A 6 hour game that is good from beginning to finish is better than a longer game that overstays its welcome. Smartest thing I've ever heard from IGN. I'm downloading this now, but good review.
He says that it being short isn't too bad and then lowers the score because of it? I'm happy with the length, I probably wouldn't fully play it if it was over 10 hours
I think it was the perfect length for what was in it. There wasn't a heavy plot to carry it any longer and with this type of gameplay it's very linear so you can't really keep people's attention for any longer than the game's length to be honest. Definitely deserves its score though and hopefully Inside can fill the story and game mechanics gap that Limbo forgivably lacked somewhat.
This game is absolutely one of the most beautiful video games I have ever seen. I can definitely call it a game of the year! It even inspired me to write a horror story! It is truth that this game is violent, but all the screenshots make me give it an attribute of 'dying beauty', something very beautiful, mystic and inspiring that leaves us wanting more while vanishing in abyss of no return. And the music is unique. 'Limbo' is absolutely the best game in last 3 years.
This game holds a very special place in my heart....didnt play it untill 2021 but that just shows how much of a timeless classic this game is....I can relate my real life to this game in so many ways
I'd say that the shortness of the game actually helps the game to be more accessible. It lets a gamer fully experience the overall game without overstaying its welcome or getting in the way of other games or life events.
I love this game. I played the demo today and I seriously can't wait to download the full version. tt's so different and challenging and makes you think more than other games of today do. I agree with the guy in the video, that a short amazing game is much better than a long, boring one with good graphics. LIMBO is definatly one of my all time favourites.
After seeing a giant spider I expected more creepy monsters but that's just it. I enjoyed the game but lack of monsters and the ending kinda disappointed me.
No game has ever made human existence feel more claustrophobic. Such a poignant ending, it left me feeling depressed in a sort of beautiful and haunting way. This is the kind of art that makes you want to dream for eternity.
He said "A short game that is amazing from start to finish is better than a longer one that overstays it's welcome". He just said that it being short is good.
I'm a literature student and have been looking for a game that holds the same qualities as good literature, something playable that I could call art. This may sound douchy and pretentious, but I feel this is as haunting, elegant and annoyingly short as my favourite poems, and I'm truly proud to share nationality with the developers.
"You'll be hooked the entire 5 to 6 hours it takes to reach the end. While this may sound short, I'd say a short game that's amazing from start to finish is better than a longer one that overstays its welcome" (This comment indicates that being a good short game is a positive) Meanwhile... + Beautiful + Clever Puzzles + Great Audio - Short
+Yu Narukami Yeah well if you're good you can just bypass all that using the secret level skip, admittedly it's absolute horror of game design and will terrify you the first time you attempt to beat it, but It skips the majority of the anti-gravity stuff.
I love this game, the grey eerie graphics and the overall atmosphere is truly felt in this game, I had a blast playing it, one of the best platforming games I ever have played.
it started out strong with a good horror atmosphere and enemies but then halfway through.. drops the enemies/horror and replaces it with annoying trial and error puzzles. this game is NOT a 9, more like a 6 .
Apart from an abrupt ending, limbo is the best 2d platformer I have ever played. It's art style, it's atmosphere and it's gruesome depiction of death results in an incredibly immersive and haunting world that enforces a great sense of loneliness and despair.
It is without a doubt on my top ten games of all time. It captured me the moment I played it, and the only game on xbox live that I bought from a trial straight away.
The pacing for the game is just fine. The first half was the setup it had "life" to draw you into the world and as you go deeper it becomes devoid of "life" (kids > insects/creatures > machinery) and then comes full circle. Its a great game and It takes me back to those golden days of gaming, and when I first played OUT OF THIS WORLD and FLASHBACK and I highly recommend these to games if you enjoyed Limbo.
@JSasRays yeah thought id retry the game with a stopwatch going, die a bunch just like i always do, stopwatch ended at 1 hour 17 minutes and some seconds when credits rolled.
the cutsences is what make the game longer or other gamplay, can you imegn how short ff7 will be without the turn based combat ( sorry for my bad english)
Love the game, just finished it and though i longed for more, i agree to the statement that it just shows how much you enjoyed it while it lasted :) I'm also proud of the game creators, it makes me happy that a danish game that doesn't have fancy graphics or outstanding gameplay can still get reviews with almost nothing but positive feedback, and still really deserve those scores and the feedback :)
@ClimbingFlame For the PSN it's definitely coming on July 19th in the US and the 20th for Europe. They've yet to announce for parts of Asia. You may check out the announcement on Playstation's blog from the end of the week of July 8th; just type "Limbo PSN" into your favorite search engine--should be one of the top results (Ask.com in particular).
I still don't understand why they played off the fact that it was short but then subtracted from it's score. Maybe they felt that even though they didn't want it to overstay it's welcome it could have definitely fit in some more levels?
everything about this game is perfection, the way you can turn off all the lights have a joint to soak in everylittle thought and detail to this magnificant world. and ofcorse the title itself LIMBO has a deep meaning to this game. if you also think this then you know a game when u see one
Wow, it's weird but good weird. Comes out 2nd August on Steam so im going to pick that up :D along with From Dust on the 17th. Can someone tell me how much the PS3 verstion is in £? maybe able to get a good idea what the price maybe on Steam
@PeachFuz It looks like Braid. I'm not sure if i want to get it if it's to much like Braid cause i bought that game because i heard how good it was and Just felt frustrated.
this review is a quick, punchy and accurate description of the game! good stuff IGN. this game really is spectacular, and the ending, pheewwwwwww, i was touched and speechless. simple, but really beautiful and moving A 9.0 rating almost seems conservative here
**SPOILERS** Those wondering about the ending, it seems like he ended up at the beginning where he started, he's doomed to keep finding his sister over and over again. After the credits you see the main menu, there are 2 bodies surrounded by flies, which implies that both of them are dead.. im confused
A 6 hour game that is good from beginning to finish is better than a longer game that overstays its welcome. Smartest thing I've ever heard from IGN. I'm downloading this now, but good review.
indeed
More like 2-3 hours. But still
This is a 3hr game...
I don't think 5-6 hours is short for an indie side scroller.
SMB
IWBTG
+Pissed Sword Master I don't know, are those longer or shorter?
Charles Preston i think longer
i wanna be the guy and smb can take days to beat
When I got that spider, i was playing in the dark, with headphones. Scared the living shit outta me.
He says that it being short isn't too bad and then lowers the score because of it? I'm happy with the length, I probably wouldn't fully play it if it was over 10 hours
ddnt have a backbone to give it a 10
this game was a masterpiece
So true
Still
Who came here after "inside" game
Me lol 😆
haha
You did
I jusy saw jim sterling playing inside and because i dont have neither an xboxone or a good pc i m trying out limbo .
+Konstantinos Merikakis just*
wtf? You stated that it is okay that the game is short, yet you listed it in the cons of the final verdict.
Just cause it's tolerable doesn't mean it can't detract from the package.
These people are hacks idk what their metric is to review games like these. How long should a indie side scroller be? Ugh dumb
I think it was the perfect length for what was in it. after playing "Inside" I can't wait for their next game.
"So what do you actually do im Limbo?" "Well you die a lot." Sounds about right haha. I love this game.
This is IGN's 26th favorite modern game
This is classic game
I love the whole atmosphere of this game, at some points I was really scared.
Amazing game, 10/10, hands down!
This game holds a very special place in my heart....didnt play it untill 2021 but that just shows how much of a timeless classic this game is....I can relate my real life to this game in so many ways
"Which makes your motivations clear- You need to get the HELL out of there!"
I lol'd x]
This, for me, is a well done review, short, objective and concise.
Back then when IGN has a common sense for reviews
I'd say that the shortness of the game actually helps the game to be more accessible. It lets a gamer fully experience the overall game without overstaying its welcome or getting in the way of other games or life events.

