Thanks so much Bracken, I'll keep it up!
i agree...damn if only i can let him tutor me personally i would'nt be struggling this much..
Nice Video! Excuse me for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great exclusive product for mastering guitar scales minus the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my work colleague finally got astronomical results with it.
im only 2:30 seconds in and i subscribed, clear and concise, brilliant.
So true bro...
I feel like what sets this apart from other you tube lessons is that he is very good at explaining himself, where most people just say "this is how its done" but don't either understand or explain the "why" like Sean does. Excellent!
+Brandon Babbit Thanks so much Brandon! :)
Just came across your channel, newer guitar player here, 8months or so, and I've been trying to figure out how to apply scales, and after asking an instructor several times with no luck, I stopped bothering with lessons. This is exactly what i was looking for. This will give all those basic chords the flourish I've been needing on songs. Thank you.
So great to hear! I'm happy to help!
With these videos and my neighbors pounding on the walls it feels like I'm starting my own band! Keep em coming!
+Bryan Iund Anything to upset the neighbors my man!
+Bryan Iund I like your name,,
Second name precisely.
@@Harish-ou4dy Hindustan zindabad 😂
Omg, I feel like my entire guitar playing has been unlocked and upgraded from this video, your channel is amazing. I'm learning guitar now and the content on your channel is just perfect. I'm taking the approach of acquiring the proper fundamentals instead of just learning songs and you offer that in amazing way. Thanks a lot!
So glad it's helpful!
OMG!!! I have had such a hard time understanding guitar scales until I found you. You make learning so easy and interesting. I learned the blues scale in box form last night and couldn't put down my guitar. And you teach FULL lessons. You don't give me a teaser and then want me to pay for your online lessons. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Keep those lessons coming.
Thanks Lynn! I'll keep em coming!
Man this lesson of yours is an absolute treasure for any guitar enthusiasist. Today I understood the importance of scales. With this now I can take my guitar practice to the next level. Thank you so much mate. You just earned a subscriber🤗
SINCERLY, THIS IS USEFUL. NOT THOSE BULLSHITT YOU SEE IN UA-cam. THIS. PLEASE, DO MORE OF THIS. THIS.
+Milton Oli Thanks a lot, I'll keep em coming!

+Milton Oli Happy to help, feel free to check out some of my other videos and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching.
Sean Daniel i
I agree. I like learning stuff like this that's simple but useful.
What a great lesson! It seems obvious now that you have explained it, but I never got it before. You are such a good teacher.
I have been listening off and on today. Dude, you are good ! I've been playing for years and gotten modestly good . Anyone that can play guitar can hear that special talent. Love it !
Been playing for about a year now and learning by watching youtube videos.. and felt like I was at a point stuck progressing forward, and I must say.. excellent video, very clearly explained difficult concepts I'm sure.. and I'm now excited to continue working at this and further progressing. Thank you.
+Dustin Wolfe Man that's great to hear! Let me know if you ever have any questions!
Almost 4yrs later and still one of the better videos out there. Thanks!
Dude you're seriously the best guitar teacher on youtube, I wish you all the best for all the great stuff you've been doing.
Man thanks so much! I'll keep it up!
Reading the comments, I noticed that you answer questions, and thank people. You're one of few that I've seen on UA-cam that takes the time to do this. That added to the amazing teaching style you bring is incredible. Thank You for all you do...
Thanks for reaching out! Yeah I think it's important to try and respond as much as I can. Definitely let me know if you have any questions :)
An excellent video, not only technical but also how to practice and make the experience interesting. Thank you.
Thanks so much Edinburgh :)
really!
You are filling the gaps! This is probably the most straight forward lesson I've ever come across! And I've seen quite a lot … brillant! Thanks!
+BIG66GEE That's great to hear! Thanks for watching.
So many teachers do not know how to answer this question. It took me forever to figure it out . Where the hell were you when I needed you. Oh that's right not born yet...Lol... Great lessons and quick answers and thank god you are correctly microphoned up so I can here what you are saying. I have subscribed so I can now teach my teacher what I pay him for.
Thanks Gman! Make sure your guitar teacher knows he can always hit me up if he has any questions ;)
Sean Daniel yessss and I have shown a few videos of urs to my teacher as well..and I like your style of teaching..this lesson is brilliant!!I have asked this connection without satisfactory explanation..just got a single word answer "it's improvisation"which was obviously not what I wanted to know..till I hit upon this lesson..and knew instantly it's called connecting a chord with its scale or as you call walking through the chords..thanks "shaun"..keep up the awesomeness..
