The spirit of the mighty S&D is shown magnificently, the prep crew, are a credit.wonerful scenes. The late great IVO P would approve. Amen to that. Thankyou.
Wonderful! Particularly appreciated the opening scene at Bath Green Park Shed, sorry Ropley 🙂. Turk Street a good location for the double track look too. Keep up the good work.
If only the money had not run out when building the S & D, it would have been a rather different scenario if it would have been double tracked over the Mendips; not the bottleneck it was as a single track line. Maybe, just maybe, it would have still been "open for business" now. How good it would have been to see Bath Green Park in full swing as the railway terminus it was meant to be. All credit to Sainsbury's, who have done a very good job of saving the building and putting it to very good use, but it's still not complete, without the track, and the trains.
Excellent coverage of her final day in service. I had a cracking day at the Watercress Line yesterday. It was sad though watching 53808 depart Alton on the 16.00 service and not knowing what the future holds for her.
Poor thing, boiler tickets are stupid short. Here in the USA, our boiler tickets are either an inspection every 15 years or after being fired up for operation 1,472 days
Not stupidly short by any means, a very safe way of doing it. Boiler tickets in the uk run for 18 months before a new inspection. Generally they're inspected every year for practical purposes. By the the time 10 years has come along the boiler my be ok to go for another year but mechanically the locomotive may be knackered, so it's an ideal time to overhaul the locomotive. Do USA locos have a yearly inspection too, or do they just assume it'll be good for 15 years without anyone looking? Or just fill them with concrete and run them on compressed air?

Sadly this engine is also very mechanically tired having been worked hard on the West Somerset railway

Which is why you've had at least one boiler explosion in preservation.
U.k boiler safety, out classes the poor standards used in the u.s . Which is why our preservation out classes the rest of the world.
@@04clemea no, the Federal Railroad Administration is very VERY strict on running steam locos
