I'm from Mobile, a your accent is something I'll never get tired of. You sound like so many people that I dearly love. Congratulations on your new home.
Thank you man! Crafting has always been something meditative for me. So the talk free style will use in all my other future videosn too. The compliment about the editing an filming results means a lot to me! Because I had absolutely no idea when I started, and i had to spend a lot of time and effort to achieve such this result... :D
What a beautiful bow! I've been told that shape is called a 'Paddle Bow'. I guess everyone has their own name for it. Doesn't detract from it's shape or function. I wish I had the time, money, and the talent to make a work of art like this. Well done, sir! 🙂
As another random bowyer, this hobby can actually be extremely low-cost. You can make an amazing bow from a hardwios sapling rescued from a ditch bank or vacant lot, with a hatchet or machete, a knife, a cheap rasp, and some sandpaper. However, it has a way of becoming a deeper and deeper rabbit hole, and tools like spokeshaves, block planes, drawknives, cabinet scrapers, saws, etc. tend to accumulate. You might as well start.
Hello, my friend, You are a craftsman, without question. That was a fantastic watch. I didn't notice the lack of any music or conversation until I read some comments. I think that was because I loved watching you work and being with your tools and understanding them. You were in tune with your tools, knew what you wanted them to do, and did it. I loved hearing the noises of the files/rasps/chisels removing the wood on your way through your build. There is no nicer feeling than having an idea, then being with your tools and watching that idea develop. It is unique to you. No one else understands it, it's your secret! Thank you.
I´m really glad to hear that!!! While i was making the video, i thought a lot about it, how i can share my experience without been restricted through the many different spoken languages.
For beginners. This would prove extremely hard. Start with a decent branch from any tree you think will do and practice. Sometimes you get some great little bows. Powerful too. And it's a good way to spend a little time. Without looking for perfection.
This was a very good video to watch, and a very nice place you live in. If I can say it, I think the tiller is wrong for the profile of bow you have. Your bow is bending too much near fades. This is typical in a pyramid bow. Your bow has a parallel profile, it should bend less near fades. That’s why you have some set near fades (worst place to have set), and lost some tension. But congrats, it was very nice
Great work on the bow and the video! One of the best detailed videos I've seen on bow making. Not many show how they make the bow string too. How many hours went into making it?? I'm attempting to make my first recurve right now out of maple and really enjoying the process. Your video will help with some details I was guessing on before haha.
Thank you for positiv feedback!!! Actually, i don´t know how long it takes exactly for building... Maybe 20 hours? Maple is a good wood for bow making, especially if you treat it with heat. The most important step is the tiller process. Don´t know, how much experience you have. But if you need help, you can ask. Maybe i can help you :D
Do you recommend a specific book/course for building wooden bows ? And can u please explain the difference between heat treating the wood like u did and wrapping the limbs with Aluninum foil and dipping in boiling water for like an hour ?
Hey! :D
200fps for a self bow flat bow at 26" of draw length and 50# is unprobable. Even with a light arrow. Top end modern longbows barely reach those speeds. Its difficult to compare, but my modern longbow reach 193 fps, and i have a 31,5" dl with 74# and 670 grain arrows. And it's really super fast compared to other shooters. Feeling the speed of a bow is something really difficult in fact. A bow that is in fact just a little faster seems to be really more powerfull.
It's a very beautyfull bow. Well made. Just a question and an advice, where did you learn to make this kind of bow string, it's not a flemish, does it have any advantage compared to flemish ? My advice, dont burn your string strands, as they melt they stick on the string and make a part that will not flex wich will cause the string to tear. You should wax it, it will cause the strands to stick to the string.😉
That's a really nice bow. I'm curious about draw weight. I was recently given an osage bow. I'm still learning with it. My only other experience is with a compound bow.
Just the kind of relaxing video needed.
The no talking was great, nothing personal , just people tend to talk to much, and noterform the task at hand.
You know what else is amazing? this video isn't even edited.
To everyone who watched this vid...you have witnessed a true craftsman at a craft he loves. Absolutely stunning bow! ScottinUSA
thank you Scottin :D
I dunno who tf taught him to step on the bow's handle to string it, though. Lol
@@CloudfeatherRusticWorksI’ve got a sneaking suspicion he knows what he’s doing mate😂
Beautiful job, enjoyed from start to finish. Good therapy for an old bowyer like myself. Thank you

What is the draw weight on that bow?
50 pounds / 26 inches draw lenght
actually, i want to write it at the video, just forgot it.
Will be there next time ;)
I missed the part about drying the elm wood
Wow very impressive, you’re a talented artist 👍
Bravo sei un vero artista.
çok çok güzel teşekkürler
Bel video! Bravo
Dry the wood for six months. lol I should do a few of these now and they’ll be ready for next summer.

Ottimo lavoro.

Good job. Love this video. You might have been able to get two bows out of the stave if you had split it again.
Definitely, but I'm always a bit overcautious when it comes to things like that hehe :D

judging by the sound it is 30-35 meters per second
If you change the shape, make an acacia bow, it will be up to 60 meters per second a light arrow