The first part of the video is so helpful, can you do a longer video teaching how to use all the chords and scales from a key and connect them to play improv stuff?
+andrew horochovic For sure, I've got a few ideas coming up soon. Thanks for the feedback!
This is one of the most useful guitar lessons on the whole damn internet, Sean. Thanks!
+James Bennett Thanks so much James!
Sometimes too much information is a hinder to learning how to play the guitar, but you explain it in clear instructions.
Man I needed this! I was stuck on plateau with my playing. Thank you!!!
Great to hear! Keep rockin!
For me, this has been such a block for such a long time. Your videos are so liberating, I can't thank you enough! It's like I knew these concepts but I needed someone to walk me through weaving them together!
P.S. reposting this comment because I had mistakenly left it on another video
You are An enlightened being my friend. Everytime I want to learn something new I start checking your videos. Thanks a lot for posting such important knowledge online.
Thanks for the kind words! I'll keep em coming!
I am one year in learning guitar and sometimes I find milestone where some secret, that change the game, appears. This is exactly that place again! Thanks for explaining. I really did not understand what are scales good for and this makes so much sense… like how I did not think about this before? Well, we all are learning whole life, aint, we? Thanks for your amazing job. :-)
Wow music theory always seemed difficult whenever I tried to learn it, I knew my scales but only the shapes really and kinda what sounded good or cool in them. I have watched four of your videos and everything just clicked! Seriously good job you could make a living doing this.
So great to hear they've been helpful!
Sean, Stich and Steve Stein.
The best guitar instructors on youtube.
found this to be super helpful for chord progressions. it adds little flair to the changes in the chords. I love your work you've helped me learned so much with just one video! I can't wait to see more!
Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
These videos are so valuable. I learn so much more from your/Sean's videos than from any other. It helps so so much to understand guitar playing.
I have basically two questions related to this tho. I hope anyone understands them and can answer them :P. So here is what i know: This video is based on the Key of C major. Natural chords of C major are C Dm Em F G Am (Bdim). Minor counter scale of C major is A minor.
1. Does this mean you are basically using only notes from the C Major/ A Minor sale to connect chords?
2. Let's say I have then opened or connected to a new section where I am playing an Em chord. Can I then use all the notes from the E minor scale to add some flavor/ melody to the song or is it advisable to still only use notes from the C major scale to add flavor?
I know you can do basically anything you want in music so I am asking from a harmonic rule based standpoint.
Thanks!!
Sean has been sent to us from guitar Heaven! You rock man!
Haha, thanks so much Edward!
I have spent billions of gigabytes searching for the right lesson and right teacher....my gigabytes did not go to waste I can tell you! You're awesome! God bless man!
+Mais Strauss thanks so much for reaching out and welcome to the party!

+Mohit Gupta Happy to help man! Rock on!
This is exactly what I am trying to learn. Very clear/ simplified explanation. Thanks.
No problem. Glad I could help :)
Good video. Great conversational style of teaching!
Thanks Mark, I'll keep em coming!
Unbelievable! I could sit there for hours listening to changing chords. I have to learn this! Already doing your triplets from other video. Thank you!
So great to hear!
wow Sean.....you're the best.......I can't recall a single instructor making this concept so easy and fun.....great stuff man ;-)
Thanks so much for checking it out! I'll keep em coming!
Awesome video!
This is an amazing application for my scales. I'm currently learning my scale, and now I know how to apply them :)
dude, you describe and show it so well thanks!
Thanks so much! I'll keep em coming1
Hey bro I am new to your Channel but I've noticed a difference in my playing ever since I've been implying your lessons. I used to shy away from knowing a little music theory and your notes on guitar but you explain things in a way that I can understand and not feel intimidated Thank you very much.
So cool to hear Jake, welcome to the party!
Great video... Funny as hell this guy talks like James Hetfield sings.. "Check out these chords-zaah... With these shapes-zaah... Do it like this-zaah" Great-aaah! Lol
That is the coolest thing anyone has ever said about me :)
Sean Daniel Seriously- great vids! I follow you and Ian now! Keep me going! And thanks!!
I thought the same and started to wonder where ole' Dude is from XD. He said it about "knowled-ggeeeee" too. Awesome lol
This is the first video where he does it. I first thought he was high since he usually has a very natural down to the ground way of explaining things.
Southern preaching guitar lessons!