A closer camera, focusing the player and some great graphics would be awesome to this game
After seeing a giant spider I expected more creepy monsters but that's just it. I enjoyed the game but lack of monsters and the ending kinda disappointed me.
There is the giant mosquito tho
Play Alien Isolation
No game has ever made human existence feel more claustrophobic. Such a poignant ending, it left me feeling depressed in a sort of beautiful and haunting way. This is the kind of art that makes you want to dream for eternity.
I seriously want to play this. So cute and yet disturbing. So much mystery in the plot. Kinda like Oddworld meets Silent Hill meets Mario.
He said "A short game that is amazing from start to finish is better than a longer one that overstays it's welcome". He just said that it being short is good.

- Short
The story is about a boy who doesn't understand why he is in limbo, and why his sister died. Next time actually read the game description.
he said it being short is a strength during the review but then puts it as a negative at the end. it's appropriate length given it's PSN/XBL status
"It's one of my favorite games, ever." 9.0 Um, ok. lol.
***** I agree, I love Daemon Hatfield. He's possibly my favorite IGN Editor.
True, would you recommend this game even if im not into horror? because the style of this game does look so amazing :)
Not a fan of all the anti-gravity stuff in the last third of the game.
+Yu Narukami Yeah well if you're good you can just bypass all that using the secret level skip, admittedly it's absolute horror of game design and will terrify you the first time you attempt to beat it, but It skips the majority of the anti-gravity stuff.
2 dollars on switch now !! Buy it , it’s a masterpiece. Just finished it it in 6 hours, it was worth every second !
This game reminds me of Abe's Odyssey. I love the Abe's series ;)
@warriorofthedarknes There is no soundtrack playing in the demo. Only in the full game :)
2019 anyone?
@MrN0AH Are you sure it's the 19th? I read someplace that it was august 2nd :p
currently this game is free on steam!!!
Oh yes it is! Nice!
This is one of the best downloadable titles ever to be created, next to journey and world of goo.
Damn everyone in these comments seems smart
I love this game, the grey eerie graphics and the overall atmosphere is truly felt in this game, I had a blast playing it, one of the best platforming games I ever have played.

