    Some foreigners asked me why the pyramid-shaped nasi lemak had no fried chicken or rendang in it? Those are basic nasi lemak actually and usually sold in the morning for people who are on the go to work etc. The premium nasi lemak like Wanjo, WSO, Village Park etc are the ones with rendang, fried chicken and misc addon.

    If you haven't try all kinds of Nasi Lemak in Malaysia:
    1)Nasi Lemak Telur/Ayam/Ikan- you can find in local mamak/malay restaurants
    2)Nasi Lemak RM1-RM5 - you can find this type of Nasi Lemak usually in the morning with small street vendor
    3)Nasi Lemak fine dining style - you can find this at fine dining restaurants usually cost about RM8-RM20 a plate.
    4)Nasi Lemak Homemade by Malaysian people's - and each recipe will taste differently.
    Some restaurant's will put special type of Nasi Lemak like:
    1)Nasi Lemak Pandan
    2)Nasi Lemak berlauk
    3)Nasi Lemak Chicken Chop
    4)Nasi Lemak Ayam Penyet
    5)Nasi Lemak Ayam berempah
    6)Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam
    7)Nasi Lemak Ikan Bakar
    8)Nasi Lemak McDonald's
    9)Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang
    10)Nasi Lemak sambal sotong
    This is the list of all Nasi Lemak i have try in Malaysia.

      Khas untuk kouji, well actually for kaz + nobu, as well as poko + shun too, since you love the clams/cockles there at wanjo with the nasi lemak, then you should try ask the local malays where to get *rendang kerang.* Yup, instead of rendang ayam or rendang daging (beef), you must try rendang kerang. I'm talking about *rendang kerang negeri sembilan style.* It's greenish in color, not reddish like what you had there at wanjo. Have the n9 rendang kerang with a plate (or 3) of steaming hot n9 original nasi lemak (where the rice is really fragrant, truly lemak, with generous coconut milk!) accompanied by the usual sides, yummy!! 😋😋😋

      There’s one more. Nasi Lemak in fast food chain restaurants. Marry Brown, KFC, McDonald’s. My personal favorite is Nasi Lemak McD with two spicy Ayam Goreng McD.
      Btw that 8-20 range is Kopitiam Nasi Lemak. Like Old Town or Pak Li. Fine dining can easily cost you 45-unlimited. Watched a video of someone eating Nasi Lemak approaching RM100.

    Kaz is right. Nasi dagang is much like nasi lemak--delicious. The problem with nasi dagang is finding a good one. Oftentimes, they make it too sweet, not salty enough, or not spicy enough. If it's already pre-packed, usually they skimp on the tuna.

    Speaking of Nasi Dagang, if you guys ever go to Langkawi, you should definitely go to Pak Malau. Very good nasi dagang and you can look out at the field and take pictures there too. Go there early in the morning, it's a good breakfast. It gets crowded super fast. Their nasi dagang is a mix of glutinous rice and normal rice and they have curry as the side dish. You can eat with fish curry, chicken curry, fried chicken, etc.

    next time, the best style to eat any rice based either nasi putih or nasi lemak, you can try to get each side dish(lauk) in a single plate. so if you are 5 people, you can have 5 dishes(lauk) to share and just order 5 plates of basic nasi lemak(which contains cucumber+anchovis+sambal+boiled/fried egg). even, if you need additional nasi(nasi tambah), just asked for nasi tambah. sharing is caring.

    • @vspirit
      @vspirit 2 роки тому +6

      I wonder if they'd prefer to stick to halal food during the ramadhan mth, since they are fasting and all. Indian food generally doesn't contain pork (even if not certified halal) and they could go for the same with Chinese food. Some of the best Chinese dishes contain pork, tho, and lots of it, too. So if they enjoy that, maybe they'd prefer to go for those after ramadhan is over? It's what I'd recommend anyway, if they prefer to remain true to the spirit of it all.
      Indian food is my absolute fave cuisine personally and banana leaf rice sits on top even within that so I'd definitely recommend they try that after they've built up higher tolerance for spicy food, since I find indian spicier (and a lot less sweet) than Malay food in general. Dunno bout the halalness of it but because pork isn't usually part of it, I reckon it should be safe enough to try--for non-muslims at least--during ramadhan, if they feel they're ready for it. Lol.

    • @jonmath4182
      @jonmath4182 2 роки тому +4

      @@vspirit yeah many non Muslims mistakenly thought halal means no pork, and that's it, or maybe add another feature: the chicken etc needs to be slaughtered the Muslim way. Well, actually there are more to it, many small things that people tend to overlook, for eg no pork does not only mean no pork meat, it actually means nothing of pork byproduct - no lard, no cooking oil with lard or whatever pork byproduct, and furthermore, even the pots and pans and utensils and containers etc can only be used after performing certain Islamic cleansing ritual on each item if it has come in contact with pork or its byproduct. This is where the mistake usually happens with the non Muslims thinking the food is okay because there's definitely no pork meat inside and even the chicken used is halal. Just for info for our non Muslim friends. Peace!

    there is one more thing, a very important one that many non muslims who are trying to fast in ramadan forget....it's that you should make wishes to God/pray to God for whatever you want before the iftar time (something like 10 mins before iftar time and you can oray till the iftar time begins)
    for example if the iftar time is at 7:30, i'll start asking God for whatever i want from 7:20 to 7:30, if i don't have so much to ask and my prayer/wish list is short then i end my prayers at 7:25 something like that.
    the point is, the time before sunset is a time where your prayers are granted, so don't miss this chance that you get everyday (even after ramadan)
    i uaually ask for good marks (i'm a graduation stutend), for my parents health, for my health, to get more knowledge, good character, best behavior etc

      Well, true, for a foreigner not used to using hands to eat 👍 However I do have to say that you guys still need to work on the method. The rules are actually: 1) not to have the food onto your palm area, just limit it to the area of the fingers, and 2) not to have the food drop down especially when your hand is already airborne and you're getting to your mouth 😂 Good luck in getting better! 💪💪

Which also explains why muslims are punctual with fasting, because that is rule, the real teaching. Only that, not many of us applying that into the other routines too ☺️

    In my personal opinion, Wanjo's Nasi Lemak, for me is one of the most authentic nasi lemak you can find in KL. you can really taste the "lemak" in the nasi. I am very satisfied. Not a fan of sweet stuffs but I can accept their sweet sambal because the fabulous taste of the rice itself already make up to it. Some may not agree but i went to other's famous Nasi Lemak restaurant and the rice only taste like our usual ordinary nasi, not 'lemak' at all. Yes the sambal might be spicier but it is not the real Nasi Lemak to me.
