I’ve been using these paints for a while now and I say with confidence that they’re the best paints on the market right now. Beautiful paints to use.👌🏻
I got some of these yesterday and I love them. The smell in the bottle is a bit off, but while spraying is OK. It dries super fast, which I like. I didn't have much of a problem with tip dry either. The colours are amazing. you can see they use very vibrant pigment as the colours are beautiful. And they spray dead flat. I'm impressed so far with my first use of the paints, but I have a bit more exprimenting to do before I go getting a whole range of them.
Their olive drab #9/22 has quickly become my go-to color for WWII-era AFV models. I wasn’t happy with it at first, but it’s really grown on me.
Thank you, Andy! I loved how you evaluated these paints with airbrushing, hand brushing and the tape test!
Watched almost all the videos. Some moments have adopted myself when painting models. Thank You.
Thanks for the video on the paints
Great review Andy. AK know what modellers want in regards to choise and the new paints will be suitable for different applications.
Been using these for a few weeks now. They never clog the airbrush. Can also be thinned 50/50 with ultimate thinners. Airbrush easily cleaned with ultimate cleaner or thinners. Dont smell like Tamiya, but I still use a mask as they are lacquer. AK are soon releasing Aircraft colours - bring it on ! Finally, I mix in pots using droppers so I can custom mix for using a paint brush. Great for close up work too.
I watched your video because I am about to use AK paint on my desert babes tornado. Thank you for the review. I’m guessing it will play nice with the Mr. Surfacer 1500 primer.
This designs exceptional! Can't be patient to notice a lot more like this. Great job.
I've used lacquers for years, always Mr Color always but just ordered these. Brought an MRP one too. Looking forward to receiving both. I will say Lacquers are very tough and do take more cleaning up. Highly recommend thinning more than Andy does, makes spraying smoother & prevents tip drying.
Bradley White what’s you’re opinion of the AK Real vs Mr Color. I’ve used Mr color and was thinking’s of jumping into some AK’s.
I love this paint! I'm quickly becoming a total convert. It really holds up well to enamel thinner-based weathering stuff and that's a problem I've had with other brands. It's a lot like Tamiya but even better, it's smoother and more durable.
I find it great to use mr hobby levelling thinner with ak real colors, and tamiya paints aswell. gives it a great flat finish
Great, got some AK paints as well but could not test uo to know, so your video came in right handy. Thank you.
I used their German yellow primer on my E100. Airbrushed straight out of jar and dried quickly. Excellent in my view.
Just sprayed the Tamiya M4a3e8 with their olive drab and it looks great and was very easy to spray.
Good video Andy, Ak Interactive makes really great paint, i use them for all my build.
Great review, these colours look real flat out of the airbrush, have to keep an eye out.
Works grate with mr leveling thinner, can also thin with water and also brush paints nice also..
Andy I really enjoy watching your videos! Would you mind doing a video on how you clean your Iwata air brush for all of us rookies out there? Thanks again for all these great videos they have inspired me!
He shows a little here.

Cool paints, thanks for the painting tutorial. big time help.
Very nice, Andy big thanks for review
Nice video Andy, im a Tamiya fan but its nice to see other products and what they can do to maybe increase your options on colors for our models.
yes I agree
Hey Andy, those paints look interesting. I was hoping you would try brushing with un-thinned paint since the black was streaking a bit with the thinner. Other than that, I'm going to give them a shot and come to my own conclusions. Thanks for the review and cheers to ya!
Am i the only one that smiles when listening to the intro?
Those look like some nice paints! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my, those are lovely paints.
thk for your review, it covered most techniques, especial hand-brush.
Mr Andy ur videos are awesome
Great stuff man.. All very interesting .. Looks like pretty decent paint for sure.. Thanks for sharing.. :)
I ordered some AK Extreme Metal paints based on what I've heard about them. Hopefully they give great results!
Nice. And I'll pick some up. But to be honest I'm getting a little tired of all the new paints that come out . Tamiya sprays the best for me humbrol paints, brushes the best for me. I'm trying to figure out Vallejo paint the air line is great AK box paints German tanks early and so on are good. I'm trying to find one paint company to buy and NEVER look again. ;-)
Impossible the othe guy will always invent a new shiny product that you want to try. Stick to what works is my motto what ever that is
I agree with you, Clayton. The original Humbrol used to be the best model paint manufacturer, with hundreds of colors and dozens of coordinating paint sets.
Back in the 60's and 70's this was the only color used by serious model builders. Sadly, Humbrol now is not even 10% of what it once was.
