Indeed! But then when I heard the song “Bad Company” for the first time on the grade school school bus, I was sure they were an American band. As a child of the American West, the reference to the “6 gun” just resonated. ( Unfortunately, in the last few decades we’ve gone off the deep end over here w/the gunsexual worship - but that’s for another day.) It wasn’t until fairly recently I realized they were Brits & just how many of their songs have been favs of mine. The heaviesq bluesy solid rock sound in conjunction w/Paul’s indisputably phenomenal rock voice just conveyes this raw natural energy & sexual undertone that’s the hallmark of all great rock music. (In my humble opinion). Oh hell yeah! So happy to have come of age during this time. Period
Boz started out as a singer, joined King Crimson, was taught to play bass by Robert Fripp, and ended up in Bad Company with Paul Rodgers as the singer.
Simon Kirk is such a great drummer, there are no throw away hits, when he hits a cymbal it means something. One of my favorite rock drummers

I think what people miss is our music back in the day, was very sexual. Bad Co, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, the list goes on. Greatest music off all time❤
Pink Floyd music wasn’t sexual and their music is also among the greatest, most timeless music ever released.

Well, except for their song on “The Wall” album called “Young Lust (Dirty Woman)”. That one is definitely sexually oriented. I’d forgotten about that one.

One of my favorite Rock Bands.
Have always loved Paul Rogers when he was in Free & Bad Company - that voice & he’s still out there rocking with that killer voice that’s only getting better. Those tight pants & little shirts he wore earlier didn’t hurt either!!! Mick Ralph’s - loved him too - he usually looked at Paul when he was playing which I thought was really cool. Long live Bad Company!!!

I assume you’ve been made aware of Paul’s first studio album of original songs in 24 years that was released a few months ago (Sept 2023). If you haven’t heard it or bought it yet, GET IT. He sounds as good at age 74 as he did in his late 20’s / early 30’s with Bad Company. A truly GIFTED voice! And the songs are solid. The album’s called “Midnight Rose”.
To me this band is what rock n roll is supposed to sound like. Big and bad and loud and proud. Love this band!!

One of the most underrated singers of all time. Yes, millions know and adore, but others get the hype making other’s seem bigger. No hype or major promotion, just the music, for the music. His voice, talent has transcended down throughout time. Music you can listen all the way through and gives you that pep in your step or relax. Not just for a particular mood, and never boring. Ppl naturally upbeat and soulful love his/their music.
Underrated? Paul Rodgers has been named (in print) as being the most compelling vocalist since Steve Winwood.
Paul Rodgers is not known as “THE VOICE” of Rock for nothing. He’s not underrated by any means. He’s LEGEND. Some of the best Rock vocalists out there have stated how much they admire Rodger’s vocal gift. Some have said they wish they could sound as good as Paul.
I saw Bad Company July 2019. Paul Rodgers sang Shooting Star and it about made me cry because it was in fact a long, Summer day that day. Rodgers sounds pretty much the same.

Thank God for the British! I absolutely love bad company. Straight shooter is one of the best albums ever made. It ROCKS and makes me cry. Anna & Call on me are so beautiful and poignant.

@@bonichols8511Brian got his big break with Bad Company. Paul at 19 co wrote All Right Now, still one of the greatest ever rock songs. Brian kept the band going when Paul left but Many bands have disbanded and reformed and Bad Co would have risen again as soon as you mention Paul Rodgers is the lead singer. sadly Brian is not here now but Paul’s voice is still as good as ever. Can’t say the same for many others including; Jagger, Plant, Davies, Coverdale, Gillan, Bon Jovi, Stanley, Perry, Gramm to name a few. All great but through age, wear and tear or illness their voices have just about gone. The Voice is still up there.

I was 10 years old in1974, but I had two older brothers and a sister to. And listen to the Beatles, deep purple, and bad company way before lead zeppelin or the stones. I know ALL of these songs by heart. I'd heard them on the radio three times a day for years.my first album was roomer's BY Fleetwood Mac. And my first concert was Pat Benatar in a small nightclub in Syracuse NY. And then George Thurogood. Spell check SUCKS on this sort of writing. Thanks again, Wonka Luv y'all.

