Those 5 testers mentioned in video had to check whole city map in just one night after last engine change and they did like 99% of it. Unfortunately, next morning one of the brother stumbled into a bug in one of the back alleys. That led to firing one of the testers. 4. Game was never tested on multiple servers. On launch servers got overloaded and server logic just died, stopping spawning zombies. 5. Next day they would come and ask: have you thought it through? Have you fixed it? You did it all wrong. I don`t like it.
jesus, that's the worst work place ethic I've ever heard of. I do hope the devs and team learnt something from this though, at least they got the experience now.

I feel bad for all the developers and innocent people involved that were stuck there by false promises. I hope they will sue these horrific brothers for everything they have.
I don't and I smell bs. The developers hired clearly did nothing at all. Even a single guy recreated some of the game in less than 4 hours. If anything every single person involved in the creation of the day before, including the brothers. Should be banned from the internet and banned from ever making a video game ever again. Complete exile to these disgusting people.
@@NcrXnbi Bro, I was a part of the team for a year(character artist). They worked 6 days a week and some guys' salaries were 400-500$ a month. They were fed lies just like the players. in 2022 when I was sure it was a scam I left, but the rest of the team kept believing in the game. The fntastic owners screwed the employees over in the first place. Because they wasted several years on nothing.
@@NcrXnbi Just because the final product has no content doesn't mean the developers didn't make content while working for the company. It may have been mis-management, inexperience with leading game development, or over-estimating scope; but that doesn't mean that a released product is entirely indicative of how much effort a dev team put in. By the sounds of it, only 10% of their work actually made it into the game and they had to keep re-creating things based on the whims of management. I give the devs the benefit of the doubt that they worked hard and were abused by narcissistic founders.
I have never heard anything more ILLEGAL in my life! Employees being held against there will, no showering and barely eating.... inhumane working conditions. My god. They should be in prison
Well, actually this would just only mean those employees would just have to choose between slave labor or be sent to ukranian front ... @@ardynamberglow3124
That's what I think about this. Somebody was getting SOMETHING from not investigating/ not reporting. I wouldn't be terribly suprised if we eventually figure out that the scammers were Mytona employees using company dollars to prop up the game development and pay for travel/ expenses for the brothers while shielding people from the truth
Fntastic was formed here in town where I live, in Yakutsk. Former employees who worked there often complained how they were putting hours like slaves. And if they would say smthg against Eduard and Aysen Gotovsevs, former heads of Fntastic, they would be fired instantly. Many of them quit due to stress. I think what happened to the game and these Gotovsevs, they 100% deserved it. Back in 2017 I personally wanted to join Fntastic as a sound designer or a composer. They declined. Now I am happy they did.
Wow! As a developer myself, I'm infuriated that the brothers abused developers in such a degree. I'm sure there are many talented people who, after this horrific work experience, will never work on a game ever again (and possibly leave software development altogether). The games industry will be poorer without them. Though I haven't had a boss _this_ toxic, I have had my share of bosses and clients with impossible demands as well as changed requirements all the time. It's exhausting to constantly have to redo everything. Eventually, one doesn't care about quality because one knows that it probably will have to be redone soon, anyway.
"Eventually, one doesn't care about quality because one knows that it probably will have to be redone soon, anyway." That's such an overlooked aspect to a situation like this. Well said.
I have my fair share of abusive employers and I really the brothers just are brought to justice. At this point, i do hope some content creators were acknowledged for their efforts they poured in. I could empathize due to the fact i had a bad start in my career as well.
Yup, this is where I'm at as a Product Designer in the tech world. I don't want to do my job anymore and I'm trying to pivot to something else. I'm tired of all the things you mentioned. This field has defeated me and made me jaded about people as a whole.
@@jiohnne I'm pretty sure they are Russian. Remember that Russia is huge. People who live in eastern Russia, like these two who come from Siberia, have very similar features to those who come from China, Mongolia, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam etc.
"The ends justify the means" from a group who compares themselves to Hideo Kojima is very much a microcosm of AAA gaming over the past 10-15 years. It's quite sad this form of art has been hijacked.
Kojima comes up with some weird crap, but the guy is a full original creative. All these guys did was literally try and copy everything else they saw. The amount of narcissism it would take for these guys to think themselves comparable...