I was thinking about that, since I'm a beginner and I'm teaching myself through the internet I was wondering how to find a way to make my playing more interesting, I knew how to do some things with the D, G, C,Am and a couple of other chords, but now I know what I'd been doing, THANKS MAN!! You kind of threw me in the intermediate zone, I can do bar chords just fine and I know a couple of scales and I've been playing for five months, my biggest improvements have been the last three weeks :) I'm getting a huge confidence boost at the moment thanks to you and a couple other people on youtube :)
+Raph ll That's so awesome to hear! Yeah once you have the dexterity to play bar chords, there's really nothing holding you back physically from achieving anything. Definitely keep looking into the theory and stuff behind chords and scales and you'll keep improving. Congrats on the progress! Keep it up!
Yeah you are one of those too rare teachers that doles out bundles of top class theory with practice at same time...interesting fast paced and not spending 20 mins explaining a D chord. Mint
Thanks so much Brooke!
Just plain like this guy. Listened to others and, ug. Sean is just laid back and comfortable to listen to. Thanks Sean!
Glad you liked the video!
Great stuff man. Been playing for years and hit a plateau awhile back. Not anymore! You and ian have instantly won me over. You always have great demonstrations after each section of teaching which makes it easy to follow. Best on the web! Please keep passing on the knowledge. Wish u guys the best.
Thanks so much Brandon! I'll keep em coming!
The two videos are very good and helpful to my present stage. You're a nice and great teacher who make audience feel comfortable and be able to pick up new skills. PS: just wondering why did you emphasis on the plural form "s" that often hahaha~
once eye got past your extra-diction lol very helpful and well played out
haha thanks! you'll learn to love the extra-diction :)
nice dude, every time i watch your videos i learn something different. very unique style in teaching, thanks for sharing :D
Thanks for reaching out man! I'll keep em up!
so what you are saying is that you can use the scale of the key you are in to connect the chords that are in the same key
Absolutely!
WOW what a lesson! Thanks a lot for this video! From scales to actually MUSIC 🎵🎶
I really liked the craigslist analogy
Missed Connections is a surefire laugh every time I click on it.
I haven't seen a vid about connecting chords and scales as helpful as this one. Thanks dude!
Happy to help!
Sean: "So, I guess kind of think like a bass player. Actually, I take that back. Never ever think like a bass player."
Davie504: "How dare you say that! I will call the police!"
Sean: "Go ahead. They will never believe you."
Sean ur tutorials are amazing... U get right to the point....great job!
Thanks so much Darryl!
You're the best man!
+Lars Under Thanks so much! I try really hard :)
dude you are so underrated! the best tutor on youtube, you are the only one that explains things nicely, subbed
+dmtdmtdmt Thanks so much for the love! I'll keep em coming.
Really useful...thx.
Thanks for your instructive videos. You explain things very clearly. Continue posting these courses.
Thanks for the support! Videos are out everyday.
I love the way he speaks. "scalesu", "hearu", so cute
;)
a one and-uh a two-uh and-uh...LOL nice tutorial sean! where are from? is that regional affectation?
This works even better with barre chords. Also works well within a chord. Instead of changing chords you can use this same approach to connect chord tones within that chord.
Pro tip
Sean your the BEST GUITAR TEACHER IVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET! IM 71 YEARS OLD!
Wow, this is the video I've been looking for. BIG LIKE, bro, amazing! Keep the good work!
+Jonnah Smith Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you ever have any questions.
How have I just found your channel!? Your teaching style is fantastic
Great tips!
On a sidenote, it's somewhat empowering to see that what u are explaining now I kinda came up with myself some time ago PURELY because I was just having fun messing around with the C a D E chords to see what sounded cool what didn't:) At any rate, many thanks!
Thank you sir for an amazing lesson. Couldn't find this anywhere else.
+IAm DEnZiL Happy to help my man!

Love the initial hook. Missed connections are sad. Funny and witty because it's true. Love the analogy and lesson. Keep it up thank you.
Will do man! Keep checking those craigslist posts, you never know!
This is really helpful, liked and subscribed.
Only a question, do you have any good exercises I could do to practice that? Also you're a really good teacher. Keep doing you, you got this!
+Tal Maimon Man thanks so much. I think I'm gonna do another video to answer your question on practice exercises so stay tuned!
+Sean Daniel Oh wow thanks! I've been playing with the ideas from this video and I can already feel how it made things more interesting, so I'm sure the video will be really helpful! Can't wait!
Sean you are amazing guitar teacher and coach. I love the way you coach in relaxed mood.

another kick ads vid.love you and stitch.opening up my playing tremendously.I've actually really been working on this method.this gives me alot of good ideas
kick ass.Damn spell check
So cool to hear! we'll keep em coming!
Great vid! I have been searching for a vid of this type. Got scales, know my chords, but hoe should I link majors and minors? I agree, one of the best teachers on here.
