering inserts come with the kit?
Hey can we get an update on this video?
He says this is the same powder measure that comes in the LNL Classic. Does he mean the single stage or progressive classic?
Thank you for the information.
i NOTICE THAT YOU HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE BAFFLE. iS THERE A REASON WHY?
same reason you type in all caps.
no one knows.

Have you tried flake powder in it yet? Such as IMR-700X
thank you for your reply :D
How did you mount it?
Danke.
im new to reloading can you change the amount of powder dished out (im sure you can but how )??????
The part that he was changing out screws in and out to adjust the amount of powder dispensed and has a lock nut on it to lock it in place once it’s set where you want it.
Lots of questions but no answers. Also didn't show how repeatable it throws charges.
does it come with both rotors?
No, but I did work with Midsouth Shooters Supply to put together this kit for progressives that comes with everything: ultimatereloader.com/2016/06/24/exclusive-hornady-ap-powder-measure-kit-from-ultimate-reloader-and-midsouth-shooters-supply/
i don't trust that measure at all. a little too inaccurate, i need to trickle all my charges.
I find it accurate to .1 grains which is fine for my handgun loads but i set it low and trickle up for rifle loads
make sure you have the baffle installed. Mine is within .1 everytime.
With a scale.
