    Thank you ! One other struggle is WHEN to direct sow my Bells. My first frost is the end of April. Love you all. Thanks for all you do.

      Hello! Is your first frost at the end of April, or did you mean to say that it was your last frost? I was not sure if you were in the southern hemisphere, or if you meant to say that your last frost was at that time. I just want to confirm before answering so that I do not give you the wrong instructions 😂 Thanks so much for watching! 🤗

    This video is extremely helpful, thank you! I’ve never had a problem getting my Rudbeckia to germinate until this year…hardly any germination! I’m emailing this video to myself so I can refer back to it!

    Thank you! I tried soil blocking for the first time a few weeks ago and had maybe 1 or 2 tiny sprouts out of several hundred. I think this video narrowed down what my problem could be. I think despite my lights being LED, I had them set very close to the soil and I think they were drying out the little blocks. Plus I didn't use burlap or vermiculite. I'm in zone 6b so I think I've missed my window for getting transplants in the ground but I'm going to try again anyway just to make sure I can get them to germinate. Thanks again!

      Getting the hang of the soil block process, was a get in itself for me. Winter would be ideal to try some, provided you can mimic the correct room temp for, say, warm season annuals. I'm new to cool season flowers, too, so this coming seed starting, in 2024 is going to be interesting!!

    • @LayneAngelo
      @LayneAngelo 10 місяців тому

      Hello! Yes, I would definitely try again without the lights and with wide weave burlap or vermiculite. You may even still be able to plant the transplants out if your ground is not frozen by the time they are ready 🥶 Sometimes cool flowers do not fare as well if they are not well established before winter sets in, but they may, in fact, make it - especially if you are able to protect them with row cover! It could be worth a shot. I also wanted to mention that I sometimes need to water my blocks twice a day during the germination process (when temperatures in my growing space are warm) just to keep the blocks moist. Best of luck, and please let me know if you have any better germination this time around! Thanks so much for watching, and have a wonderful evening 🤗

    Thanks for this ladies! I struggle with both poppies and Rudbeckia! Interesting thing though….. I struggled with Bells of Ireland until 3 years ago when I accidentally covered them. I now get about 90% germination when I lightly cover them and keep them very wet! Weird!!!

    I always struggle between Iceland poppies and breadseed and other types of poppies…

    • @LayneAngelo
      @LayneAngelo 10 місяців тому +1

      Hello! We treat both of those types of poppies the same in terms of sowing. We recommend sowing both directly outdoors, however, some people do prefer to start Iceland poppies indoors as transplants 🙂 Thanks so much for watching, and have a great day! 🤗

    I did not Fall sow Bells of Ireland, so I’m going to start this very early Spring. I know you recommend direct sowing but do you have any tips for starting in soil blocks/trays???

    Why do my breadseed poppies grow to be 1 1/2 inches tall and fall over and die?
