I thought how great it would be to have that absolutely spoiled existence with zero responsibilities. It’s like they took that mindset & ran with it to the extreme.
They’ve got no responsibilities, don’t have anyone to think about beside themselves nor do they have any proper careers.
They must feel deeply insecure and unworthy to be seeking such escape and trying to be special/different. It is not creativity, it is self obsession.

I'm not sure if they're trying to escape reality or not. However, if I had to bet, someone who 1st started up this idea/ideology saw how crazy gender identity has become and accepted and thought what about a new group? Let's see how many people will fall for it. If I remember correctly, all of the different genders were started by one man with a degree, and it spread out of control (over a hundred different genders now). A lot of young adults have a strong focus on what they enjoyed during their childhood so therians might be only one side of what’s happening in the minds of some young adults and I’m thinking it all equals to wanting to disappear from the reality of starting out your life in this day and age. For those that are teenagers doing this, I have no answer. If anyone did this when I was a teenager they would either do it once and never do it again from their peers not letting them or they wouldn’t be game enough to do it in the first place! @@kellysouter4381 Sadly, it happened a lot before the pandemic, and now, afterward, it probably happens even more. Sometimes, it comes down to buying food or buying dog/cat food. I'd rather shelters get the pets instead of people just dumping them in someone's neighborhood with no one to care for them. I don't condone the behavior at all, but I like to think I've helped these animals by fostering with a no-kill shelter so they could help more animals.
It's ok to play pretend. It's ok to do it as a kid and as an adult. Nurturing the creative side of us is a good thing to do. What is not ok is subjecting other people who don't want to be involved into your game of make believe. There are games where you can run around as animals, there are games where you can run around as vampires. @@mc1993I've heard that before, but when I buy cat food it's FOR my cat and I'm on SSDI. I get all sorts of assistance so there's nobody eating pet food unless they WANT to. There's even assistance through insurance companies. It's interesting, insurance paid for but the state, nothing out of pocket, and they give me $280 a month that I can use for food or OTC medicine or electric bills, or anything like that I need. That's on TOP of food stamps. AND subsidized housing. And I could get more, but I don't need it, so I don't take it. There's no reason for anyone to be eating pet food anymore.

i think right here we hit on one of the problems of civilization. The goal of civilization is to try and make life safer and to a point that's a good thing. However, civilizations always go too far, making everything so safe and predictable that life becomes boring. How many of us spend 90 percent of our lives just working at the same boring tasks over and over or are confined from creative pursuits by laws regulating every aspect of moneymaking from what you can post online to whether the words you use have been claimed by someone else like a plot of land?
As a civilization, we will last a lot longer if we can somehow take a step back and start cutting out some of the dead weight. We need less rules, less focus on control and sadly a little less safety in our world. If we did that, a lot of these very strange lifestyles would either drastically reduce or just disappear entirely.
Taking away of safety warning on innocuous items like pop tarts would be a start.
I was watching a video of a scientist talking about how humans have basically become stagnant and arnet really evolving at all anymore. I see what they mean now when there no way to let Darwins theory go into effect then there's nothing ruling out the weakest in people. It sounds incredibly harsh but if all the bad seeds are mixed in and never taken out of the bunch some if the trees will have horrible defects and eventually it will be everywhere and spread and intertwine with the normal healthy trees. Instead of continuing on with strong genes and having plentiful leaves and such all the trees will eventually have the defects in them and all will be brought down to the genetically mutated trees. None will be green healthy and thriving and all will suffer.
Conan warned us many, many years ago. Sadly, most didn't and don't listen.

This feels like it was the next stage in furry evolution. Years ago, back when the world was still sane, I was in a writers workshop and one of the guys there was a furry. He did not wear any kind of costume or anything else but he would describe his furry alter ego in detail like it was a real and important part of himself. Listening to him I thought this guy doesn't need a costume, he needs a psychiatrist.

First thought some of these people are just strictly looking for attention. However if I was to get down to it, I think this is a form of escapism. I think these people don't like the way the world is or the world is going and they think life would be simpler if they were just animals. This way they would have to deal with the reality around them.
I do believe therians are real to an extent with psychological therians, but with the spiritual ones that are mostly children.. I do believe that is an extended amount of imagination. Sometimes it could be in your imagination that you’re feeling a body part of you, and especially when you’re thinking about it. The ‘feel’ becomes more vivid to them with the huge imagination.
But yeah, I would also rather just be an animal. I don’t want to live in a world like this, but I want to survive. I despise humans, i’d rather live in a forest and do my own thing. Heck, i’d chuck my phone away for good. Time goes a lot quicker on the device, wasting life.
But I’m glad these therians doing quadrobics will get a LOT of exercise done and will spend time out in nature. That’s what we need, if being completely honest. Who cares if they share it online? One my former close friends has 'come out' to me about 12 different times now as different things non binary, gender fluid, trans femme, non binary trans femme, a furry... And most recently, as a therian. My soul left my body. It has been interesting and incredibly sad to watch this person go from cult to cult 'discovering themself.'
That’s def sad. Coming out once was more than enough for me. It can’t be easy to see someone follow every social fad imaginable. Some part of them obviously likes the attention they receive from “coming out” bc otherwise they wouldn’t continue the charade. Are they hostile to pushback or criticism?
@@Garbeaux. Once was enough for me too and that was way back in the late 90s/early 00's.
As for my former close friend, yes they are super hostile to pushback or criticism. They weren't always, I knew them for about 10 years before they came out the first time. I was never critical of them or their transition, I only asked questions but ultimately that is what put the wedges between us. They didn't like me asking questions. Especially when things did not add up or they were making irreversible decisions. Like when they out of the blue decided they wanted an orchiectomy without a single minute of professional therapy under their belt. And I was like 'well you can't put them back, maybe talk to a professional about it.' (i do think they were ultimately denied the surgery because they did not pass psych exams. I don't know for sure they just one day stopped talking about it and they never called me to 'help them out with recovery' which is something they had spoken about a lot.)
The final straw was the therian thing and I was admittedly rude. They invited me over super serious, I thought they had cancer or something. Sat me down, they started crying. And told me that they don't just have a opossum fursona, no, they are spiritually an opossum. I legitimately laughed and asked if i was going to find them in the apt complex's dumpsters at night. Which to this day I think is a legitimate ask, if you think you are an opossum inside you should... do what opossums do, right? Apparently not.

A lot of it is just a cry for help, or fake to make money from the spectacle.
Probably a mix of being bored, liking the extra attention, and overly embracing issues with not fitting in or conversely trying to fit in with groups of other people who do this sort of thing so they feel like they fit in somewhere.
