Billy is a dead duck....right?
Those two Husker linebackers dont even touch him....lol
NO ONE in history hit the hole or ran at FULL speed
INSIDE THE tackles like Billy did....incredible excelleration
amidst the line of scrimage the likes that have never been since.
His "in the box" speed and explosion are the best of all time. - Спорт
Billy Sims is the reason why I love Oklahoma football. I watch him play against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Im a Tennessee vol fan,but my first love(team) was the Oklahoma Sooners.I was 8yrs old when I took an interest in College Football, and the Sooners were it!
He is one of my favorite RBs of all time! When he came into the NFL instant impact! Smooth and elusive runner.
Keith Jackson told me at a supermarket in Encino, CA. about 5 yrs ago that
Billy Sims was the best running back he ever saw in College Football..
Simple as that....
No shite? OH NELLLY
Earl Cambell in college and his first 4 years as a pro. There's JIm brown, Earl Cambell, Barry Sanders, then everyone else.
@@badbonzai1 charles white
@@iggypopisgod9 who?
❤️ billy sim& wishbone offense& oklahoma late 1970s , billy sims football
And for all of their greatness and contributions (Joe Washington and Greg Pruitt) to OU, Barry Switzer said of Billy Sims "He is a great football player - there will never be another one like him at Oklahoma."
Charles White should box up the heisman and return it to its rightful owner....a.k.a. Billy Sims. Billy is such a class act that even now he says White had a great year and deserved to win. I asked him that question face to face about 6 mths ago. He is a stand up guy for sure. Billy without a doubt should have 2 heisman trophies, and is the true embodiment of a Sooner. BOOMER SOONER !!!!
Todd Pierson maybe
Billy should have 2 Heismans... hands down...he was the best player in America..pro or college...at that time....
Nah, Charles White had a far better season in 79' than Sims. USC went to the Rose Bowl and won as White ran for over 200 yards in that game.
@@NkrumahTure usc had great offensive lines plus rosebowl stuff has nothing to do with heisman
@@NkrumahTure not so. White had more carries and his yards per carry were less than those of Sims for the entire season.
This was when college football rivalries were must see.Billy Simms-great combination of speed and power.
RIP, Russell Gary (#9 for Nebraska who chased Billy down)
Billy Sims is an awesome guy! I've met him three times. BOOMER!
yes he is....
My hero
I was born in Oklahoma....been a sooner fan all my life..without a doubt BILLY SIMS IS THE MOST SPECTACULAR COLLEGE RUNNING BACK THAT I EVER WITNESS.
O.j.simpson was super great running back in college, Barry Sanders
Herschel Walker. Everyone is prejudice for their man. Marcus Dupree was freaking incredible but fought with Coach Switzer all the time. So many greats.
OU fans would chant,” Billeee,Billeeee !’ Don’t know what was in the water in Hooks,TX,but he was unique.
I love the running game Wishbone. Everyone back than had huge shoulder pads.
I got to see all of his great season in 1978 with the Ruf/Neks. Amazing. Then he may have been better the next year. Down the stretch he destroyed MU, NU, and OSU. He was incredible. Should have won it again.
I’ve been a fan for over 50 years. No one ran like Billy.
The pride of Hooks, Texas! Other than carrying the ball like a loaf of bread, he may have been the best of the wishbone backs. He could hit the hole at the line unbelievably fast!!
What a wonderful comment...I agree with you totally!
Anyone who saw him play those two years ---would totally agree he could have rushed for 3,000 yards and 40 TD's .EACH YEAR.
if ONLY HE WOULDA PLAYED THE WHOLE GAME...
Respects...
Growing up in Oklahoma in the 1970s we had not one but two of the best rivalries in football, against Nebraska and Texas. The OU-Nebraska game always seemed to have huge impact on the national title since one team or both teams were usually in the running. The 1975 OU-Nebraska game is my all-time favorite of the games I attended.
Somehow college football just no longer has the excitement it used to (for me) back in the day. Not sure exactly the reason.
