Birmingham's Peter Pan 4* REVIEW - A Fresh Take or the Same Old?

- It's the second biggest pantomime production in the UK, Birmingham Hippodrome's production of Peter Pan has one of the biggest most lavish sets, effects, and costumes in pantoland, straight from the London Palladium. With a very similar Peter Pan story to other crossroads venues, this show went down a treat with audiences, however I felt wasn't as good as last years spectacular of Jack and the Beanstalk, as Alison was in that show much more. Matt Slack has some incredible routines for this year, same for Andrew Ryan who is included much more in this show. His costumes are straight from the Palladium not really suited to a dames frock.

Following a triumphant season last year, and by popular demand, Birmingham’s own Alison Hammond returns to Birmingham Hippodrome’s panto, this year leading the cast as The Magical Mermaid!
Alison joins Hippodrome panto star and award-winning comic Matt Slack, who returns for an eleventh season as Smee, star of stage and screen Danny Mac as Captain Hook, resident dame Andrew Ryan and Billie-Kay who returns for a second year as Tink!
They will be joined by Rhiannon Chesterman as Wendy, and Noah Harrison in the title role of Peter Pan.
With amazing special effects, stunning sets and beautiful costumes direct from The London Palladium, Peter Pan will take your whole family on a magical trip to Neverland like never before!

What did you think to Brum's 2024 Peter Pan?
Just got back from my showing today and it was incredible. Matt’s performance was perfect and kept the whole audience laughing all night
I watched this on Tuesday with my class and it’s a 10/10 it must if took years to make the set
I was actually there and the mermaid I forget her name was dribbling on the stage she was laughing so much and she accidentally threw her crabs during the song they were doing

now i know most people wont agree with what im going to say but it is one of the worst one theyve done in a while. but it is a positive that matt has done a newish routine that people wont remember by the flag routine. {performed in last peter pan 2018} i think alison hammond needs to be dropped as she has no singing capabiliaty which is what the pantos are leading to especially with them saying that shes in it next year. I know crossroads over the years have made thier own story lines up but compare it to 7 years where they had the timbuktu tumblers as the neverland children. But are we forgetting they had alisson do the same entrance as last year by doing a tiktok routine as her entrance. I think billey kay as tinkerbell is something we havent had at the hippodrome especially with her vocals so it would be pleasant to see her back next year. Andrew as the dame would be brilliant as he is a hippodrome favourite especially as hes gone through so much the past months and still puts on a brilliant show. I think doreen wouldve been brilliant but fair play to cross roads i dont think they couldve given her a role this year round. Matt when i went to see this show really struggled to get the audience involved as most of the circle still had tickets unsold but he still goes out and gives a 100% performance. Danny mac as hook was an interesting one as i was expecting a bigger role but the bits he had he portrayed them brilliantly.
@jadonquinn1453 I think it’s hard to write new content with the same main star (alision) back for another year. The TikTok didn’t flow this year. Andrew was top form and Matts routines are flourished, even if they do feel samey. Next year’s robin hood will be interesting as it hasn’t been done in Brum for some time.
Why do you keep critiquing the previous years production at the London Palladium? Your suppose to be reviewing the Hippodrome! In the edinburgh we have had the same top of the bill for 25 years! And it just keeps getting better!
@@brettherriot4114 Some routines were the same as the palladiums, so similar review. The pantomime was great hence 4* review. But in some elements felt similar to previous years at the hippodrome.
@ my argument remains the same, i review theatre professionally and trust me crossroads use many of the same routines around the country, but you must review the panto that your watching ie Birmingham hippodrome constantly comparing it to the palladium is unfair. As that show was created for Birmingham alone. Im glad you enjoyed the show though!

looks good seeing it in 2 weeks time and the car looks to be same system as the musical delorian finale in back to the future
Also going to see one in Tamworth that starts I think it’s this week or next week we go every year not high budget but it’s a nice panto
