Just picked up a double sapphire w/leather strap today. This watch was not on my serious radar until
I started reading about the Swatch fiasco. So many people really liked the Omega that I had to research it. So, I fall into the 50% increase because of Swatch camp!
*Great* watch -- with the upgrades to the movement, dial and bracelet, I'd say that this and the 321 are the best-executed iterations of the moonwatch offered (especially the sapphire sandwich, in my opinion, since I appreciate the sapphire crystal's durability) since the original.
I purchased the 1861 (2018) model from my brother in law a few months ago. I couldn’t pass up a great watch and plus we wanted the watch to stay within the family. It was barely used and in great condition.He threw in the new speedy bracelet as well. Love opening the big box with all the goodies. Such an awesome timepiece.
Need this watch in my collection. This and the Rolex Date just mint green are the two i want in my collection
Great review, l bought my 3861 with Cordou strap Hesalite closed back version 2 months ago.
I also purchased the Forstner President strap and it's amazingly comfortable and at a fraction of the Omega strap would cost.
I chose Forstner due its connection with the NASA astronauts choice in the Gemini and Apollo missions.
I am extremely satisfied with my watch as as stated by you and will pass it on to my sons in the future
Congratulations! I also got hesalite and love the solid caseback. If u don't like having to Polish the scratches. Just put a super thin 0.1mm soft self healing TPU film 35mm diameter . No More scratches and invisible too.
The movement is still the best in the game today
OMEGA is the bodybuilder of all watches.
The Speedmaster sales prooved, how salty omega owners were terribly wrong, by saying that Moonswatch will downgrade Omega's reputability. It also prooved how genius marketing ploy Swatch did.
I always saw the Moonswatch more like a entry for new customers to get their feet wet... Once they get it and appreciate it then they are going to save up and get the Omega
That was only for the insecure ones. Most ppl i know found it to be a brilliant idea! I personally know 3 who are now on the wait list for the 3861 at full retail. There's a long line in many countries.

@@Alex_Fung hahaha it's ok! These guys have plenty of watches. No prob waiting. We really don't get it why many would be too willing to pay extra for any brand or anything just to get it ahead of others /1st... it's not a necessity anyway. 🙂

good watch but the true legend is the Cal 321 "Ed White" version, column wheel Chrono is the holy grail (good enough for PP, VC and Rolex) .. but you have to pony up 3x of this watch to get one now, or wait 3-4 years and pay $14K..

Thank you so much for this video. I pick up mine today ( my first OMEGA) and I have the same issue with a little trouble getting the watch over my hand. But once in the wrist, it’s just a pleasure. I have the same thoughts about the buckle being a little short.
Chris, great video. I have the same size wrist, similar size hands, and the same exact problem. Especially because I generally prefer to wear my watches tight to the wrist. Maybe one day, they'll address it. IDK. But I do appreciated the video, as well as the conjecture on the topic. Well done. Cheers...

I have an Omega Speedmaster since a few years, the model before the co-axial movement.
And I am trying to buy several Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch as I think it's nice to have both, the real one, and some affordable models in different colors. I was lucky to buy the Mission to Earth, but it's not enough when you like to collect watches.
I bought a mint 2005 model Speedy some 4 years ago Chris. I couldn’t afford a brand new one, but honestly I just wanted a older model. Absolutely stoked with that purchase! It was & is my so called grail watch! I put it on a beautiful dark brown rally leather strap recently & it’s 😍!👍🏼😎 P.s. After your comments on prices going nuts, I checked various outlets & yep they’ve certainly shot upwards significantly!

I replaced my speedmaster clasp with the one from the chronoscope, gives you 2 positions of micro adjustment.
I have this watch ! Does the chronoscope clasp fit like for like no major adjustment needed I’ve heard mixed reviews ??
@@markbrisbane8929 for some reason My Omega Boutique can't order the 1 chronoscope endlink anymore. The chronoscope clasp does work but will not sit flush about 2mm (not a big deal for me) due to the original folding arm not having the recess for the push button adjustment. So you will be installing the Chronoscope clasp with the original arm.👍
I'm stuck between the hesalite and sapphire models, I know the hesalite is more "true to its roots", but I just love the feel of the sapphire version, as well as the seethrough caseback.
Hesalite with solid caseback is more beautiful. Just put a self healing soft TPU film 0.1mm super thin doesn't affect the opacity of the hesalite at all.
And you're as tough as a sapphire!
It's super easy and cheap too.
Oh get the 35mm diameter ones so it covers the curvature .. it's virtually invisible to the naked eye.
Actually Imho the sapphire is more beautiful and that’s what I purchased. Put simply, the movement is so beautiful and amazing it deserves viewing. There’s much talk about authenticity of the hesalite, but the truth is, none of these watches themselves have been on the moon so what you are buying is a homage. I’d buy both if I could.
@@christopherriley5215 if this is your first maybe get the see thru caseback just to satisfy your curiosity. But believe me, the novelty wears out fast then you're just cleaning the back and not looking at the movement.
The novelty lasts barely 1 month.
Likewise the shiny bracelet bits on the sapphire makes it look blingy.
Hesalite also has the lovely dome and distortion on the edges... Just lovely.

Omega and swatch tuned me off of the speedy, I don’t think they cheapened the watch, they just really annoyed me with how they handled the supply situation. This is coming from someone that waited in line release day.
It should have turned you off on Swatch. I could see getting turned off after wearing a Pagani version of a Speedy. It would have a similar feel at a much cheaper price. It could scratch the Speedmaster itch. A Swatch is a Swatch, not a Speedmaster.

Maybe I wasn't clear. Be anti-Swatch, they are playing games. The watch you waited for was a plastic Swatch. It wasn't made in an Omega factory. Omega didn't launch a new plastic watch with only a few copies available. If you're mad at Omega, you're mad at the wrong company.

What does “Looks warmer” mean when referring to the dial? Temperature is commonly felt and not seen.
Glass cold. Plastic warm. Hard cold. Soft warm. Flat plane cold. Curves warm. It's psychological, a biomorphic thing. These subtle signatures of life imply warmth. (I still prefer the sapphire sandwich though.)