The fact that theres someone recreating this game on x and even already have melee in goes to show you how much of a scam these guys were throwing our way.
@@darthediot4369 Most def. Either way though I hope someone else legit and competent fills the void The Day Before’s failure left. There’s clearly a market out there for a 3rd person RPG urban based survival game.
@@darthediot4369 Putting together the basic game concept wouldn't be difficult, but actually turning it into a real MMO or real content would be a lot of work that I doubt he'd bother with unless people are donating funds to him.
What a great move too, even if he doesn’t put out a product he’s getting all this free publicity just from having a better working prototype than what the fntastic shills released
Kinda like that one game Sony was promoting, Abandoned, or w/e where the dev heavily implied Kojima involvement somehow and that couldnt have been further from the truth.
So they have to be punished just for covering the "game" in a news story? Their job is to literally cover video games. Good, bad, and ugly. I hate the coverage these gaming "journalists" give just as much as the next guy, but they are not the ones to blame for this scam. Don't shoot the messenger. Like damn, bro, IGN and others didn't do anything but write articles about it. Even if you could tell it was a scam, not everyone is paying attention so closely. As you can see, the brothers tried to keep the scam a secret and it wasn't confirmed to be a real scam until the game released. Why attribute fault to people that didn't maliciously intend to deceive? Fntastic did that. They lied. They deceived. And they cheated and abused to pull off the scam. This is not a defense of anyone in particular. Just articulating the bigger picture. Not only were gamers scammed, but they scammed everyone across the board. This is such a shame because the concept alluded by The Day Before has the potential to become huge. Oh well, maybe in the future a legitimate dev studio and publishing house will give it the proper game it deserves.
What are you talking about? The reason we know this was not meeting deadlines was specifically because of IGN. They were the ones who kept releasing information saying that Fntastic did not meet expectations again and again. It's all public knowledge, just google it.
I hope that the brothers are going to get sued. After all the info that was released over the past couple weeks and from what we knew and suspected prior with all the drama... They deserve to be brought into the light and justice to be served
Comments like this really remind me of how good we have it in the west compared to Russia, where the Fntastic bros live. There they will face absolutely no consequences at all. Hell, they're probably applauded for scamming money out of the "evil degenerate westerners."aä
@@My_Old_YT_Account that isnt true though. Steam gives you 2 hrs of play time to return or 2 weeks time. They are making an exception for the day before at the request of the publisher. I love that steam lets anyone create and sell a game but they lack any kind of quality assurance or certification system. As much money as valve makes of ofsteam games they could afford to hire or create a quality assurance.
1:52 As a former Fntastic Volunteer I always wondered why they did a near-complete overhaul of Propnight. We complained about that so much. To have an answer feels like a puzzle piece finally falling into place.
It's a shame given that in the start of things that despite some of the imbalance Propnight was very fun and had alot of potential to be great in it's own right.
Man I have to say this whole situation was everything I hoped it would be. Ever since the first speculation started I knew this is pretty much how it would end up going. But I ended up being even better. This “game” is literally just copied things from other companies then slightly changed and then crammed together in the mess. The more I look at videos of the game literally almost everything is a copy of something else
I’m not sure you could find one thing in this game, anywhere, that’s original. Even the names of businesses are literally just copied from real names with a letter changed. It’s the laziest development I’ve ever in a game. I had a feeling it would be bad, and even this has exceeded my expectations.
Like he said, the brothers played a game, then told the actual devs to make the game like that. There was 500 gig of code that gone to oblivion, which is sad.
I also fully expected this outcome, but I would never hope for it. The best case scenario was I was completely wrong and the survival mmo they promised was released and amazing. Idk why you would hope for this outcome, it fucking sucks...

If you watched any of those eerie "dev videos" with the soulless brothers staring into the camera smiling like they just ate a baby and you STILL gave them money... well... that's on you, dawg.
Employees being held against their will, not being able to eat, not being able to shower, forced to work 18h days, getting fired for doing what they were told... These guys should be in jail. And mytona should make a public apology as well. if not, imo they were complicit, or it was a shell company indirectly owned by those guys.