Trader Joes about 10 years ago, strip mall, 6 in the morning and Deal With The Preacher is playing. Hadn't heard this in maybe 20 years. Blew me away.
Worked it up, Epi LP and fender combo amp. Great track and band.
Even today, my favorite Bad Company song and favorite performance by Paul Rodgers (edging out Alright Now with Free) is Gone, Gone, Gone from Desolation Angels.
Desolation Angels is one of my fav albums, I have it since I was 13!

I grew up listening to my older brothers records, a lot of old Blues, Rock, etc.
At 15, and i'd been living on Hendrix & Led Zep for like 3 years as everything else i was hearing didn't come close to what i was getting....then i heard the album Bad Company.
Christ...it floored me....i think it was about a week before i took my next breath.
Led Zep & Hendrix in my bones & Bad Company running through my veins......tbh can't believe am still here lol

Millions really dug the band and that's all that mattered. I think they were groovy and I had all their records. I enjoyed this free cool well made documentary. It brings back lots of good memories.
For all of the great popular songs they played, Rough Diamonds is my favorite album.

Am I the only one that knows that Bad Company is the only band that Led Zeppelin allowed to use swan song recording studio, and, the only band that carries the swan song emblem on their albums with the angel with wings

Bad company inspired more musicians in America than free! I was born in 64.... I bought everything they released! I saw Elvis on tv.... live via satellite when I was a child and being from the south, here was a guy who had a heavy southern accent and wore a cape like a superhero! I started asking for guitars that year. By the 70s I was listening to all kinds of bands, bad company‘s first album release inspired me to ask for my first electric guitar, a fender duo sonic, for Christmas! I have a picture on Christmas morning 1977 where I’m being handed this guitar and I’m wearing the classic black t with Bad Co in silver.....the way Paul sang rock with so much soul was inspiring to my generation of working musicians. Every bar band and solo performer I’ve ever known has done at least one Bad Company song! I still play Bad Company, silver Blue & Gold & Shooting Star.... also Crazy Circles.... great band! Great songs! Thanks for all the great material 🤘🏻😀
There has never, ever been a better Lead Singer than Paul "straight up-no chaser" Rodgers. He the best that ever was.Everyone else comes fifth.

I'm not a Bad Company afficionado, but they struck me as a little formulaic. Free, on the other hand, were a strange, spine chilling miracle.

The first 2 music albums I ever owned in my life was when I was 16 in 1975 and my girlfriend asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I said I only want 2 things: the albums “Straight Shooter” by Bad Co. and “One Of These Nights” by The Eagles. That’s what I got. They were 8-track cassettes so I could play ‘em in my first car: a pristine blue with white vinyl top ‘71 Plymouth Barracuda. I quickly purchased Bad Co’s first album and bought each of the other 4 as they were released. I’ve always considered “Run With The Pack” to be their peak, but I loved “Burnin’ Sky” nearly as well. For a long time their last two albums didn’t grow on me as much as the first four. But another 10 or 15 years down the road and I really started appreciating the music of those final two albums of the original BC lineup: “Desolation Angels” and “Rough Diamonds”.
One of the last albums I purchased was just a few months ago at age 64: Paul Rodgers’ first studio album of original songs in 24 years: “Midnight Rose”. I never thought that Paul was a great vocalist. My first concert experience was in.. I do not know 77, 78. Oakland Coliseum. Bad Company.
Wow. They came out playing Bad Company and then the drum stage rose into the air with green LASERS (frecking LASERS), holy crap. That was the first time that I had ever seen a Laser. The show was amazing and I have been a Bad Co fan ever since.

Simply love Bad Company. Paul Rogers best rock vocalists of all time. Simon Kirke my favourite drummer of all time. And they wrote some great songs. So under estimated.
Just a thought, perhaps he meant they devoured Led Zeppelin.... as in consumed or listened to a lot of? I love both bands, both bands were commercially huge in the US market
Listen to his remark in context starting from what the other critics say just beforehand: "they had the greatest singer that rocks ever produced" "they wanted to strip away all the excess...and deliver bare bones rock and roll that would make your blood boil" and then: "They DEVOURED Zeppelin" Those sound like fightin' words to me. Of course he might be talking about Bad Company getting more airplay in America which another critic talks about starting at around the 33 second mark. (they devoured zep at the 1 minute 7 second mark)