Ralph Miko
So true. I NEVER had to worry I could start to paint right out of the tin NO thinning. Sad
Clayton McClain I agree. I am staying with Tamiya for acrylics. They spray without an issue an it is easy for me to get. I am giving lacquers a go, but I am using Mr Color, they have a good range and I haven't seen anyone complain about them. I just want a paint that is more rugged. I see Tamiya is also coming out with a lacquer range as well. I guess this is part of Andys buisness so far enough, but you see other guys review a new paint and next they are going to change over and so on. For me a good range of acrylics and a good range of lacquers is all I need so I have options. I am not going to have 6 different brands of paint.
I know that this is an older review, but just to add that the aircraft colours that I've used are the best match to real paint chips that I've come across in readily available paints (in the UK).
Great job Andy! Very helpful.thanks
Andy, wow wow wooow video thanks for videos
Good video, and I have enjoyed all of your videos. I wonder how much of this is just out right marketing. How is their Nato Blck different from Taniyas. Andy, any chance of doing the same video, but also compare against Tamiya and a cople of other manufacturers?
Good info here. Thanks Andy.
I’ve been looking for a lighter shade of olive drab.
I tried to lighten Tamiya’s OD with a dab of flat yellow and I didn’t like the results.
AK might work here.
Andy
I would like to know what about when weathering with washes, pastels, as well as other weathering products?
ak real color are the best! you have to dilute them 1/1 , as you can se your test where microspotty
These are really nice spraying paints you seem to think so yourself so why do you still always use Tamyia paints in all your videos so it just what's mostly In stock or is it a preference of your own?
Hmm. Looks like Mission Model paints have the edge over these. I've never had that splattering problem that Andy had with the Mission Models white.
Nice. Would they happen to have a USCG Orange?
Hi Andy. Wonderful video! I am new to scale modelling and wanted to try out the Vallejo Model Air paints. I just wanted your opinion on the following: 1. Can I use distilled water as a thinner for these paints? 2. Are these paints suitable for handbrushing ( I dont own an airbrush)? 3. How many 1/35 models can I complete with one 17ml bottle of paint? Thanks!
Great video. See you use testors dull cote, me too. But word has it testors is not just discontinuing various model master colors, but everything? ( testors is owned by rustoleum). So what to do? I use not only testors, but humbrol enamel paints, & vallejo acrylics. Thinking of taking on tamiya, especially if testors is gone. Thanks.
The paints dry so fast, hence the cleaning and dry tip issues. Not a big deal, I spray a few drops of thinner and qtip in the airbrush bowl.
A word of advice for these paints. Only use lacquer thinners, preferably their own. It doesn't thin with Ultimate Acrylic Thinners, not very well with X-20A (thinning the whole jar as Andy does here with the AK thinner), and I can't imagine it thinning with distilled water as claimed. AKI has actually removed their old video (where I was misinformed as to what I can thin with) and put up a new one that appears to remove any reference to anything other than lacquer thinners. They've done the same on their site too. Just to be aware if you buy any. I got bit by this misinformation from AK Interactive and have 9 unusable bottles now.
Flory did tests with Mr Hobby Leveling Thinner, Vallejo as well as a bunch of other acrylic thinners, and distilled water. It thinned very well with all of them, though Mr Hobby worked the best and Italeri's very weird acrylic thinner did really well two. Even the distilled water did a great job. Oddly X-20A did a terrible job.

these paints are great. how are their varnishes though?
Hi I've got some of these paints and just wanted to know if I can use a acrylic primer before painting the top layer thanks
How are they with the hairspray chipping method?
Of course it won't clean up with soap and water---it's lacquer based! Good review though!
Andy can I ask when you fill up the paint pot with thinner do you have a rough idea what the ratio might be. And do you ever need to top it up. Thanks Steve
Hello, I'm originally from Brazil and I really like your videos. I bought the model Us M113a2 Desert Ver. like if you already made some video about it. thank you
Hi Andy I have two questions about this product 1.Are they smelly 2.Do you have to use AK thinners or could you thin them with water?
Nice, helpful review, Andy. Thank you! If you know, what EXACTLY is the difference between the regular AK acrylics line and these new Realcolors?
They are nothing alike. Real color is a very different paint. It's not traditional acrylic or lacquer. I'd say it's closer to a low odor lacquer than acrylic.
Hi Andy, I was just wondering if there was any way to buy supplies from you without living nearby? Not a single one of the hobby supply stores within 3 hours of me seems to sell some of the stuff I've seen you demo in your videos.
He told in an older video, that he hasn't the time to do an online-shop beside his brick-and-mortar store and the YT-videos.
Why don't you just:
a) buy at a local hobby-shop near you?, or (if there is none)
b) order online, either on Amazon (they should have a lot of the stuff), or at some other online-hobby-shop?
Depending on where in the world you are, there should be multiple online-shops available (most also deliver worldwide, so...)
Amazon doesn't have a single listing for what I was looking for and the international shipping costs for the item would have been twice as much as the item itself. I ended up settling for an inferior item and hopefully I can make it work.
