If a man has no kids, is able to, and wants kids then he should NOT date single mothers. We shouldn’t reward somebody for messing their life up (in most cases) THE SINGLE MOTHERS NEED TO BE WITH THEIR BABY’s FATHER. Thats who they chose. IT SETS AN EXAPLE FOR THE NEXT WOMEN TO COME! i was raised in a divorced household, my mother had 4 kids by 2 different men and my brothers father played step dad when we were younger and he wound up dipping out due to reasons idk to this day. But long story short don’t let them fool you, these women benefit way more havin these sucker dudes in the household then the other way around.

I was born in the sixties . Up until the mid 80’s woman who had children out of wedlock were shamed and ostracized. Back then, women who had children without fathers were grateful for any decent man to court them seriously. People used to value traditional families.
This topic is so one-sided in the sense that most Black women who give birth to babies out of wed lock are impregnated by Black men. If almost 80 percent of Black children are born out of wedlock, then Black men are the problem too. There used to be a time in our community when Black men were also shamed for getting a woman pregnant and not marrying the woman. I agree that we have normalized out-of-wedlock births in the Black community, but men need to be held accountable as well.

The only way I could see taking any part in raising some else kids is as like a mentor, coach, or something like that where you can be a role model, but you are not financially on the hook for them.

I dated a women with 2 kids when I was in my 20s. Back in the 80s. I never did it again. It was difficult and humiliating. Two different fathers that didn't contribute financially but, wanted to see their kids when they wanted. It was ok for me to shell out money for them. Buy clothing, furniture and food. Babysat, took them to school. But , didn't have a say so on how to discipline the kids or dealing with their fathers. Glad I got an early lesson on it. Never, never again.

The culture has truly changed. I was surprised when I realized years ago that NYC public schools allow pregnant students to attend school. The teacher's college that I attended in Jamaica did not allow pregnancy out of wedlock on campus. The public schools in Jamaica were largely founded by churches so they still adhere to those Christian principles.

Tried to help my 9 year old niece. Her mother passed away. Father wasn’t around. We had her come live with us . one day when she came home from school. I told her what she was doing was wrong she said uncle. You can’t tell me what do. She then said her teacher told her if I hit her she can call the police on me and have me locked up. This was around 25 years ago.

I just saw a video on Facebook this morning, where a brother was putting a woman and her kids out of his house because she had a man in his house while he was at work and her older kids Were so disruptive that his landlord had to keep coming to his house about the noise complaints.
44 this year and I’ve made that point in several comment threads, I was almost married, was with her for 8 years, my daughter is 25 engaged to be married. While I will never “not” date a woman with kids, the issue is a lot of them DO want you to take on that financial load, we talking 2-4 small kids by other men. A single mother can get on the internet and tell the world a man has to pay for the babysitter if they want to date her (and there will be men who will do it too). No single father can do the same thing unless its part of his comedy routine. That alone is why dating a single father is not the same as dating a single mother.

If that child goes to school and lies about mistreatment or abuse, you now have a damaged reputation, have to defend yourself against child services, have the mother looking at you side-eyed, and risk the possibility of facing jail time because you disciplined the child. As someone who has dated women with kids. A lot of them shamed me for not having kids. Somehow being responsible was viewed as bad to them. A lot of these women are warped in the head.

You also must remember prior to the 1980s the majority of women with children in the Black Community were married. There just weren’t as many single mothers as today, so a “few” men were willing to marry a single mother. But that can’t be the situation for the majority of the women to have children as a single mother and expect to get married. I dated a women with 2 kids when I was in my 20s. Back in the 80s. I never did it again. It was difficult and humiliating. Two different fathers that didn't contribute financially but, wanted to see their kids when they wanted. It was ok for me to shell out money for them. Buy clothing, furniture and food. Babysat, took them to school. But , didn't have a say so on how to discipline the kids or dealing with their fathers. Glad I got an early lesson on it. Never, never again.

I just saw a video on Facebook this morning, where a brother was putting a woman and her kids out of his house because she had a man in his house while he was at work and her older kids Were so disruptive that his landlord had to keep coming to his house about the noise complaints.
44 this year and I’ve made that point in several comment threads, I was almost married, was with her for 8 years, my daughter is 25 engaged to be married. While I will never “not” date a woman with kids, the issue is a lot of them DO want you to take on that financial load, we talking 2-4 small kids by other men. I prefer them to have older kids, I’ll be nice, treat them well and respectfully, but I’m not making myself financially responsible for them simply cause I’m a parent.

It takes away time and resources from your own children. A single mother can get on the internet and tell the world a man has to pay for the babysitter if they want to date her (and there will be men who will do it too). No single father can do the same thing unless its part of his comedy routine. That alone is why dating a single father is not the same as dating a single mother.
I am 38 and don't have children and it is amazing how many women with children approach me out of desperation because things didn't work out with the babies daddy, I am not a spare part or a left over.
Damn, no one is talking about the liability of being a step father. If that child goes to school and lies about mistreatment or abuse, you now have a damaged reputation, have to defend yourself against child services, have the mother looking at you side-eyed, and risk the possibility of facing jail time because you disciplined the child. You also must remember prior to the 1980s the majority of women with children in the Black Community were married. There just weren’t as many single mothers as today, so a “few” men were willing to marry a single mother. But that can’t be the situation for the majority of the women to have children as a single mother and expect to get married. If only 5% of men are willing to marry a single mother and 70% of the women fit that description you wouldn’t have many marriages. That’s the difference between the past and now.
