This is about building a router lift using a bowden cable from a bicycle. Sadly my Elu router died before I could do anything with this router lift.

That is the most tragic ending I have ever seen in a tool/carpentry video. I'm impressed and devastated at the same time.

Well made and a clever design. Routers die every day but your design will live on, it will earn you a living if marketed right.

I was thinking that this sort of thing wouldn't be that hard or expensive to manufacture. Everything seems to be made out of aluminum but even this could be (partly) done out of lego plastic. No one seems to want make anything affordable and durable anymore.

Nice video. I find it easier to follow such a build, if the final product is shown at the beginning. So I know what we're moving towards.
The wire gave me an idea: How about combining with bicycle gears? With fixed distance of e.g. 1, 3, 5 cm, and then fine-tuning with the handle.

Nice project! 💪🏻 Sad day for your router. 😥 Missed your intro and voiceover. Your design skills and planning are always clear... along with your sense of humor! Thanks for sharing. Cheers! 🍻👍🏻😊

Great idea, too bad the router bit the dust before you could complete and test this lift.

    Cosmas,
I like the design and it will have the added benefit of being largely immune from dust problems on gears or threaded rods like other designs and you can mount the winder almost anywhere, even add a small arduino controlled motor counting rotations and a display.

Great build. Do you think that the mechanism is stable from vibration and won't move during operation? Does it need a lock? I think this is fantastic though and I would love to see it in operation!

Cosmos, You’re good at diy, can’t you economically repair the router? Or buy a used one?
You didn’t show or mention the reason for the lift design change! I like your idea and build though.

Cool build. But another video where a rotary* tool could've made things much easier to do.
*-Dremel type rotary tool (And FYI: I gave up on Dremel brand after trying the far less expensive, and much better designed Black and Decker RTX. It's better than Dremel's in every way, and unlike Dremel (and the horrible knock off type rotary tools online... ughhh they are all junk... ) the RTX actually is durable, and it has torque.)