Well then - I wish you luck!
Erdrick68 try emodels mate
Thank you for the review
did anyone else build the PT-17 trainer made by Revell? it's an amazing model and I suggest it for everyone. plus it looks great
Yes I did, very nice model with yellow wing and aluminum body!
yep
Very impressive
Hey Andy! A fellow hobby shop worker here. I've always loved ak products but have had severe issues sourcing them both for myself or my location. Any insight on how to get a hold of these without paying a kings ransom in middle man fees. Either for myself or my store.
Why don't you contact AK Interactive directly and ask them for their conditions?
Isn't that, what a shopowner is supposed to do, if he wants to sell a (new) brand?
ak-interactive.com/
support@ak-interactive.com
Ollie B you are totally correct! However AK, for us, had some pretty intense conditions for opening an account direct and sort of turned us off and searched us looking for a US based redistributor instead of ordering direct from Spain.
Well, I'm not a shop owner, so I don't know anything about the finer details of getting a sales contract with a manufacturer. But I always assumed, that you buy from the manufacturer for a certain price, which is a good bit lower than the price you demand from your customers. Otherwise you'd make no profit.
And since the price for your customer (aka: the end-customer) can't be too high (because then nobody buys), I assumed, the price for the middleman (in this case: you, resp. your boss) should be pretty acceptable.
If everything fails, and you want their stuff just for yourself...order as an ordinary end-customer.
Ollie B yes, good sir that is how a store works. The issue with AK direct is they are based in Spain and in turn would need to be imported internationally which makes it more expensive to source directly than to go for a distributor in the states. But finding a good one is difficult, hence my original comment.
you should build one of the model collect fist of war series 1/72 scale. they're tank with legs.
hi Andy great video's , love what you are doing for the hobby , could you tell me the type of airbrush used and needle size please
my bad Andy :{{ missed it the first time watching - watched second time and caught it iwata eclipse -cs needle i presume is the stock
Andy can you do weathering techniques for aircraft
@ 22 psi usually everything I spray at 15
I am confused by the name Acrylic/Laquer paint. Acrylic to me is water based and Laquer is oil based. how do you clean your airbrush and brushes ? Soap and water or Laquer Thinner ?
Use lacquer thinner to clean up. Acrylic lacquer is solvent based. Acrylic doesn’t refer to being water based, but to the type of polymers used to bind the pigment. Most acrylics are solvent based, including Mr Hobby and Tamiya.
Is it only for airbrush? Can I use it by paint brush?
Does anyone think that their Dark Helo Drab will work on the Kitty Hawk MH-60L Black Hawk??
Or do I even need to prime before painting with them
I am just trying out the Tamiya paints and someone recommended using 91% alcohol to to thin out.. Do I use the same method that you use (by filling the bottle to the top) with thinner?
Hey Andy, in the near future will we be able to purchase the whole range from you? Or would you be able to work something like that out?

Hello andy .. May i ask a favor? Can you build a tamiya 35009 or the panzer 2..
Do you think it would spray at 15 psi
I like AK colors more than Vallejo, Testors, and Mr. Hobby. Only Tamiya that AK can't outclass in my opinion .. I am not an advanced painter at all just describing what worked best for me.
What's the best Tamiya thinner to use on these paints. Thanks Henry
yes!!!
yeah!
can you do the Revel Big Boy train
Thanks for the review, Andy. I'm looking for something that sprays similarly to Tamiya to replace the Mr. Gunze FS colors which are largely unavailable in the U.S. I need to be able to use VERY high thinning ratios in both a Paasche single-action as well as Iwata HP-CS for creating a layered effect on U.S. F-14/F-18s. I've been having terrible difficulty w/ Vallejo's Model Air U.S. Navy Jet colors, as they clog my airbrush incessantly. Can anyone share how well they mix w/ Tamiya? I've seen they thin well with both IPA and Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. Thank you.
They mix with the Tamiya acrylics just fine
Hey guys I just got my airbrush wish me luck it's an iwata neo airbrush with an iwata ninja jet compressor
Why are so many paint brands in spain?
No German RLM Codes printed on the bottles was a bad Move , i know they have RAL codes but most models use the RLM code
Has anyone used tayima clear on this paint
I use Ak before
Hello Your Channel is great but you have to buy a microphone. ... when you re away from the cam.
Can these be thinned with alcohol? that would be great!
NO...I use leveling thinner. Alcohol turns it to a mess.
I ordered me some AK. Anybody know if that Tamiya Oxide Red comes in a jar for airbrushing?
Not that I have seen. It is close to hull red but I add a little brown
Shud i fill my tamiya paints fully with medeum water?
Don't use water it sometimes messes up the paint
How it going
Do you like spaghetti
