    • The Road by Cormac McC...
"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy is a haunting and post-apocalyptic novel that follows a father and son as they journey across a desolate and devastated landscape. Set in a world ravaged by an unspecified cataclysm, the novel explores themes of survival, despair, and the enduring bond between parent and child. As they struggle to find safety and meaning in a world devoid of hope, the duo encounters various dangers and encounters that test their resilience and humanity.
The impact of "The Road" on modern culture is profound. McCarthy's stark prose and bleak portrayal of a post-apocalyptic world have left an indelible mark on literature and popular culture. The novel has garnered critical acclaim, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and has been adapted into a successful film. Its exploration of existential themes and the human condition has influenced subsequent works in the dystopian genre, shaping contemporary discussions about morality, resilience, and the fragility of civilization in the face of catastrophe.

This used to be my favourite book until I read Moby Dick.
What I especially like about the book is the atmosphere and aesthetic of the book. It is dark, cold, gloomy, scary at every levels. As far as I read of the post-apocalyptic genre, this one is the most refined.
The story is slow and goes nowhere but, to me, it is the point, something contemplative. While reading I felt like i was going thru the world, walking the road with the characters. Falling, stumbling, almost crawling towards the last tiny bits of hope possible. It was like feeling every emotions of the characters with them.
I think what I like the book is exactly why people hated it: it makes you feel miserable. It destroys all last threads of hope you have in a hundred or so pages. But, still, isn’t it the point?
Anyway, to me, something like a 4,5/5.

That is probably the best review of someone who likes it that I have seen. I would agree that the author was really able to convey the misery of the situation very well.

It is very different from the Hunger Games, it is a much darker a bleaker look at a post apocalyptic world. But apparently people love it. If you end up reading it, let me know what you think. Its a pretty quick read.

No man. Listening and reading is not the same thing. You would lose a debate with an informed opponent to the extent that you may never do another podcast again in your life. That said, The Road is McCarthy’s worst book. He was a genius, though.

It was absolutely poorly written. 10% of all sentences are "ok". Literally. Booooooring. Doesn''t hold a candle to "The Stand".
Anybody who's read more than 3 books in his life will quickly see that in both style and vocabulary, The Road is left wanting

No. It's weak writing with no discernible plot. A bunch of really bad stuff happens. The End. Absolute dribble.
