To Josh saying he thinks if she left she would’ve taken her stuff…. She did. She took her purse, her burner phone, the $2500 in cash she got from those bonds, and she took both her Phoenix Coldon and Phoenix Reeves birth certificates. This girl left. I don’t blame her.

It is so frustrating to think of how many missing teens and young adults could've been saved if the police hadn't written them off as "a runaway" or didn't care because the person was over 18 and "can do what they want"

    • @kianadyson

A runaway is still a young person at risk and that alone should be enough to search as soon as possible. If she doesn't want to come home at least they know she is alive.

or let’s be the generation that teaches OUR kids not to be runaways or run off and start new lives, wasting millions of resources. this happens WAY more than you think. then, when people go missing maybe the world will actually take it seriously.

(Parents only allowed her to go to the Christian college 15 min from out town) Her parents never talked to her about sex. EVER. This was before you could search on phones. She was forbid to even say the word sex, to anyone. Her parents always told her "we can talk about it on your wedding day". I grew up in the STL area, and I knew a girl that started working with a group of "pimps" right out of high school. She was constantly posting things on her social media about staying in fancy hotels in the city, driving nice cars, and doing drugs. She also frequently went on trips out of town. Come to find out she was starring in adult films with these men, and got out of it not long ago and has implied that it was a desperate point in her life where she was getting manipulated and abused. This case reminds me so much of that girl and stories I've heard from other women in STL. The area in which Phoenix's car was found is near strip clubs, brothels, sketchy motels, and well-known drug dens. It honestly would not surprise me one bit if Phoenix got tangled up in something similar to this and is still out there today avoiding her parents. Something else to consider is that if she were murdered, there are many abandoned buildings in STL and the Mississippi River runs along the city, where bodies go unnoticed for quite some time before being found. Of course, there is the possibility of this being a case of sex trafficking due to her car being found near I-70 (good to note that this particular part of the interstate does not have a whole lot of heavily populated or well-lit exits, most exits between the Illinois and Missouri state lines consist of abandoned buildings, the landfill, and fields/woods/bodies of water). All in all, this is such an eerie case, and it's bizarre to listen to details of a case that is so close to home. I really hope and have a feeling that Phoenix is still alive and out there somewhere living a new life (hopefully a safe one). Thank you Kendall and Josh for handling this in such a respectful way and looking at all possibilities.

    • @matcha.clouds

I am stuck between 2 theories. 1. Being trafficked- I could see someone she was secretly seeing grooming her n then took his opportunity n snatched her. But then there's the 2nd theory that I can see equally as well n that is her leaving of her own accord. She was so resentful of how she was being raised that she very well could have just left to start over. I will definitely keep up on this case n hopefully Phoenix is found safe n sound somewhere living the life she wanted vs the life her parents wanted for her. Very very sad!!

    • @kowaljanowski
      @kowaljanowski 4 місяці тому +1

Looking at the statistics as I recall, sadly the average life expectancy of someone once they start doing meth is 10 years or so. Driving intoxicated can lead to one's own death, or life imprisonment if you accidentally kill someone else. Those outcomes, IMO count as "ruining your life". In my opinion, parents have a duty to protect their children from making mistakes that could be fatal for them, just as they have a duty to try to keep them from catching terrible diseases, dying in accidents, etc.

Seriously East St Louis is usually the #1 in murders if not in the top 5 and it’s a very small unpopulated town, 26,543 people and 14 square miles and the homicide rate is 96 murders per 100,000 people. The national rate is 5. FIVE murders per 100,000 nationally. So the odds are not good. You don’t go to ESTL unless you’re up to no good. Sorry but being that strict isn’t healthy for anyone, I grew up in a strict Christian family. My dad was a pastor and my mom homeschooled us. Phoenix' comment comment about riding in the back of the cop car definitely means that most people in her life are trying to police her. They're controlling her every move and she feels like there's no point of fighting back against their force. She's tired of being told how to live her life in all aspects. It was foreshadowing for her ultimate rebellion of removing herself from their control. She definitely fled from the immense pressure.

