Wow, now THAT is how you do a comparo! Well done, sir! I thoroughly enjoyed that! And man, I am really, really impressed by those JBL's. Course they can bring bass, but the quality of everything? Not too shabby at all! Great stuff.
KEF: neutral and clear (needs dynamic or musical sources to balance) Wharfedale: meaty and musical (needs neutral to bright sources to balance) JBL: bright, tiring (needs sources that bring out the mids and tame the treble to balance)
I was listening to a pair of speakers from KEF that cost between 25-50.000 per speaker, high end price with a horrible sound. Really dont understand what others hear in that brand 😅
Love the diversity in the way each company chose to “arrive” at their own awesome musical conclusions! Technology, brilliant minds, and brilliant minds challenging themselves to present each company’s best efforts! Love it! That the Kefs, which would appear to be easily overmatched(at least in the bells and whistles dept.), compete somewhat evenly, and shine in their own ways, is totally amazing to me! Love the wild wacky world of speaker stuff!!
Warfedale has my vote here for sound. Probably over aesthetics as well if using in a family room. Just sounds like the warfedale plays more notes. more music being given off by them.
Ahahahaha! You win the dumbest comment from a fanboy award. You can't hear any of them to make an informed opinion. You can only hear the video's audio played back through whatever audio device you are using. For you to say X, Y, or Z is better based on ABCD is BS. That's just you being a fan of a brand.
Thanks for sharing. To me, the Lintons sounded the most balanced and natural across the entire frequency range. Very articulate and detailed, without fatiguing exaggerations.
As The Listener graduates from the smaller to the larger sizes, I find that as the units get bigger they handle the more complicated and muddy parts better. Definitely the JBL'S are best of all followed by The Wharfedals. I think the room size and the lack of dampening has something to do with the perception of the sound that's we are getting from the different sized cabinets. To me, the LS50'S would be much more suited for an office or a desk situation where the room is not large. I think that the sound would be more profound in a slightly smaller space. All are good especially at the price points!
The Lintons are the most open and revealing but those JBLs just bring the beef along with the very pleasant highs delivered by those horn loaded tweeters. I purchased the 590s based on your comparison video vs the Klipsch. I have never regretted the purchase. They are amazing when driven by my Sansui AU517 or 9090db.
They're all good sounding speakers depending on every personal listening choice. I have the studio 590 paired to Emotiva XPA using Anthem preamp and I'm so happy with it! I have used and played that same music (Coming Home) with my system seems it's more lively and detailed with no suppression, what I really thought with this demo is the acoustic of the room has played big part of sounds realism. But overall it a nice demo! Thanks Tharbamar....
Thanks Tharbamar, after listening to your demo I had to go out and buy Grace Mahya "Last Recording at Dug." Hard to find CD, and an Import to boot, but what a great CD, and I just purchased a pair of 590's and 4 530's with the huge JBL sale, Thanks.. Steve
The JBL's sound the best to me. The music sounds more lively on them. Perhaps it has something to do with the horn loaded tweeter. They are gorgeous too. The Lintons sound great too, and remind me of the Polk Audio Monitor 7 series, that were popular back in the 80's.
Those JBL look so cool to me. I dig that's spaceship look. I got their 520c center to try out with my Elac ub5. It should be here 24th Dec.! So excited. The ls50 sound amazing. Elac ub5 are smashing this demo for me!
I finally found a new pair of Kefs on sale their just the Q100 got a great deal on them I'm very impressed and blown away that they have so much low end punch at low volumes and very large accurate sound from a small speaker box , i'm using them in a small dedicated music room what gets me is I heard the La50 but at a hifi shop and they didn't sound all that good think it was the room acoustics the room was filled with other speakers and amps these Q100s makes my 14set of speaker's I bought in 5 months lol video review coming soon ! Thank for the video !
Like the look of the JBLs mostly but the best sound to my ears are the Warfedales. I think you have to have a dedicated midrange to help fill the full spectrum of the music in most cases. Great demo.
The linton's sound great! JBL very good to excellent. The LS50 sounds congested. But I've heard them, great for near-field listening. For my office I preferred Focal aria 906 (more efficient, front port allows placement choices, better bass - in my room, and wider soundstage) But will take a liston to the Linton's now. Thx
I agree. I have a pair of Kef C55, I think the first uni-Q generation, and it's a 8" together with a 8" passive radiator and the sound is excellent. I am sure an LS with 8" would be a greater speaker
I have experience listening to kef playing hotel california. I have to say , the front end must be really good to make them sings. To me they are like hd800 . If your equipment not good, the speaker will tell. Alas , this guy front end is good .
Thanks for video . For me is Jbl because KEF has really clean sound but there is no bass means something like missing from melody, it is like torturing your ears that's why u can't go longer with it hours and hours. One thing that I wonder for the KEF, how those sound with a sub?
Agree Jbls may not be flat but give more emotion . And yes the Kefs should sound better with sub although I thought some of the low mids got a little lost.
The JBLs were a little more open in the top end and articulation but I hear a little more hiss so maybe they bumped top end a little more. The Lintons gave them a run for the money. I think for double the price I can turn the treble up a little on the Lintons and match the JBL's. Here's hoping. The Compression Horn Drivers are hard to beat. Thanks for the great comparison. Your subject and the speed with which you set up the comparisons is to be applauded. Bravo.
Sorry guys, JBL wins as it sounds more like the band is there rather than a speaker. Highs more prominent than the Wharfy but not too bright like the KEF. Mids great like the other two. Lows don't sound like they are coming from a box like the other two. Very enjoyable comparison.
