Oh lord, I can't think of a show demanding *more* thought if you wanna catch all the references and philosophy in the ERB library.
Dude ERB is a terrible way to learn history. You'll just know a few fun facts but you won't have a deep understanding of anything. That requires much more. ERB is an entertainment source and little else.

@brownacs 1 There are many deep ERB that go beyond surface knowledge. Stuff like "You're a John doe in my deadlights" or even "you're an Ump Che, That's bay of pigs Latin".
@@howedaddy6122 Considering how unique their catalogue is, you need atleast above average knowledge in History, Comics, movies, sports, Current events, mythology and Music. Even the best and most knowledgeable reactors on youtube miss atleast a few bars.

It hurt my soul lol i seen the behind the scenes and they work their ass off to bring everything together plus the funding.
They truly are amazing at what they do and it isnt an easy task. There is so much skill that goes into many things that people think its "easy".

I think he means that it doesn't take much thought to digest the lyrics which is true since 90% of the references go over peoples heads
The reason he thinks that is that he doesn't get any of the references lol. So obviously he thinks it's just gibberish.
When you don't know the facts the line is referencing you don't even realise that there's a reference to get to begin with.
Either that or he's just not paying attention to the lyrics just because it's rap.
I think ERB lyrics are super clever and multi-layered. There's always stuff that you miss even after multiple rewatches.

Eh I agree but he's old fashioned and wrote it off because of swearing and because it's rap. My mom said it just sounded like noise and my dad didn't have much opinion of the ones I showed them. Though he did find some parts funny. ERB is very clever and even more so in subtle ways. Though if you pay attention to the words, there's a lot of truth in them.

Also, "It doesn't require much thought"? Maybe because he didn't put enough thought into it. These battles are uncanny with how factually accurate they are, and weaving those facts into a cohesive structure as sound as these videos are takes tremendous amounts of thought.

It's ironic when people who say ERB "doesn't require much thought" because they basically admitted that they don't have the thought process to understand these lines. Even the simple ones have double meanings. And especially the newer ones have clever lines

I can't believe these guys are saying this are not accurate information. They even had a couple of videos explaining the coming up with these raps with data.
And if you check the lyrics' meaning at the wikia, 90% of the lyrics are references from the characters itself, what happened around them or what they have done.
Many might not notice, but there are a lot of brief historical lessons to learn in the rap battles. That is probably why I love them the most.

The interviewer asked him something among the lines of 'Why do you think it is so popular?' and he answered 'I don't think it requires much thought'.
So to me it remains ambiguous if he meant 'I don't think this series needs to be thought about' or 'I don't think it is hard to figure out why it is so popular'.

I would still disagree. There are many videos that contain a lot of subtleties that are not easily understood by the average viewer without further research, (if they even caught the reference in the first place). My favorites: Rasputin vs. Stalin (vs. Lenin vs. Gorbachev vs. Putin), Tesla vs Edison and Blackbeard vs. Capone.

Honestly, these rap battles are good at teaching history. Not in, and of, themselves, but they have inspired me, more than a few times, to do some research on the subjects of the battle. The battle with Newton Vs Nye even got me to research the basics of calculus (I'm only 13 years old), and I actually understand the concepts quite well.

To the whole learning with the ERB thing, I learned from it. Mostly with the Miley Cyrus vs Joan of Arc. I didn't know who Joan of Arc was, and she seemed extremely intresting. I Googled her, and still am, because I find her so intresting.

The interesting thing is the stuff in the *history library books* or that they taught in school was often as inaccurate if not more so than Epic Rap Battle. The Revolutionary War being the hugest culprit. I understand being traditionalist about sources of information, but the ultimate goal should include something resembling accuracy.
