Trashville won't recognize him because he's REAL.....The MORONS in Nashville wouldn't know great talent if it hit them in the face!!!! RIP Gary.... you were the very best.
He truly had one of the strongest and most clear voices that ever existed. Solid Country Gold. Put him in the Country Music Hall of Fame NOW!!! He was honest, nice, and truly talented. A true legend and an American Treasure. Can't say enuf good things about this man. All of his music was good. Start with "The Essentials" then work your way out from there, you will not be dissapointed.
It passed me by the first time. Then a few years back, I was in Tulsa and they played She's Acting Single on the radio. It hit me like a ton of bricks. That voice! The tremelo in his voice shook me. I wrote the name and the song down and I have bought every thing by Gary I could find...which is by no means enough! Release everything he has done. I want more! Thank you.
I'm a long Gary Stewart fan. What made this man great and still the greatest is his down the earth personality. He was right about Country radio then and still today, the listeners dont get the best music. There too much Business is music.
This is amazing. I have been looking for some kind of video of Gary playing at South By Southwest in 1993 for 16 years! I've got an old scratchy sounding cassette of his set at La Zona Rosa that year, but I had never seen video from it until today. Thank you- this is a Holy Grail for me. It means a lot to me to finally see it, even if it's only for a few seconds.
Saw him twice about this time at a club in Pasadena , Texas called Bushwackers . It was about half a mile down Spencer Highway from where Gilley’s was! My brother and uncle and aunt saw him in his big years at Gilley’s. He was incredible! Sounded so good they said. They said his arm was in cast when they saw him. I take it he didn’t play guitar when they saw him. The first time I saw him I went to the club to do a little Texas Two Step and meet girls. I was in total shock when I got there and the charge to get in was like more than usual . Like maybe 20 dollars . I wasn’t shocked at the price I was shocked when the door guy told me they were charging more because Gary Stewart was playing there tonight. I couldn’t believe it! I had his Greatest hits CD playing in my truck on the way there! Talk about luck. He was amazing . Put on a great show and the crowed loved him. I got right up front dead center . I’m sure he would rather seen a pretty girl there than my ugly ass but I was right there in front of him. Back then you didn’t get to see him much live on TV etc so I had no idea of his live playing style. Best I can describe it was he was wiry . He moved a lot not to move around on stage. It was fascinating. Very unique. I would look at his hands while he played guitar. I was that close. He reminded me of Keith Richards when he plays guitar and sings a song or two in concert for the Stones. Both his shows were so good. I got to talk to him after and shake his hand both times and get his autograph. Unfortunately I lost it over the years. The second time he was there like less than a year later and I knew he was coming and brought a girl who absolutely loved him. We got front row center again! He didn’t disappoint her she said she would never forget it and loved him., RIP Gary Stewart .
so sweet and I played his music over and over again just loved him and still do when I play his songs.a shame there is no good music anymore.all we r left with is bubble gum music if u can call it music
In the top 10 best country artist ever. There will never be another voice like his. He's probably my favorite right beside George Straight & Alan Jackson
Very proud to have opened several shows for Gary, back in mid to late 80's. A couple with my band and several doing a few tunes with Gary's band, The Toman bros. band, from San Antonio!! They were great and still are!! Gary had his share of ups and downs, but all in all, a very genuine, truly talented guy, with a sound unlike any other. Proud I got to know him!! RIP Gary!!

yea he's right about radio, too much biz not enough art,oh yea and for those who didnt notice,he's geeked up pretty good here, but god love him,he was good
Boy Didn't he say tha TRUTH !!!...... "People don't get to hear the Best Music..." The BEST music IS the underground stuff. You take one of Gary's CD's or some other's from Hightone or Lost Highway records and EVERY song on the CD is great ! Unlike most of the big label's so called superstars who only have 1 or 2 good songs out of 15 recordings.
Shannon if you see this your dad was awesome every time he was in Fort Worth we hung around my mama side of the family was Stuarts and I'm killing some of the people in Kentucky my mom used to talk about them being very had a lot of good times at Billy Bob's and Stagecoach Lounge he played up quite frequently but he is a legend in his own time
