If the Nomad were AWD, it would literally have been the all conquering machine..
rahul nargundkar awd would ruin what the nomad is, a very light multi terrain vehicle. It has the weight where it needs it by the drive wheels.
I think just a more appropriate tire choice would have made it effortless. Looks like they had studded rally tires on top, but I think I would have just opted for some non-studded winters.
@@flat6targa Modern AWD's are much lighter and don't add a tonne of weight..
@@ALMX5DP your point makes sense but adding AWD means you can literally take it anywhere from San Dunes to rocks to ice with simple off road tyres and only requiring specialized tyres like the studded ones while driving through Siberia..
@@revaddict Let's take an Audi A3 as an example. FWD versions weigh 1450kg (3200lbs) while AWD versions weigh 1555kg (3428lbs). That's a 105kg (231lb) difference. While not much in a small sedan, when you consider the Nomad only weighs 670kg to start, adding 15% in weight is considerable. The Nomad isnt a rock crawler, it really doesnt need the front providing power. Dune tires if at the dunes, studded winters on the ice, and all terrains for the rest. Like the Atom, it's a momentum car and momentum cars just dont need that extra drive (not to mention the fun factor of keeping it rwd only).
This doesn't make me want a Nomad any less. I desire this car badly
Sad that it got stuck in the snow though. I fell in love with buggies after watching Westworld season 2.

Was fully intending to bike or ski when I reached the summit. The wind and conditions were just too much. Plus, it looked daft and cool on the back

I'm wondering how they either
a.) actually got that amazing sound quality in the ariel
or
b.) managed to overdub with that amazing accuracy.
This was excellent to watch but just needed more because it looked so much fun :)

Needed to keep warm basically! And also didn't want to risk the Disco getting stuck in the same snowdrift

No surprise the Disco made to the top given that it's AWD. What they didn't show you was that it was the Disco that broke trail and the Nomad followed. lol
How does this make it the best car for the conditions? Its the worst! No winter tires, rear wheel driven, no doors.... the best suited for the conditions??? Really??
Exactly, it would make more sense to do the run on a Skidoo. Guaranteed it would 10x faster and that would be 1000% more fun. James, Richard and Jeremy would have raced sleds.

We took one through a McDonalds drive thru last year - as an unaided driving machine it's so much fun!
Looks like April weather in the middle of Sweden, we have 4-5 months without snow. Some days getting to work is a real challange, now we had around -30c for two weeks straight, its pretty tuff.
The difference between this guy getting stuck in 3 inches of snow and the old trio getting stuck in 20ft drifts near the North Pole sums up the difference between new & old Top Gear. It's like comparing brass and gold

Did you get proper snow tires for the Nomad?
Had them with us, but decided not to use them - they were spiked WRC tyres and would have wrecked the tarmac if they'd touched it
Oliver Marriage understandable. Awesome trek to see the capabilities of the nomad. I’m sure the the seat warmers I the Discovery was a godsend afterwards 😂

You claim nobody drives that road in winter, yet there’s tire tracks uphill of the Nomad. Not much of an adventure.
Ours, from previous takes, mostly. Also, there's a military observatory at the summit that gets supplies sent up

Only some insane person would deliberately go out to play in weather conditions like that.

The BBC stuffed shirts, apparently never understood, that the appeal of the (original) Top Gear, was the hilarious cast. The cars were only supporting characters......and that’s all I’ve got to say about that since “The Grand Tour” is about to start...
Like the car, but: I drove in harsher snow conditions in a MK1 golf GTI, no shovel needed...
Can we see you guys actually showing your knowledge of engine performance and function rather than just pumping gas and ripping on cars?
i thought the people finally got over the new topgear.. sure not everything they now made is up to the old, but things like this is amazing nevertheless. A unedited POV would be just mindblowing.

The back of that Discovery is one of the prettiest sights ever. I would like to meet the man (or woman) who designed that.

As with all programmes these days the presenter, in this case "Mr Dull, considers themselves more important than the subject! Sports have suffered the worst in particular athletics where the event is dominated by the presentation team forgetting the action, I do not care who this old fella is but the Nomad has more personality.