Rough Diamonds was a good album to me, overlooked yes not the best of theirs but is good
If you pick the 10 best songs from the 6 original Bad Company albums, you will have one album that could stand alongside the 6 Free studio albums. The other tracks are ordinary, although Rodgers' exceptional voice lifts them. Bad Company had the commercial success, but Free had the soul and musical integrity.
There was a lot of dross on the Free albums as well, they never reached their potential due to Kossof's problems and their age really, Andy Frazer was still only 20 when he left and Rodgers was 23.
@@Veaseify I disagree. No dross at all, actually. A few songs were ordinary or similar to each other. Their sound was so good, it made up for it. Bad Company mostly felt contrived and over produced. Although I only discovered Free 7 years after they split (a bit before my time), I have always felt that if you loved Free, it was hard to love Bad Company.
@@portcullis5622 'a lot' of dross might be exaggerating but Rodgers vocals saved quite a few unmemorable tunes. I remember hearing the Live Album in the late 70's and waiting for something remotely uptempo to kick in, or even a decent riff and wondering what all the fuss was about. They were good, no doubt and probably fantastic to hear Rodgers live but Bad Company made anthems that overshadowed the mediocrity of their other stuff.
@@Veaseify That is the problem for me. I don't like anthemic songs. They are throwaway. If I never hear 'Shooting Star' or 'Can't Get Enough' ever again, I will be quite happy. As for 'Young Blood' , 'Sweet Lil' Sister' and 'Honey Child', the lyrics just make me cringe! My favourite Bad Company album is 'Burnin' Sky' as it is the most Free-like. Songs like 'Morning Sun' and 'Like Water' were written during the first Free break up in 1971 and resurrected 6 years later.

The second version of bad company was just as good with holy water and no smoke without a fire. The lead singer May have been a nightmare but the group itself was good.

Paul has a great voice. I think not singing for Deep Purple was a wise decision. Bad Company is a great band. They weren't the 1st band to have dueling guitars. You had April Wine, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Thin Lizzy. They all did well with their own flavor added.

"Devoured" Zepplin? Sorry but no body will ever devour Zepplin. But Bad Company was a great band and Paul Rogers had a great voice, you can't deny that.

I always thought their name (especially when you listen to their title song's lyrics) was taken from the Western w/ Jeff Bridges (in the film also, was David Huddleston , later to be the BIG LEBOWSKI )who leads a life of crime while evading the Civil War w/ this other kid, "always on the run" 'Bad Company' was in theaters in 1972. I really liked the film, and the band. BAD COMPANY got their record deal in '74. just sayin'

Oh yes, & it's ironic that he felt his style wouldn't fit, when the replacement they found was a Paul Rogers wannabe also from the North East... David Coverdale. That being said, I'm glad he didn't take them up on the offer, because we would have been denied both Bad Company & the Coverdale Deep Purple, not to mention Whitesnake & probably Rainbow too (if Black more had decided to stick with Purple instead of going off on his own)..

A great band I saw them in 1998 with all the original members they were awesome then I saw them again about 10 years later and they still had Mick Ralph's but they had the guitar player who is with them now from the band Heart

first time I saw , actually the ONLY time I saw Aerosmith, I almost gagged at the sheer rip off of mick jagger by tyler, and they were just freaking loud and obnoxious. I didn't stay.
@@dyskover well, I think you mean Tyler ripping off jagger, or were you "trying" to be funny? well each to their own, you like what you like, but sadly when it comes to ripping off you have been fooled, like many others having your ears closed, not due to the "loud and obnoxious" to the fact that Aerosmith sounded like the stones, its like saying queen ripped off the beach boys all because of the harmonies.
To add, trying to catch the stones on a good night was like spinning a roulette wheel and hoping for the best, the rolling stones, one of the most inconstant live bands in history.
Did some great studio albums though, yes, I can count them on one hand.
@@hirawstra8edge137 ya. Steven was absolutely mimicking Mick. The venue was an Armory in Manchester back in '68? Cement block walls didn't help. I have my ears to consider, make that one good ear. I never saw the Stones but I heard em on the radio back when all I wanted was Satisfaction.
@@dyskover fair enough fella, I respect that you have your own thoughts on the tyler/jagger like I said each to their own, cement blocks are awful for acoustics, this will never help you hear a good band, i've been to a few venues over the years that have not be designed well enough, big and small, i'm fortunate I still have two good ears, hope you have no permeant damage, or if it has hope you have found a way to deal with it.

