  • A viewer asked me about the green mat I use in my videos. I am far from the only one. A lot of makers and DIY hobbyists use these mats because they are special.
These are self-healing cutting mats. You can use them to safely cut stuff on them, and the cuts you make will close on their own (unless you're pushing with too much force or using a very large blade).
My cutting mat is made by OLFA (not a sponsor) and is made in Japan.
💳 You can get one here (Affiliate Links*):

One downside to these cutting mats is that they do not like heat. They will warp if they get hot, and the tip of a soldering iron will instantly melt the surface.
*An affiliate link means that I may make a small commission if you make a purchase, but the price you pay stays the same. This helps me make more videos. Thanks!

To say ot doesn’t like heat is an understatement mine has just been sat in my workspace in English summer heat and it has warped drastically

I never got one of those, despite seeing them a lot over the years. I always use too much force, so I'd just ruin the mat. Now I just occasionally ruin the exacto knife blade tip.

Self-healing is a snake oil claim. Those mats do not heal cuts. They have just enough flexibility so that the edges of the cut do not permanently deform, so it appears as if the cuts aren't there. Slightly bend the cutting mat and the cuts along the bend will show.