"Don't let the short length keep you from experiencing this achievement. It belongs in everybody's clutch." THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
It's like a David Lynch film!
Could be the black and white atmosphere but yeah...I'm kinda getting an Eraserhead kind of vibe :D
Apart from an abrupt ending, limbo is the best 2d platformer I have ever played. It's art style, it's atmosphere and it's gruesome depiction of death results in an incredibly immersive and haunting world that enforces a great sense of loneliness and despair.
You can try hollow knight! You would love it. Not to take anything away from limbo. Just saying you should try out this masterpiece as well!
@@ahmedimtiaz9234 Played it a couple of years ago, was a fun time, still waiting on Silksong
@@JHawke1 same
Just finish the game.
Cons: too short
Pros: everything else
It is without a doubt on my top ten games of all time. It captured me the moment I played it, and the only game on xbox live that I bought from a trial straight away.
5-6 hr ? liar
Less? 3-4 maybe?
Jason A around 3hr from what I remember.
yeah it took me around 3 hours and 45 mins
Took me 3 and a half hours.
@triplestep1829
Are you wrong like this all the time, or just this once?
Just got the demo, this is so slick. I love the design and how eerie it is. When I died from the bear trap it shocked me!
@CrystalCassiopea How much time did it took you to finish it ? i just bought it, and im afraid of its length
is there any action in the game beside avoiding traps and solveing puzzules?
@YsoSerious77 how do you have a slim and not a 250 gig hardrive? got it used? lol
1:47
“I like ya cut g”
@vipercccp its on XBLA only i think. im not sure but the reviewer did specify it was on xbox live.
This, Shadow Complex, or Portal Still Alive? Which game should I get? Like which game is longer or has better replaybility?(Can only get one!!)
Is this xbox only? please tell me, cause man this game looks more that amazing
So is @Samoutuomas So ive just finished Journey, is Limbo about the same length and as great?
The pacing for the game is just fine.
The first half was the setup it had "life" to draw you into the world and as you go deeper it becomes devoid of "life" (kids > insects/creatures > machinery) and then comes full circle. Its a great game and

id like to play it but 15 is kind of expensive for a short game. how long is it?
what songs did IGN used? i never any of them when i was wacthing the walkthroughs vid
I think I have decided which game to get next on steam
@Egovillain The ending was meant to leave it up to you to think of what happened, and the fact that there was no music makes it more mysterious
This game is an masterpiece, I love it, an also this game have very good sound.
@7CellarDoors It's coming on Steam and PSN. :D
What is the name of the music that is being played in the beginning of the game?
EnigMaestrOxide I think it's just an original soundtrack.
Im on the fence about this game. Is it really worth 15 dollars?
did he say that its length wasnt an issue then mark the game down for it?
does anybody know the name of the music that is playing throughout this review??
@JSasRays yeah thought id retry the game with a stopwatch going, die a bunch just like i always do, stopwatch ended at 1 hour 17 minutes and some seconds when credits rolled.

Just finished it for the first time. Great stuff. It's like a grim "Journey" in how short it is, but the impact it leaves.
I love this game. It's very deep, but beautiful! And the graphics don't need to be enhanced, they're fine just the way they are! ^.^
What's the piano called at the start of the review?
everything about this game is perfection, the way you can turn off all the lights have a joint to soak in everylittle thought and detail to this magnificant world. and ofcorse the title itself LIMBO has a deep meaning to this game. if you also think this then you know a game when u see one

@lunadanny57 why, because you don't kill anyone you see in realistic graphics?
@Gravix020619 How the hell do you get a game where you have to go under a stick from the edge of hell???

does anyone happen to know the name of the background music?
0:06 - 0:10 what song or instrument is in the background?
Approximately how long is limbo?
what should i get this or the assassins creed add on??
this review is a quick, punchy and accurate description of the game! good stuff IGN. this game really is spectacular, and the ending, pheewwwwwww, i was touched and speechless. simple, but really beautiful and moving
A 9.0 rating almost seems conservative here
@JonHakkers Oh btw, upgrading a computer can be 300 dollars or less, the price of a console.
when will it be released for PC?
**SPOILERS**
Those wondering about the ending, it seems like he ended up at the beginning where he started, he's doomed to keep finding his sister over and over again. After the credits you see the main menu, there are 2 bodies surrounded by flies, which implies that both of them are dead.. im confused
did it already come out ???
Is the PS3 version shorter? I died LOTS of times but completed it in less than two hours..
@aewilson95 Pulls the crate back to the trees. There is a vine, jump on the crate then jump onto the vine.
The rest should be explanatory.
Someone? Whats the song at the beginning of the review?