Thanks for the Sooner highlights! Just an FYI, and perhaps someone else may have commented, but those Nebraska highlights in the first few minutes are from 1979. The ones with a starting backfield of Sims, JC Watts (QB), David Overstreet, and Stanley Wilson (true freshman FB).
love this guy!!! I loved her Frank Broyles too..RIP
I remember back in 78 i would look at games from the fifties and fourties and man the game changed alot now in 2015 looking back at this game it hasnt changed much (even the equipment)
Ohhhhh Lemeeee telll bout Keith Jackson....... And Billy. I miss anouncers from back in the day.
greatest running back in his prime. a work horse who had no problem carrying 25 times a game, and the ability to break one at any time. i know that fumble still haunts billy, 3:47 left in the game and down 3, they were undefeated and number 1. and despite losing 6 fumbles that day o.u. only lost by 3. those oklahoma vs. texas/nebraska games were events and always nationally televised, and it usually determined the number 1 in those days.
4 of the 6 lost fumbles took place inside the Nebraska 20. 2 of the 6 lost fumbles took place inside the Nebraska 10. They were the best team in the country that year. They would've blasted Penn State in the Orange Bowl. I cried for 3 straight hours after that game in 78!
80 yard TD run and hands the ball to the ref in the end zone. Man I miss those days. IMO', act like u expected to do that, not like the most surprised guy in the building!
Sims on that 3rd run: no.55, if ur not gonna try 2 tackle me I'll just knock u oughta the way
Best I've ever,seen.
These are highlights from the OU-Nebraska 1979 game in which #1 J.C.Watts was the qb. In 1977 and 1978 the QB was #6 Thomas Lott...... This should be eye test from 1977-1979.
Love Billy Sims!!
Owens, Pruitt, Washington, Sims, Dupree, Peterson, Murray.
I forgot Kenny King, Samije Perine. OU holds
both NCAA and NFL records for most yards rushing in a game!
And that's just a drop in the bucket. Every year OU had 5 or 6 backs going in and out of the huddle that would have started for any other team in the country.
Horace Ivory, Elvis Peacock, Buster Rhymes, Patrick Collins, David Overstreet, Jimmy Culbreath, Lydell Carr, Stanley Wilson, Leon Perry, Spencer Tillman, Renaldo Works, Kejuan Jones and 'Q'!! There's about 120 more I could add. As someone once said, the jar full of OU running backs was never empty.
Joe Don Looney
Collins, george [busta]rymes overstreet, demond parker, spencer tillman,
That Oklahoma uniform was designed for great running backs
I don’t really get why you ended a highlight reel with a fumble.
As a born and bred HUSKER fan loved this rivalry was also a Sooners fan of course not when we played always wanted to kick their ass lol great games nan whoever won that last game of the season went to the Orange Bowl. My very first HUSKER game I went to in Lincoln was the Oklahoma game when the Boz was playing and yep they won lol.
Much Respect to the Sooner Program.
Jim Pillen, who recovered the Sims fumble is now the governor of Nebraska.
This footage is from 1978 and 1979. Sims was a sophomore in 1977.
Has crazy legs. Fun to watch.
hey its kyler murray handing off to Billy Sims
I miss this rivalry
I miss this Rivalry
Did he even make it to the NFL? I can't remember which team if he did.
Billy Sizzzle!.... Billy Simms!. Yheeeee!.....
Remember the 70 yard run on their first play was called back.
Billy Sims greatest rb in OU history . That is saying a lot. Definitely deserved that second Heisman trophy as well. Charles who??
Steve Owens?
AD and Joe Washington are there too
Legendary college football player, ❤ him
Hmmmm Thomas Lott from San Antonio TEXAS, Pruitt from H-town,TEXAS, Washington from Port Arthur, TEXAS, BILLY SIMS HOOKS TEXAS, ADRIAN PETERSON PALESTINE TEXAS, you see where I am going with this right? lol Only Steve Owens, Tillman from OK...though i love watching the greats from OK...BILLY SIMS WAS THE BEST BTW I am from SA TX YES I AM A LONGHORN \m/ insert your horns down LMBO
Must have a reason those guys wanted to go to OU instead of staying in state and playing for the school that has done less with more than any program in college football history
Population of Texas 28 million. Population of Oklahoma 4 million. If you want to keep all your players in Texas, most of them couldn't play. Boomer.....
❤ billy ball, Billy sims
I miss when this was a rivalry. But I guess this is now for the history books.