Money. IGN and NVidia didn’t “fall” for anything. They took money being offered to them to help promote something they didn’t bother to look into. Because once they get paid who cares right
I knew this was a scam over a year ago. Even told a streamer on Twitch it was a scam and he told me and the viewers "people like you say it's a scam, but I'm trying it out anyway." Feel bad for anyone who got fooled by these 2 wicked brothers. They should be sued and thrown in jail for what they did to their employees.
As someone who has been watching this whole saga from the sidelines for years, this has been hugely entertaining. Shout out to Kira, he's been warning everyone that this is a scam for years.
It sounds like the brothers would get a random shower thought every day and demand it be put into the game, then immediately change their mind after it was implemented. I've heard of other studios with similar leadership keeping "backups" that they would work on while feeding their leaders bogus builds to show them how dumb their ideas were.
It's nice to see that since my time with Propnight Ed and Aisen are still as big of pieces of shit now as they were then. I'm glad that it's least coming out into the public how they treat their devs like shit.

I really hope someone nails these guys to the wall over fraud via their various offices in different locales, or false advertising. Yes, Ubisoft completely bullshotted those Division and Watch_dogs trailers, but a game came out that resembled them visually, and featured - albeit lesser - versions of the mechanics they tried to show off, with a few exceptions. This is just from toe-to-tip NOTHING of what they showed in their trailers, and admitted to be completely fabricated to fool investors and partners.
The Russian judicial system won't care as long as they have made sure to take care of their local government officials financially. They made 3 mio. USD on launch day so they have had plenty of cash to bribe people with. I am 99% sure they will never face consequenses from the government.
Honestly these 2 need to be brought to justice. For all the shitshow they put young devs looking to fill up their resume. To those people I gotta say don’t give up, and use this as a weapon on your future projects. Even from shitty situations like this you get to learn something (mostly, how to NOT do things, and set expectations yourself). As for the brothers. Whatever they release again, people should stay tf away and let them sink in every single try they do. And if anything, I hope everywhere they show their face they will be looked down and made fun of, in their face. And ffs, I hope the devs can gather enough proof to bring them to justice. They got away with a huge sum of cash, and they apparently will give it another go, even though I am not too sure anyone who respects himself will go again. Bad thing is they will pray upon those in need of the money so…
Right? I was sceptical about the game but as soon as i saw those faces i swear i saw scam written all over it, ever since i knew 100% that this game was garbage and removed it from wishlist and was waiting for the day of release so i can the reaction of players who trusted these two
True. You can't trust them when it comes to high scores, at the very least. Anything above a 7 is questionable, with them. But when it comes to anything lower than a 5? They tend to follow suit with the rest of the outlets/users.
As someone who worked in a studio like this as a first job they always make it feel like it's your fault and that these changes are normal. You can get approval and then when you finish get chewed out for being so stupid
As a 3d artist, I wouldn't have stuck around those working conditions. I am by no means a veteran, and love new experience points to level up as an artist, but these conditions put in place by the Brothers Fantastic are far too Grimm to swallow. Heck no. Listen, kudos to the artists, I don't care where the assets were purchased, I don't care what assets were original or not, I think the environment that we see in-game is still very impressive and well designed. Good on ya'll. And of course good on the coders that put in the rough time too. I hope everyone learns from this.
I don't know about you guys, but if my bosses "locked me in the studio" it wouldn't be long before I was on the phone to the police. Being complicit in illegal activity voids you the right to object to it later...
I don't believe for a moment that two dorky, incompetent kids locked a room full of developers in a building and wouldn't let any of them leave. How? Through threats of violence? My six year old could take them. If anyone tried that at the place I work at the management would be laughed out the room. Seriously - just spend two minutes thinking about it. On what planet would this be realistic? Anyone would just stand up and say "nah mate, I'm off" Sounds to me like they're making excuses for the fact none of them came out sooner or quit the studio after they realised they had lied to the public about making an MMO and now they're trying to distance themselves from ownership. Don't get me wrong, the "studio" and game are a complete dumpster fire and I'm sure they were awful to work for but this whole thing is starting to feel milked for more drama than it's worth due to the amount of engagement its generating.
Poor devs that poured their blood, sweat and tears into this. With the amount of source code and time they put in. I wish a different studio could buy the rights to the game and its assets. And make it what it should’ve been. Even if it took a long time.
