Hi! I worked as a paper restoration and I remember seeing, here in Europe, a type of "rag paper". leftover fabrics that were beaten in water (with mills) until they became fine fiber, and went to dry as you do in your processes. I was watching your video and I shouted here at home: RAG PAPER! HAHA HA! I screamed for remembering this study and because these dry fibers from the dryer always prompted me to do something ... I thought about filling for pillows, but this idea of yours is incredible! So, congratulations!
I know I'm two years late, but this is very interesting. A nickname (actually a slur) used for people in my town is "rag gatherers" because we used to collect those rags for the local paper industry and it was considered a job with low value.
I'm 45 and I remember when I was in 2nd grade our teacher taught us to make paper out of lint and paper and it was absolutely beautiful. Then we made books out of it. One of the best school memories for me.
This texture looks more like felt than paper, but what an incredible result! It immediately gives me DIY embroidery vibes. It could be probably used as a handbook to keep in some stitching samples 🤔
This reminds me of one of my childhood dreams where I wanted to make paper from pencil shavings and I has one of those pencil sharpeners that would grind the wood into little strings XD. Love the video!
Vinegar does the same if you want to try without even care about money. Also, adding some hydrogen peroxide (water t clean wounds) can soften and bleach it to play also with colors
Several years ago I saved a ton of dryer lint, hoping to eventually figure out what to do with it. My hubby finally convinced me that it might be a fire hazard, and to throw it away. Oh how I regret that decision now! Well, now that I have an excellent use for it, I will start saving it all again! Thank you for the video! And absolutely would love to see more videos on different things to make paper out of! What a great series it will be! Thanks again. I'm loving the dryer lint paper for a journal!
I save my lint for making fire starters for my fireplace but this is a good idea to try, I've made paper years ago and really am looking forward to trying again. I'm really happy I found you, you're doing so much more than just paper.
Thank you so much! My girlfroend sent me your tiktok because i was searching for good use of dryer waste for months, and i saw you posted a video of it on youtube, thank you very much im going to try to make some this holiday!
LOVE this technique, thank you so much for this video. I have begun saving dryer lint, remembering reading about a fine artist who used it as his medium many years ago. But also was wondering how to incorporate it into art journaling, incl pen pal 5-item challenges. You have answered my questions perfectly. Namaste'.
I just found your channel and I love this series so far! Great job with the dryer lint paper 🙂 Could you make paper out of coffee filters or teabags? You could tip out the used tea or grounds and then dry out the tea bags/filter paper until you had enough. I would be interested to see if that works 🙂
Amazing! I have been saving dryer lint for some time keeping the colors separate. I didn't know what I was going to do with it but, you know we crafters save everything. I never thought of paper. Thank you for the video.
Hi Lisa, I’ve just discovered your experimental recycled paper videos and am finding them fun and instructive. This video, in particular, reminds me of a visit I made to a small factory in the Himalayas in February 2020, that recycled cotton T shirts to make paper. The process was long and the resulting paper was much like the one you made here. They separated the white and dark coloured t shirts and made large sheets, which they turned into all sorts of uses. Fascinating! And you’ve discovered this for yourself by using the left over fibres from the dryer… well done!
Before you mentioned it I thought it looked like felt. Our dryer lint would also be personalized with pet hair, human hair, or beard hair. It just depends what made it into the washer and then the dryer.
Great DYI I'm going to try this. Then use modge podge to seal the individual pages. And use acrylic paint. Maybe even take little cute pictures that I find. Attach them to the sheets of the book . Make a scrapbook.
Thank you so much Lisa, I really really enjoyed watching you create this gorgeous and stunning paper from dryer lint. Whatever next??? What about scrap’s of fabric, made into fabric paper? Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤
gears are turning.. since this seems to behave more like felt or fabric.. perhaps still journaling in it, but through embroidery? would make a cool gift for a talented stitching/quilting artist 💚
Ohh I'm so glad someone has done this! I really want to try making my own paper to use for art, and as a way to recycle at home (since so much of american recycling tends to end up incinerated)
It’s beautiful. I’m always wondering if there are any additives (natural or otherwise) that would render the papers more accepting of a variety of mediums. 🤔
I have a request for "will it paper" series. STYROFOAM..... I pressed a chunk of it in a clothes pin and realized it made it paper thin. Im thinking if you tear it into seperate little balls it could act as the fibers of paper when overlaped and pressed? I would try it myself but i instantly thought of you and this series when i had the idea. I feel like it was meant for you to try. Id love to see it. Much love to you!!❤
Since styrofoam is plastic and non-porous, it would not work. You would not be able to write on it either. Small bits might work added to a cellulose slurry (paper or cottay fibers) for interesting embellishment, much like glitter.
Try mixing in other materials, like the ones you use in making regular paper. Also try adding some downy to the water in the last step, (mix well) then its ready to make the paper. You can add many other things, like cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, vanilla bean, crushed cinnamon sticks, coffee grains, crushed rose petals, color, tea grains or/and string of many different kinds and many other great ideas! I have used these ideas in all my paper making and dying/staining paper technician. :-)
We did this yesterday, still waiting for it to dry! SUPER EXCITED!!! I was wondering though, could you make paper out of colour catchers?? Thanks so much for these videos!! Love them 😊💜
You should make paper using ... leaves??? Also, I wanted to see how a tiedye sort of look would be on paper making (such as dropping drops of dye on the water and seeing how the patterns change as you add different colors)
i have wanted to try paper making for the longest time, and then i started watching you, i will be trying to make paper any day now! I am so excited, also i have a suggestion for one. Can you try making it out of paper towels? it would be interesting to see if you can.
If you somehow mixed the lint with some wax and made a book type thing it would be great for fire starters. you could just pull a little out of the book each time. The sheets are great if you don't have a lot of backpack space.
Hi! Thanks for your videos, they are so inspiring! So, that I've been wanting to make some recycled paper since the first tiktoks of yours that I saw reposted on instagram a few weeks ago. I have been watching your videos and I have a few questions. How do you manage the last amounts of pulp in your container? Or do you have to just let some of it go? Do you have any more tips for the alternative paper breaking methods? The blender might be the best, but definitely not the most affordable option. :( And the last question, the one why I comment on this specific video: do you think flower petals or fallen leaves would make a proper paper? Not talking about using them as decoration, but as the main material. Thanks again! Also, no need to answer if it's too much, sorry. 😅 Keep being so nice!
@@nevermindpaper It helped a lot! Thanks for your detailed answer, you are the best. I'm excited to start recycling paper and will stay tuned for any more videos you might post. 🌿
I wonder if it clumped up because of residue from dryer sheets. If so, adding a bit of soap might help, but I don't know what the result on the end product would be.
I imagine the qualities of lint paper could vary somewhat depending on the clothing that was drying. Not all of lint is dust, a lot of it is loose particles of fabric. That would certainly be an interesting experiment. Cotton lint vs. Synthetic lint, or something like that.
I just watched a video about a company in India that used a blend of 50% deteriorating fabric shredded, and 50% recycled paper and the result was amazing.
When I saw those light pink tufts in the jar I thought "oh that would make a beautifully toned paper." (probs takes an eternity to collect enough, tho)
cooool~ how about.... i don't know if you eat take out a lot, but what about those paper take out boxes! haha. will the paper still smell like the food? hm...
#nevermindlisa I love this idea, shame my tumble dryer died. I was wondering if it would work with scrap fabric and scrap threads. I sew you see and keep every last scrap and even the threads. Please try this!

