Cool challenge and hike! Hmmm...Bears? Well, don't take Seth's advice! LOL I wish you and everyone who takes the challenge, great success! Bruce and Otis...who has actually been mistaken for a bear and sent one young lady screaming back down the trail! lol

LOL Otis, the happiest bear ever! Thanks Bruce, it is a really nice and pretty good hike. ATB, Gary.

You should tease people with the thought of bears! 😝 I wish we had them around here. I leave my food in my sleeping bag in the hopes I'll meet one but I only end up with raccoons in my hammock.

LOL, Bears are real! =P We have them in Pachaug but just a couple. don't leave food in your bag in the winter or you may end up with polar bears lol!

Gary, you just gave me a reason to go back and hike those trails again. I have only stayed overnight at 2 of the four shelters so, I'll. have to try a new one there as well. I hope a lot of people take you up on the challenge. All the best!

Hello John! Yes, I do hope a lot of people get out and try this challenge and there is always good reason to go back to Pachaug lol! I look forward to adding your name to the roster good sir.
      All the best,
      Gary.

I’ve made a permit request for the Peg Mill Shelter for Monday May 23. I’ll be staying overnight solo. I’ll post photos. I’d like to camp at all 4 shelters on the trail for a badge. I enjoy your videos.

Tom, that’s awesome!! Thank you very much and enjoy the shelter! The Peg Mill is a good shelter for sure and not too bad to get to.
I look forward to sending out a patch to you. I will look for your pictures. All the best, Gary.

    Hey Gary!
So I’m thinking of adopting a Leonberger and hiking the trail so I can have the same experience as Otis !
The patch challenge sounds cool but I have a bit of a geographical placement challenge. Is there a way to donate a few bucks ?
As I didn’t notice a way on the website I figured I’d ask. I know you have my email already but I joined the newsletter anyway.
Also, here I will shamelessly try to convince you to raffle off a custom knife or hatchet so that I can enter the drawing.
This in spite of having enough to be considered an arsenal in the pre-gunpowder era (well maybe a ‘Modest accumulation’) but I digress from shamelessly attempting to get you to blacksmith something cool !
May all your journeys be adventures and your havens safe

I had an aunt that used to breed Leonbergers, great dogs but I would recommend them for more than just a prank lol!
The CFPA has a website for donations here. www.ctwoodlands.org/giving/join-renew-donate-now
I am doing a fundraiser for Seek the peak this year again and, if you are inclined to donate they could use a dollar on Mount Washington for weather research and education. here is that link.

My forge is busted right now though so smushing metal is a bit out for a bit, until I can fix it at least and I don't know if it is possible to have too many knive unless you are trying to carry them all at once LOL!
I hope all is well John!
      All the best,
      Gary.

@@ConnecticutBackcountry funny guy lol. I’m planning to hike and stay at the sites and can’t find any good maps. Any help? Also you taking a break from videos? Haven’t seen one in forever.

@@ToddAllynFleming Yeah it has been a bit and life keeps putting stuff in the way but all should be sorted soon and 90% of it is good just kept me busy. I plan on a video soon though and will mention stuff. The pachaugpatchchallenge.com/ for real has all the info you could want. There are links to maps and gpx files and even links to each video I did on each section. The CTWoodlands.org site has an interactive map but for some reason it isn't showing Legend Wood or Dawley Pond shelter right now. The CT Deep site has mini maps of the trails leading into the shelters too. Best to look at all those sites on a PC though.

Thanks for the info. I’ll look into it.