This is why as gamers, we need to band together and call out these gaming companies that don't give a shit about the player base or their employees. I for one will not be buying anything from them in the future.
First Cyberpunk, then Starfield, now this. What is going on? Are we as people getting dumber and dumber so we cant even make a good game? All we hear are promises but all we get is lies.
Great work putting this all together Buzz! Yet another reminder that companies like Nvidia and IGN are more interested in money than integrity. If we all saw this scam coming a mile away, the only way to miss it is not caring that it's a scam in the first place.
Why aren’t some ex dev having these brother charged with something. Both brothers should be in jail for this scam. Why isn’t steam going after them. They have money and lawyers to shut down the brother for good and be arrested.
But that was the problem, that those 2 kiddos told them every week other plans... We have played game xy we want it this way.. oh now we have played xx, do it now that way... they took trend chasing to the extreme
I just find it so astounding that with a publisher footing the bill for this game and huge corporations putting their reputations on the line to highlight/feature/sell this game, not a single person followed up and said “hold up, something isn’t right here.” You mentioned Mytona, IGN, and NVIDIA, but Steam deserves their fair share of blame as well for allowing this piece of garbage to hit their marketplace and scam people out of their money for it. I hope the developers that were preyed upon find themselves in company that appreciates their talents and cares about their well being, and I can only hope that the internet puts these two brothers out of business. (Though I doubt that last part)
I have just been hovering in the situation since the first trailer, and as a person who called bs from the beginning watching the cope has been surreal.
FNTASTIC is MYTONA. Both companies registered around the same time in the same city in Russia. They're only separate in name, but otherwise the same company of people that run/own FNTASTIC.
@@ЛюблюПиццу-р2ю Nope, dude. Mytona was founded in Yakutsk, Russia in 2012 and has offices in Singapore, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia and Serbia. Mytona is the creator of games Seekers Notes and Cooking Diary and has published the PC game Propnight. Fntastic was founded in Yakutsk, Russia in 2015.
Not disputing this story, but it is fantastical (lol), with minimal to no sourcing in the video, cant tell when its quotes from elsewhere or your opinions.
The fact that the abuse goes back years, over multiple sets of staff and projects, they were supposedly constantly being fired (and then rehired months later), and somehow none of them said “boo” about any of it until now feels a little questionable to me. It’s like it’s taken every “worst company ever” and “crunch is hell” horror story, put them in a blender, turned it to 11, then let it simmer for four years to trot it out when it became convenient. I’m not saying I disbelieve… just that I am incredibly suspect.
@@kaineandrews3790 it's real. I'm from the same city they were located in and they were very infamous around here among junior developers. You can see former developers literally posting in comments confirming it. Turnover was very high and former employees were just unwilling to talk about it, because it's a small town with barely any job opportunities, the IT sector is a circlejerk, and the brothers are well connected. A job where you've only spent a few months before leaving/getting fired for no reason looks bad on resume, so almost everyone I know just left it out. Plus, almost nobody on the team speaks English. From what I know, it's not actually something super surprising in the IT around the world, it's just that most complete trashfire projects like this are smaller startups and people barely hear about them before they implode.
So they are the Gamestop of development studios. Gotcha. But seriously i think alot of these "leaks" are bs damage control. The game was and asset flip and its pretty clear not that much work went into the game.
Sounds like b/S to me. Why would an employee allow themselves to be treated in such a manner? Why would any adult tolerate that? For money? then that is on them...People are willing to do a lot for money. I thought most of the employees were volunteers and they all worked remotely...So where were they locked in at? These brothers and everyone who helped them do this should be ashamed of themselves. IGN has been straight TRASH for years, paid off corporate slaves and Nvidia, i just don't get it...Mytona is a joke, i think its only a shell company created by the brothers. we have no proof for anything do we? no publisher would allow the launch of a game in such a state...And any idiot that does it twice, deserves it... first time, shame on you. second time, shame on me....
I'd like to see a deep dive on the funding provided by the Indonesian government. It was Indonesia, right? They must have also been applying pressure on the brothers to get something out the door. I wonder what that relationship between the gov't and the brothers was like.
