@@DreamcraftBows I finally have some good wood for my own bows, two staves of ash, though they are on the slimmer side, so no flatbow for me. But I will 100% yoink your idea here, this is way too beautiful not to copy
5:13 Whenever I glue tip overlays I reduce them to nearly end size, especially on the inner side, where it's rather tricky rasping it down without hurting the back of the limb.
Thank you sir! Second attempt was successfull. Nevertheless it was light and not very efficient bow. After 10 they started to be nice. But it can be achieved faster for sure
If you love what you're doing ,,, it's not work ... Had a compound years ago ,,, but never felt any connection with it ... But in the last year ,,, I started with the least expensive Mongolian & black-hunter recurve ... Started making my own Fleming twist ... And now I've got the Southwest scorpion 68" ... I'm loving it ,,, guys like you sharing the wisdom ... That helped me get there ... thanks a lot ... I really dig this stuff !!!
It's a rediculously beautful bow. I recently started on a new project making a bow out of a piece of scrap wood I found in my old shed might be a fun challenge for someone like you to find an old pallet and try to make a bow out of it!
Go for it. I made a regular ash longbow a few years ago for my son's battle of Hastings reenactment. Never tried it before but the result was much better than expected (ok, so the tillering is a bit off but hey, it worked) Just take your time, a luxury I didn't have. I used an electric jigsaw and an electric plane for speed but I expect a proper draw knife gives a better feel for the wood, so next time I'll invest in the proper tools. :)
Thank you! Yes it's toxic, I've heard about cases when people got rash on hand just after shooting yew bow. It's the best to work with this wood outside or at least with doors open. Working gloves have to be used, also the dust is dangerous so when sanding mask is needed.
The UA-cam channel tips from a shipbuilder has a technique where they use plastic sheeting and some pipe to steam wood; they're well worth checking out. I've also seen some steamers made with large diameter PVC pipe. I tried to link them, but I think they got caught up in your channel's comment spam filter. Maybe check the likely spam on your channel?
Thank you for mentioning about it sir! I'll check it out. I've also designed device for steaming longer part of limb. See it here: ua-cam.com/video/CIm0n0dpcgU/v-deo.html

Nice work my friend, your confidence with the draw knife is impressive to say the least.

Another wonderful build, the contrast between the tips and rest of the limbs and handle looks very nice

Been wanting to try to build one since 1965. I'm only 70 I may just do it if the poles dont shift and there's no intergalactic interference!
No reason to wait, start it today

¿Que tipo de madera es buena para hacer un arco?
¿ Debe estar verde, o seca?
It should be seasoned wood
Lovely work 👌
Thank you 💪
How do you like ash as a bow wood?
It makes excellent springy walking sticks.
I like it, but I prefer black locust and red oak i think
Szia. Gyönyörü munka. Megkérdezhetem, Mijen fából van!?? Jól láttam KŐRIS??
Thank you sir! It is European Ash - Fraxinus Excelsior
What moisture content do you start at with your wood? Incredible videos so far, thanks for sharing.
I don't measure it to be honest, I "feel" when the wood is ready touching it
Nice book ,I have a couple of them ,measurements for every bow I've ever built for customers and the weight of every bow

very nice you its magic!
Thank you!
Hi I am just wondering why is heat threating important for bow?
It's not necessary but with woods like ash or black locust it helps a lot. It reduces the set the bow is taking and makes it faster
Ok thanks and you make the best handmade bows I have ever seen
Are the tip overlays necessary? Could you not just leave the tips larger at the initial cut?
These are not necessary. You can just cut self nocks
A lovely bow and a fantastic job showing the process. I have one question as to why you heat treat the belly. What is the purpose of doing this?
Glad you like it, thank you! Heat treating - tempering the belly - in the fewest words possible is making bows stronger and faster.
Belo trabalho
Thank you!
Do u sale them if so can u ship to north Carolina

Yo! That's a beautiful bow!
Question: How do you stay safe when working with yew wood, considering that most of the plant is toxic?
Thank you!
Yes it's toxic, I've heard about cases when people got rash on hand just after shooting yew bow. It's the best to work with this wood outside or at least with doors open. Working gloves have to be used, also the dust is dangerous so when sanding mask is needed.
I want this bow 🏹🏹

Why not just use a bandsaw to cut the wood?
I don't have it and I prefer working with hand tools
can you give us the dimensions including tappering

hello, and nice to meet you, if one wants to have your bow is it pissibile? If yes, at what price? Thanks.
Check out my store: dreamcraftbows.com/en_GB/new Thank you!
very nice build! how many hours would you say your average bow build takes? How long was this one?
Thank you sir! It''s tough to say I think usually it's up to 20-30hrs. This took something about that too.
Can anyone name the tools hes using to carve out the bows?
Drawknife, hatchet, card scraper, files
WHAT WOOD DID YOU USE TO MAKE THAT BOW?
I used European ash wood