That one GOT me
Omfg I love that 😂😭
I was going to skim through this, now I have to hear all the words for the lolz
"I can genuinely not believe we pulled this off." Not sure how much I contributed to this group project but thanks for getting us the grade!
Im gonna kiss you

As someone who is brand new to making paper, i am HERE for this "will it paper" series!!
This reminds me of one of my childhood dreams where I wanted to make paper from pencil shavings and I has one of those pencil sharpeners that would grind the wood into little strings XD. Love the video!
That would be fun to embroider on. Thanks for sharing!
This was a great idea! A mixture of lint and paper pulp would probably go together really well
I absolutely love your commentary 2:49 'haha bubbles'
I wonder how differently it would perform depending on the contents of the lint. Of you wear more synthetics v natural and whatnot
Maybe you can mix the lint with normal paper pulp
Or if you rinse the lint with a little dawn dish liquid before you make the pulp to get the fabric softener out?
Do synthetics create lint though? If not then you would not have as much lint. Hmmmmm
Vinegar does the same if you want to try without even care about money. Also, adding some hydrogen peroxide (water t clean wounds) can soften and bleach it to play also with colors
@@AP-pk9gwdid you seriously imply hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, is the same as water, H2O?
This turned out way better than I expected! Great work!

Adding sizing or gelatin to the lint mixture might yield a better paper. Watercolor paper has sizing. Perhaps that is the missing ingredient?
Oh and I am super excited for more ‘will it paper?’ How about old clothes? Like jeans or towels maybe?

Mine would probably half cat hair & half lint :p
Suggested will-it-papers: glossy magazine pages, garden clippings like grass or leaves, tea bags, crumbled up corks?

I really like the fountain pen result.
Could/would the paper be better if it were pressed instead of hung up to dry? Or if it had some kind of glue or binder in the water?

Fabulous!
You change your sponge! The old one had a bit of personality in my opinion.

Adding this to my post apocalyptic handbook
do you have a journal tutorial? your binding process looks easier than others!

Maybe pizza boxes? Where I'm from we're not allowed to put those in the recycling bin because of the grease of the pizzas...
What happens if you mix it within regular pulp?
That was excellent
Thank you ❤
I'm guessing dryer lint "bags" would work better than sand bags in flooded territories. Spring is coming....save that dryer lint! Lol 🙂
I wonder what would happen if you added the fibers to regular paper pulp and made a Hybrid
Do you think if you bleach it first you might get something more lighter
Wow!
So Great! Thanks!
Too cool!! Thank you!