Thanks for watching man! Just think of major chords being the 1st 4th and 5th chords of a key and minor being the 2nd, 3rd and 6th chords and that'll help!
Great lesson, thanks Sean! The fret hand info is sinking in and starting to stick but the other half of making this work is what is going on with the strumming and picking...sounds great, can you do a lesson or point us to one that will get us going on learning that part?
Excellent sounding guitar that looks _awesome_ !! One of the best looking guitars I've ever seen.
Best connectivity video I’ve seen yet. Very nice
Valuable lesson! The key to Jimi Hendrick's style but more basically explained. Thanks!
+stranger360th Happy to help! Thanks for watching!
Sean, that was a master lesson! I also just realized that the underlying notes don`t always have to be Ionian (in reference to the tonal centre). If you`re playing in say Dorian mode, the underlying notes would follow the tonal centre`s Dorian scale. Have you done a vid in which you explore what underlying notes to hit when a chord comes along in the song that doesn`t belong in that scale e.g.a song in key of C major and all of a sudden you get a bar in Bb, yikes!
Haven't done that video yet but I'll try soon :)
Bless you and your videos dude you are crazy easy to listen to and understand I appreciate it
Thanks so much Daniel! I'll keep em coming!
ThiS video just opened big doors for me
Thanx Sean

Happy to help my man!
just stumbled here by accident, and i am really glad i did so! really cool hints, i knew about the pentatonic scale before and i played around alittle, but the ay you talk about this is much clearer to me. plus i love that humor you showed with the craigslist thing :D
+TheCangar1 Thanks for the kind words! I'll keep em comin! Definitely check out some of those craigslist missed connections, high comedy.

+Ryan Eslava You got it man! Thanks for watching!
:-)
Sean I been looking for this tips for the longest time tyvm brother your tip is the best
Happy to help my man!
This guy is brilliant 👏 thanks from James in Ireland
Dude blew my mind. I keep thinking I'm stumbling upon new music. Turns out, we've all just been doing the same thing. Makes you wonder what people way before internet or recordings sounded like. Just individuals, segregated and isolated, being their best self.
And I don't mean to say you're not unique, @op, because I'm obviously here learning from you, my man. Love it. Music is love. Peace, shalom, assalamu alaikum and may the Force be with you.
I’ve really learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Bro ...
UR a blast to wake & bake with every morning getting in some extra practice and picking up on a few extra tips on playing. Scoring some teaching tips too to pass on to my students :o)
Ryde on !!!
What an amazing tutorial, thank you! I've been learning all of these scales and I had no idea what to do with them, I just knew I needed to learn them at some point. Now, I know how to connect them....THANK YOU! Subscribed.
My strumming is completely different when combining notes, your strumming is magical
Man you are actually making things easy. So helpful 🔥🔥🔥👌👍
Great material! Thanks! ...Also thanks for not taking yourself too seriously and delivering more down to earth. Some videos are just too hard to watch. AND Brandon Flowers looks like YOU
Haha, right on man :)
Thanks man! This concept seems ovious, but i never thought about it before. Its a new way to help me play guitar.
Happy to help! Rock on!
Sean this video is sick, rate you very highly, thanks for not trying to selling me your website 4 times mid lesson
+Nikhil Thakral Happy to help! Trying to keep the bs to a minimum :)
I've just came across your channel this week and I must say, you have already shed some light about music theory on me. Bravo.
I just wanted to confirm that I'm getting things right with respect to connecting chords with scales..
In the case of this example where you are using the key of C major; whenever you make a transition from the A minor chord to the C major chord, do you also switch the scales that you are using, from an A minor to a C major?
Or do you simply stick to the minor scale pattern (since the key is C major) irrespective whether the chord you are playing is a major chord?
And if you had to input a B diminished chord in the progression, for instance, would you then also switch to a B diminished scale?
I hope this wasn't too confusing, and thanks again for this channel!
Not confusing at all. So those 3 chords are all in the same key, which means you can stay in any of those 3 scale shapes and it'll sound great. Now it can be helpful to switch the scale shape when the chord switches (because that kind of thinking on the fly can be really useful for songs that have chords outside of one key) but staying in one shape and mastering it is a good way to go too. Since you're using the same 7 notes, the position your hand is in is actually secondary to the notes you're playing within that position. For example over that B diminished chord, you might want to emphasize the B note and the F note because they're important to that chord. It doesn't really matter is you play the B note as the third note in the A minor scale or the 7th note of the C major scale, it's all about which scale/shape helps you the most.
really excellent that he is also showing you something really fun to do that will also get into your muscle memory. 1st rate!