Did you have fumble?
So explosive!
The greatest two running backs that ever came out of the US state of Oklahoma weren't even Sooners. They were OSU Cowboys in Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas! OU couldn't see those two running backs, yo!
Oklahoma has probably had about as good running backs as any school ever. Billy was ranked the #1 Sooner on one video I saw. No dissention here.
Who's bo jackson.??
Billy tore up the corn suckers all the time
Instantly changed the Detroit Lions overnight in 1980.
Then the reality set in (Russ Thomas).
The first highlights are from 1979 not 1977.
He got his clapped on the fumble
Wow if only Billy could have held on to the ball against Nebraska on 3yd line.No doubt OU would have won and beat whomever they would have played in Orange Bowl
John Manning i had a chance to meet Billy a few months ago and asked him if he remembered that play LOL. He rememberd. LOL. He let out a big groan and shook his head....I told him it was alright, cause we(SOONER FANS) had forgiven him long long ago. We laughed and talked for a good while after that. He is really a great person, like I always thought he would be. You are the best Billy
He collided with 2 Nebraska defenders. He had no shot
@@williamdavidcraigjr7841 To be fair that was one Hell of a Hit Billy took before he Fumbled.
@@johnmanning4097 The hit would not be legal today, right under the chin. There is a different video from the sideline at field level where you can see the power. WR Rhodes could not keep the block long enough. Watching the game live, Nebraska deserved to win. Switzer's toughest loss.
Why would you show a fumble for the last play?
Good Point.
Their Achilles heel !!!
I thought the same thing. But then I got to thinking, that was the game wrap. OU was about to win it in the final minutes. The fumble ended their chances. Game over.
The blocking back then was mostly chop blocks hahaha
I like Pillen clobbering him hahaha
Jeff Hanson made the hit, Pillen recovered. Nebraska had Missouri at home the next week and choked away a shot at the title to Missouri 35-31. Nebraska jumped up to number 2 in the polls ahead of Bama who blew them out 20-3 in the opener.
Dion, makes goosebumps doesnt !!?? LOL :)
Still Nebraska won in 1978 thanks to Sims.
Rip Fulton walker Miami Mafia boss
Some of this is 1979
Nothing like hitting the hole FAST.
Yes! The FASTEST....perfect explosion...never slows down while cutting...
I loved to watch that team it was a machine but they fumbled so much, made me crazy, lost the National championship to Arkansas ‘cause they gave up the ball, aaaaaah! Hahahahaha
Do y’all remember Marcus Dupree?
the best that never was....me and my brother were heartbroken when he left......grew up listening to OU games on our little hand held am radio. Billy to the 30 35 40 50 40 35....TD what a great childhood
Dupree - great natural talent. But not a hard worker. And not coachable. Doesn't deserve to be in a Sims conversation.
Great back but a cheap move at the 2:58 mark.
imagine if Billy wasn't a wishbone running back
He was Elvis Peacocks lead block
Nice seeing a football game without all the punk-ass bullshit players do today.
HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SIMS IS NOT ON FORD FIELD WALK OF FAME, SHOULD BE THERE JUST FOR USING 2 GUYS AS KICKING DUMMIES
Barry Sanders wasn't the best Detroit Lions running back to wear #20, let alone their best running back ever. Both of those honors belong to Billy Sims. ;)
Jon Klinkel Barry Sanders is the best running back of all time if he would have played even 2 more years he would have had more yard than emit smith
@@robertcrawford7585 You realize what you just said validates my argument. I say William Andrews and Billy Sims could both have been the NFL's All-Time Leading Rushers. If they hadn't gottten hurt, they'd both have more yards than Emmitt Smith AND Barry Sanders (even if he hadn't retired early). No, Barry Sanders is NOT the greatest running back in history. Not even in the Top-5.
Jon Klinkel You can’t possibly think that Billy sims would make the top 5
@@robertcrawford7585 When he played, he was as good as anyone - ever.
@@robertcrawford7585 William Andrews, Billy Sims, Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Walter Payton - not necessarily in that order.
boomer!
sooner!!!
meh - just another one of cheatin' barry swindler's ineligible players.
Loser!!! You must be a husker fan! hahahahaha A REAL loser for sure.
He's gone. Good bye.