BTW, Paul Rodgers stated in interviews that Paul Kossoff was the best guitarist he'd ever worked with, hands down. High praise considering he'd also worked with Mick Ralphs & Jimmy Page, among others....

I chuckled, too, at Kirke so obviously going out of his way to trash talk such a superior group of musicians (in any iteration, really) as King Crimson. Most of Bad Co's stuff just sounds unimaginative and dated, and it has no following among the younger generations, while kids today who are really into music still know and appreciate Crimson. There is a more personal angle to the story maybe.
@dimebag Darell Of course they were never a mass popularity type of band; most people are too stupid to appreciate any kind of music or art that is remotely complex. Musicians working in many different genres appreciate Crimson, though.
@dimebag Darrell I think Paul Rogers was a great singer and I enjoyed his stuff with Free...and a bit of his work with Bad Company. I just disagree with some of the absurdly over the top estimations of the band, placing them above Zeppelin, Crimson, etc., which from a purely musical standpoint, is silly. But there's no
accounting for taste, each to their own, etc.

Get over the Led Zep line. We get it. Saw Paul in end of 90s. Paul still looked sexy as hell. Great band.

One of the first concerts I ever saw. I think it was in '75. My sister and I camped out in front of Macy's ticketron in the Mall the night before the tickets went on sale. We were 1st in line :) Brought binoculars with us to the show because we weren't sure exactly where our seats were located at the Nassau Coliseum. Turns out we could literally count Paul's eyelashes when looking through the binocs, lol! Paid 6.50 each for bad ass seats. Those were the days!
Paul Rodgers is often touted as one of best (if not THE best)singer(s) in rock music. Rodgers is undeniably a GREAT rock singer but if he has a failing, personally I'd say that his macho and soulful blues rock style, as arresting as it is, can suffer from a generic quality in much the same way as do even the best rock blues guitarists. Robert Plant, although yet another fine blues influenced rock singer, manages to sidestep most of the cliches that Rodgers is happy to utilize, and takes his voice into areas that very few other singers have gone or for that matter have been able to go. That said I was not always a big Plant fan (although I've loved Zeppelin since the early 1970s) It has taken me decades to truly appreciate Robert's musical artistry. Sorry, I know this is a Bad Company feature but one of the critics set me off with his fanboy hyperventilating over BC "devouring Zeppelin". I mean...COME ON.

Interesting perspective...I think I agree. Paul might have a more versatile voice, but Robert has a much more depth creatively over time

One of them asks Adder what to do if he accidentally steps on a mine and B.A says "well the standard procedure is to leap 200 feet in the air and then scatter yourself over a large area." To your question. I'm saying that Rodgers covers the same ground as most of his "blues rock" (rock blues"?) brethren be they singing or non singing musicians. The difference is he is a truly gifted vocalist who does it much better than the rest of them...with a few notable exceptions. As great as he is as a singer I don't hear him doing anything stylistically that sets him apart from the rest which is fine. You can be a superb singer without being a ground breaking stylist, or you can be a passable (in some cases barely passable)singer with originality to burn. Both are perfectly valid. Of course in the best of all possible worlds you get the rare individual who is not only a superb musician but also possesses a strong flair for thinking outside of the box. (pentatonically or otherwise - a little guitar humour for ya) In my opinion Robert Plant is that rarer kind of musician. Now I realize I haven't given you any examples of cliches that "Paul 'happily' steps on like unexploded mines????" lol but that was never my intention. I mean we could sit around over a few beer and pick apart various musicians styles and perceived failings until the cows come home, but the overarching point I wanted to make is that Paul Rodgers while being a great blues rock singer, didn't bring anything new to the table...and IMHO Robert Plant did.

And Paul Rodgers is probably the most under rated singer/musician who was actually popular (most people loved the songs but couldn't name him). But Bad Company is falling short of Led Zeppelin
Good point! However, he may have meant they devoured Zep in having hits on the radio, which Zep really never had, despite how popular they were. Or, perhaps the guy doesn't know what he's talking about (ha, ha)
He could sing a "Chinese Menu" in Chinese and it would sound Great

Funny how this great stuff hasn't been played on the radio once in the last 25 years but every station plays the same horrible songs every day!

Watching Paul Rogers just now I have just remembered wearing the same type of t-shirt or whatever it was, showing my tummy and with slightly flared sleeves, coupled with what were known as 'loon pants' as Paul is also wearing. Flared legs but skin tight everywhere else........ Lol
