Correct, it is not moss, it’s just rough coat painted a dark green. The sculptor, Lizzie Willick, was creating a set of new building corners that would complement yet stand apart from Jason Buyaki’s original Gothic Ruins. The original designs had different window inserts to let people choose what would be in each window space. Other window inserts had vents and fans sculpted instead of window panes. It seems that GF9 elected to just glue in the standard window frame. Also, she was the original sculptor of the craters set, which is why the Industrial Gothic crater shares the same aesthetic.
I would still get some of this. Being completely new to this hobby I don't have any terrain except for the Warcry starter set that my stepson and I just started working on. Having it ready to go out of the box would be helpful for getting to start playing sooner.
Definitely some nice ruins. For the price, some details are a bit disappointing. But then again it’s also nice to to give them your own flavor. I’m curious to see how yours turn out. Thanks Naomi!
I had seen these online but never given them much thought because I do not currently play 40k. That may change since lately I have been interested in the 40k universe. For right out of the box I think they look great.
They are great pieces. I have a couple of corner ruin ? Cathedrals but they go in my display case. One each at the back corner. It gives me more display space for my miniatures.
I love the way all of their terrain looks that youve opened. They have great detail and look nice right out of the box. For the lazy hobbyist in me someday who doesn't want to work for my terrain 😂. I think those super tall pillars would work great as a crashed pillar to hide behind. Or maybe crossing them laying down so it kind of looks like a collaped building. The windows not meeting the edge would bother me though even in a damaged building. Id have to fill and paint it. Naomi breaking windows. Vandalism is a gateway crime 😉
Nice video as always Miss Naomi! I totally agree that the moss texture/look being totally solid on those areas is a major misstep because it just looks so unnatural/realistic. They should have it not be completely solid on those panels and having some of it extend to stone support pillars and stone arches above the windows would have fixed it easily. However for right out the box, it's fully usable and playable. With some DIY crafting and painting should fix the elements which you know are wrong with it. Because our minds know when something is wrong even if it mostly looks right.
For those tall towers, I might actually buy a large clear base from Litko or someplace like that and glue the tower to it for stability. The ladder to nowhere was odd, but not a deal breaker. The windows, however, didn’t look right. This building has seen enough damage and weather to topple stone, but the window frames are pristine? It just looked out of place to me. Taking the windows out was better, but a little too stark and consistent for me. I’d probably leave the frames in, but try to break a few pieces out of each one so it looked more randomly damaged.
They look good but I think the painting is a bit off in places. Like you said the moss is too uniform and stops too abruptly, and I don't understand why they painted parts of the stone buttresses in rust. I think they look better without the windows but it would be fun to try cutting or snapping clear plastic to make broken glass for the them.
I read that as stucco/pebbledash rather than moss,. Really nice to see what they look like though , been tempted by a few as quick scenery expansion , but they have so little information online
So the badly fitting windows might be fine for a bombed out building. I imagine the frames of the windows would shift anyway, making for a poor fit, but I think I would cut away some of the "bars" in the windows to show damage better. I am also rather fond of the pillars.
All the pieces, over all the corners look really good to me; the fact that you can remove the windows so easy it's a plus imo, and... that green "moss"?, i'll paint that in brown tones or in some kind of bone white, like the typical houses from the S of Spain, i don't know how to say it in english, i think they're made out of 'adobe' (a mix of mud with straw usually, some times a bit of sand it's used on the mix too). What would be more problematic would be to do hatch on the large corner without the propper tools, with the right tools...?, i shouldn't be that of a problem. Take care and stay well
I think that texture is like a stucco and not moss, they have it on a bunch of masonry homes down here in Florida. :) Might be cool to paint a bright color, give the bombed out building a little flair and a little moss could be added here and there.
Would you happen to have info you could share about those glass cabinets that were behind you during the intro? I've been interested in better display options other than my black bookshelf where you can't see anything other than dust. Have a Happy Canada Day!
Next time you can just throw the terrain piece in the freezer. The ice cold will make the super glue even more brittle and it will make it much easier to remove things like that with a much smaller risk of breaking the piece.
The benefit of basically everything GF9 does, be it for the Grimdark Sci Fi games or 15mm historical is that you can buy them and just drop them on the table same day. I've taken my 15mm buildings and done some minor detailing to make them look different from other players and my dad has actually based his church terrain. That said the 28mm ruins could stand for some weathering and detailing. I was impressed at the one corner piece having a ladder to somewhere, only for the next piece to not. It's as though they changed their minds half way through the design process. Not cool. Adding a hatch to the one is definitely going to add some realism to the piece. Also figure out how to add some broken glass to the window panes could go a long way as well. Great review as always.
That pillar box is insane I can't use the corners cause i use a different color palette than what most use or is shown even if the pillars tip over they look durable, like atrap to drop on underneath units but not to interested in that use for pillars. They look durable or you could just get them bases or build a base for them. Wait maybe the color on the corner is alright I thought it was green and it is there's moss so still maybe not to into the corners they're nice hefty corners though
Well, I'm doin a warhammer table carved in the wood with chiesel, hammer and a true water river because I'm not normal😅.. And scenary is realy what I need. I'm not a fan of resin and plastic stuff but they seem to be waterproof for my river/lake parts(I bought some aquarium staff till now, a big skull and a pseudomountain where the river will start to flow).. do you think they resist water? If u answer you are afrodite if not Pandora(joke🤣) this Chanel is great, u too.. I will check this gary9, ty for the perfect timing of this video✌🤘
I was thinking back to a few previous videos you did one where you read about a creating custom chapters and a comment another guy made, bu it would be really interesting to see you do your own Order of the Adepta Sororitas, as the guy said the order of sword and steel, create your own lore, history,, custom colours to go on the amour and so on, be like project lol
Not moss it is rough coat to protect the bricks made of small stones and a cement, it was used a lot in house building in Scotland in the 70s and 80s
Thank you :)

