Getting rifle & harpoons ready for seal hunt (Lake Melville)... Extreme seal hunting - • Extreme Seal Hunting How to cook seal meat - • Seal Blood Pudding
Another great one William. I watch your all videos where you catch crab and shrimp as your ‘day job’ Then catch cod fish and salmon with rod and reel- for fun Winter months you are on the trapline after mink and marten cats... or fishing thru the ice Now you are going seal hunting , with a harpoon, a weapon that most men have only seen on TV, yet you have a collection of them. So, it occurred to me , that you must be one of the last full time “hunter- gatherers” left in North America.... Yet when we see you with your children you are as gentle and as patient as humanly possible, really! A real savage, NOT! Thanks for doing what you do William, Stay safe, live healthy!
I'm guessing that you do realize that not too many Canadians have strips of polar bear hide hanging off of their seal harpoons. Just saying. Very interesting seeing the harpoon heads. The bone one is a looker. Please give us a good look at the seals and identify them. Thanks fir the video and really looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for the post. Please tell more about the bone harpoon. I like to tinker while watching youtube and would like to try if easy enough to make one. Later.
Cant wait to see you Whackin dem Seals Big Man, really enjoy watchin those hunts! I'm from Michigan in the U.S. so I've never had the opportunity to try Seal meat but would love to, take care and God Bless you and yours!
The seal hunting is great for me to watch, for it is something that I could never experience for myself! The bone harpoon is even better! I love seeing and learning about the ways of the old ones! I have found several arrowheads and tools from my area and it gives me a connection to the past. Theirs and my "basic" needs are the same, and when you think of life like that, it makes us not all that much different. Good luck on your hunt William and be safe!! PS. I would love to see any tools from the ones before you!
Hi William. It is possible you fitted the harpoon head to the shaft with the rope on the wrong side. When the head goes inside the skin, and the rope goes taut, it can interfere with the turning of the head.
A BETTER SEAL TRAP - What if you used a crossbow pistol with a strong line attached to it ??? No more bent rod points and no more sprained wrists !!! They come 50 to 80 pounds of draw weight !!! It is "A better mouse trap!"
Thank you for this video! It is great to see the tools used in the field and hear a little about how they are used. Are there approximate times that seals float before sinking, relative to the time of the year? Information like that is precious to those of us who are learning. Safe travels and good luck on your hunt!