I can’t help but think that this case has a connection to sex trafficking and I70. From I70 you can be in different states in no time. I think phoenix ran away. She planned her escape months ahead, probably when she was asked to come back home since she knew her parents were going to continue to treat her like a child. The day of her disappearance she got the call that her escape was ready so she left in a hurry how her parents explained, she obviously staged and ditched the car as to not be found and she ran away, probably very far and changed her name so her parents couldn't find her. I came up with this because I had strict parents and couldn't wait to get away from them cause I knew they were gonna continue to treat me like a child and have thought about running away, moving away at 18 and all the above. So this makes perfect sense in my mind

An hour into our date my dad walks in claiming he wanted to make sure we were actually going to be here. He also wouldn’t let me go on birth control when my cramps literally caused me to pass out because he thought I’d use it as an excuse to have sex. My dad controlled almost everything in my life. I found out at 18 that I was conceived out of wedlock...after my mother had stressed the importance of waiting until marriage. She had even stated MANY times that she waited. I also discovered that she didn't graduate from high school, which she also stressed the importance of. She even went as far as to say that my father had tried to stop her from graduating but that she had taken night classes just to get her diploma. Once I confronted her about everything, she cried and admitted to it all. She got her H.S. diploma in 1998, and she is STILL in college! 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’ve said it a 1000 times, I’m someone who enters missing people/runaway juveniles every day and night. Not all agencies are like this. That first officer should have definitely taken the initial report. She would have been entered nationwide. And you 100 percent can enter a vehicle associated with a missing person. So what happens is when the officer runs a plate you will get a return that will say it’s a missing persons vehicle and it will say who is the missing person. And in the city I work in if an officer finds an abandoned vehicle from a different city and is left in a “weird” way that officer will have us call that cities agency to send an officer to the registered owners address. They will attempt to contact the owner and see if the vehicle is an unreported stolen vehicle or who should be in possession of the vehicle. Bottom line is I hate lazy officers and detectives. Don’t ever let an officer say you have to wait for 24 hours, don’t ever let an officer talk you out of a missing persons report. If that happens then you call back in and request the on duty watch commander/supervisor.

My mom is in her late 70’s and that waiting ‘48 hrs to report someone missing’ came up recently and she was stunned when I told her that it wasn’t true. The thought of how many people believe that and may waste that precious time is frightening.

This just very much reminded me of the statement about how very strict parents create very sneaky kids and it’s very unfortunate because the parents obviously care about their kids but at some point you have to let them be their own person

Thank you for realizing that not all homeschoolers are the same! I’ve raised my son with a ton of freedom and tried not to shelter him too much, especially since he became a teenager.

I think she was talking to Mike about her plan to leave and start over and he helped her. That is why the cops were able to rule Mike out, he probably let them know what was going on and they verified his story. Maybe the cops met up w Phoenix and she told them about what her life was like with her parents. I hope she’s still alive and well just living life somewhere in a mountain community, away from people and just living life peacefully!

I met my best friend in 5th grade...in 1996. And we were fast friends. We had a lot in common but also came from very different back grounds. I was from an upper middle class comfortable life with a 40yr family business.and she fm a single mom who was in recovery working a job and trying to go back to college, living in a one bedroom apt and had bunk beds. My friend was a straight A student and her mom pushed her SUPER HARD and i was a decent student that tested well but hated school and struggled in math. And once she callex me about a question on homework and her mom over heard. And since I didnt know and she ended up figuring it out, her mom told her we couldnt be friends. She told me the next day at school her mom said i wasnt smart enough to be friends with. I went home upset and my mom was pissed and Called her mom. My friend got in trouble for Repeating what was said rather than just 'breaking up with me' or ignoring me. But we stayed friends and are still close to this day. Ironically enough i went to Purdue and got a psych degree and she went to Art school and now works at a non profit (which is GREAT but not what her mom Wanted for her).

It's definitely not easy to have a person disappear from your life and know that if they did this intentionally, they're trying really hard not to be found... I often wonder how a person who does that feels when they see people desperately looking for them... but at the end of the day, if she decided to walk away from her life, I hope she's safe and alright, because making a decision like this was definitely not easy - no matter what pushed her to do this

I am a home school parent, and I understand what you are talking about, the way we educated our children was in such a way that we often had to avoid homeschooling events and organizations because what we were doing was so diametrically in opposition to those that make up the majority of the homeschooling population.

Can I just say you two are serious relationship goals? I’m serious. I’m not even saying this because you guys are cute together but because there’s clearly a strong friendship foundation between you too. You two are husband and wife but it’s clear that you two also have this strong best friend bond and that’s just so refreshing to see because I feel like most couples I see on social media and UA-cam are just “for the gram” and there’s nothing genuine or deep about it. It’s all just for the appearance. That is so important in a relationship. Anyways, I just wanted to say that and I love listening to your podcasts! I discovered you a couple months ago and I’ve been a huge fan since!