Thank you , Lady Naomi .

Seems like a good addition to my terrain pieces. Thanks for sharing!

They are very neat looking high quality products.

Awesome 👍. Love your unboxings.

You could hold the pillars in place with a few small bits of Blu Tack.

A nice paint base to get people started make them individual yourself,
I don't mind the ladder leading to nowhere, kind of looks like there were some alterations to the building and the ladder was just left in place.
They look good but I think the painting is a bit off in places. Like you said the moss is too uniform and stops too abruptly, and I don't understand why they painted parts of the stone buttresses in rust.

It's not moss and those rust panels are metal.
Nice review. I would be tempted to the windows out & build a new frame to make a stained glass window of a chapel for your sisters.
The window frames tend to pop out. You'll want to glue them in. Otherwise great pieces, and the "industrial" additions really appeal to me.
Cool looking terrain! Would look great as companions to the more gothic looking GW terrain
I read that as stucco/pebbledash rather than moss,.
Really nice to see what they look like though , been tempted by a few as quick scenery expansion , but they have so little information online
You do a good job of pointing out problem areas. I am surprised that they are not weathered at all. Not for me, but some people will like them.
So the badly fitting windows might be fine for a bombed out building. I imagine the frames of the windows would shift anyway, making for a poor fit, but I think I would cut away some of the "bars" in the windows to show damage better. I am also rather fond of the pillars.
Hey good vid thanks for the review I wonder if there’s more places to buy pre-painted stuff
I agree, they definitely look better without the windows; they look more "ruinous"

another great review Naomi

They are IKEA :)
Another option with the pillars is do is attach a small circle of MDF to the base.

12:07 - "These little fellows are about 3 inches.... ♪Tall♫".... Naomi, you beautiful soul, thank you!
Great upload 👍 thanks 😀

Kinda wish the floors were the same type, doesn't matter which
"Actually, I'm okay with that" made my day. lol
could be perfect for a factorum or some old factory on an imperial planet who could be stuck in early 20th century era.
I don't buy terrain but if I did , those would be on the list.
When Naomi turns the stream into an ASMR stream. Coincidence? I think not! :)
I think they would be great for WWII games 😁
Cool!
The gale force stuff has always been great especially compared to the GW stuff!
Have you thought about going the 3D printer route in future? Some great terrain and minis are possible nowadays.
I would live in thos ruins if I could. But I'm affraid my life would be ruined.
Marry me. Bear my children.