When they have to feed their families, how can you blame them? I would definitely have worked for Fntastic if the alternative was far worse. They recruited people from rural areas, people who might not have had many options, and people who didn't know their rights. Morality is cheap when one's desperate.
@@oliver_twistor Frankly - it amazes me that the rural areas had sufficient programmers. Unless the having to learn from scratch wasn't just how the game engine hooked together, but how to code also. . . ??
@@sociallyferal4237 Russia and Eastern Europe in general have extremely lopsided amount of programmers. There are many reasons, better job security, being able to work remotely around the world (especially considering the low salaries in the region compared to the rest of Europe or United States), many universities and schools have strong focus on specifically tech education, and also gaming consoles being a luxury for children, so almost everyone had a PC instead, and it created a generation that was used to tinkering with PC since young age.
@@oliver_twistor yes, they specifically targeted junior developers for that reason, anyone more experienced could afford not to bother with this trash. Juns don't have many job opportunities so the desperate ones just grabbed onto this and couldn't let go.
Well i just hate that these devs are rolling in everyone’s money right now :/ someone please arrest these guys for scamming, stealing, being fake as fuck and wasting everyone’s time…what a mess if they get away with this
I genuinely feel for those developers, that is textbook abuse. They preyed on people with limited options and exploited their passion to get into the industry. Too common a story, sadly.
the problem really isn't with these brothers, or IGN, or Streamers, it for people buying this game,i barely paid any attention to this game, but i was fully aware of the possiblity this was a scam, don't preorder, read multiple reviews, had 200k people done that it would'nt have sold 1 copy.
1. most people have no time to check, they just want to see what's up and have some fun, distracting themselves from work and kids. 2. Fntastic really hyped people up, they lied.
Honestly I wish I did buy it because now I can't even play this trash myself and form my own opinion of it. There are still over 150 people play the game
also, hang on a sec lets not give these devs a free pass. they had a chance to speak up, leak, etc.. they knew the game was bad they knew it was a fake. Like you said 'where is the studio' where did these 'devs' do 18 hours a day? Seems like a sweet way to pass the buck. they all are, top down. no excuses, its all a scam. 'they came to work'? Didnt they lie about their addresses? where did they go to work?
Very interesting. I've always wondered "At what exact point did this game become a scam?" To me they were in way over their head on day 1 and it's a miracle they even pulled off the trailers for Nvidia and the publisher.
Man it’s sad the developers when given command of the game already set a more clear journey and hundreds of content rdy to go but brothers didn’t want that and such a rush, what a shame if developers lead it , we have different more amazing game now😢
One look at them, and knowing their names tells you everything you need to know. They are 100% products of the culture(s) that spawned and harbour them. That’s how those people roll.
i'm waiting for the update about them being sued by each of the companies that got fooled by this scam, then all platforms blacklisting them and any project they touch
I’m confused. There’s so much proof that a ton of the assets and such were merely store bought. What were the devs actually doing for so long if not just plugging assets into the engine as I’ve seen a single person doing on twitter? If one guy has been able to reconstruct much of the game alone, did these devs actually ever exist or was it just the two brothers all along?
Since the devs were merely juniors with little to no experience at all, I think they resorted a lot to store assets because no one rly knew how to make something
Something doesn't add up, so Mytona apparently never checked the progress of the game 'the Day Before', then the game releases as a total disaster and Mytona shuts down the game, only to then reward the brothers with ANOTHER project, this time a mobile game? What?!
Where's Nvidia?where's Steam?Wheres IGN? I wouldve expected these guys to take action or atleast speak up against it.These narcissistic "idea guys" should be held accountable.
Given the conditions these devs had to work under, and the tyrannical rule they had to deal with, what was eventually released almost seems like a miracle.
Bro... Yeah this project was doomed to fail. If my boss locked me in to my office stating "this is how gamedev should be done", I would call the police if they not letting me out.

Fntastic was formed here in town where I live, in Yakutsk. Former employees who worked there often complained how they were putting hours like slaves.
Well it wasn`t just like that. Whole team consisted from juns only. There were lots of thing they had to learn from the ground.

Where's Nvidia?where's Steam?Wheres IGN? I wouldve expected these guys to take action or atleast speak up against it.These narcissistic "idea guys" should be held accountable.