Kef sounded like a portable boom box. It just does not produce a big sound compare to the Linton and JBL's. The Linton and JBL's sounded pretty accurate. Each has a different sound presence. If space were an issue, I would get the Linton. If you want deeper bass, get JBL's.
Would love to hear the Wharfedale Linton Heritage vs their EVO 4.2 or EVO 4.3 (price wise a better match). Maybe just using a Cambridge CXA81 or Parasound NewClassic 200 integrated amplifier.
I liked the Wharfedale's the best. I really liked the "knock" of the bass, especially on the kick drum. It was very tight and defined. The vocals were very forward and present in a way I enjoyed. Surprisingly the JBLs may have been my least favorite. They were actually TOO bassy for my tastes. Or maybe it was that the bass was a little flabby? I also felt that the JBL's frequencies sounded too "separate." At times it felt like the higher pitched instrument were coming from a different speaker. I'd have to hear them live to really know, of course. My headphones are adding their own character.
I can guarantee that any boominess of the bass your hearing is just due to the fact that you're listening to a recording in a room. I've done a similar recording of my amateur built speakers and the recording made it seem like they had WAY more bass than they actually did. As a big JBL fan, I also agree that the wharfedales sounded sweet! I preferred them to the JBLs as well
Bought the Klipsch RP160m When they were on sale a week ago. Just bought the JBL Studio 530 a few days ago. Comparing the two I noticed big differences that are making me want to buy the Studio 590 as soon as they go on sale. The Klipsch have very impressive bass, But when the music is good I find myself increasing the volume wanting more. The Klipsch quickly become fatiguing and harsh on the high tones which is disappointing and prevents me from enjoying them at high volumes. Based on the appearance of the JBL speakers i had expected them to lack bass and be bright on the top. But i am quite pleased to say the opposite. The JBL530 have good bass and relaxed highs. Even at low volumes the bass is clear and detailed. As I increase the volume the character stays the same, Never have the highs sounded harsh or bright on these. The only downside is that I keep wanting more volume out of them but I think I reached the limit on what these small woofers can do. It is time for the big 590's.
The next time they go on sale may be the last time you see the 590 new, looks like they actually are clearing them out, center is out of stock and sub too and neither have come back in stock for a while, I think this is it for the line. I grabbed 6 590 at the last sale and two 530. I'm thinking I will grab another pair of 530.
JBL lost the soul of the song... Keff were too bright to me... Wharfedale low freqwency helped by its woofer... I choose Wharfedale for the better sound on this song...
I think JBL needed to make a center the same mass as the 590 just squat with the woofers next to each other and the tweeter turned sideways on top. It maybe the same size woofers flanking the tweeter.
They are overrated IMO, at least I sold mines when I bought a pair of Revel’s M16 which are the “cheap” ones, far more realistic highs, more open sound and less fatigue, but sound is subjective anyways
Can some one help me? Say I was to listen to a Brahms symphony through the wharfedale lintons would it sound incredible? I do not know anything about audiophiles or whatever I just want a truly top tier listening experience for my classical music and on occasion 70s prog rock. And I hear the lintons are good for long sessions.
I'll go with JBL. Not sure though how much the room influence the sound quality, but it sound more natural and balance to me using Audeze X headphone with WA8 headphone amp. And I like your music record too. Thanks.
I've seen so many reviews of all speakers. I'm no audiophile and need to get back the hifi I don't have at this time. I'm just not looking anymore. It's not because of this video. but I'm gonna start with the Linton. I need to hear all my vynal before I die. I'll take all advice on the minimal set up I would need,,such as a receiver or anything that will make my phono happy. Thanks .
Tharbamar I have one suggestion, first of all thanks for your time, love the chance to demo speakers, I think you’re recording the speakers with the mic a bit too far from the speakers, i feel like the mics are picking up the room too much, the reflections, echoing, etc. I would encourage you to try it. thanks again
The main problem is the spacing - you should set them up as ABC, ABC, not ABC, CBA. Now the speaker width is variable as is the distance to the walls, which is giving the JBLs a more spacious sound due to side wall reflections.
@@matsudakodo wrong. The JBL like about 6-8 feet and a face squared arrangement. It's the manual , it's in my bedroom 2 pair. Tubes do play with the effective spacing as do buffers. They are at a disadvantage in the video. Not an advantage.
LS50 are the only ones with no smeared bass / mids / mid-bass bleeding. The LS50 are very fast, deep, lifelike, detailed and large sounding (the only ones that made me go wow is all that sound coming from that tiny box?). TBH, they all sound about the same size through the video. The Wharfedale are in the middle and JBL smear the worst and have the least lifelike detail: it's a close race but still the difference between sounding like a box speaker and a live concert. That's my opinion listening through Sennheiser HD600. I don't hear what you all are raving about with the JBL - they sound boxy in the mid-bass and less clean sounding relative to the LS50. I can understand the highs of the KEF being loud, but it is likewise loud with the other 2.
Thanks for the video, but for future ones, it would be smart to leave the name of the speaker which is on all along so that one can easy jump in the video, knowing which one he's listening to at any time...
How well do the Lintons image? Do they disappear if driven correctly? Out of the three the Lintons sounded the best through my phone, you can sense the room better I feel with those, the JBLs are nice I’ve heard but in this instance they just seem really flat and boring.
If you want 3d imaging then dont go near the Lintons. They are hard to position and even then at best have only reasonable depth and bugger all width. Some people do like this however. None of that matters to me when the tweeter fitted to Linton/Denton is such a piece of poo.
If you like JBL 590 you need to listen to some real JBL hi-end with compression drivers for example JBL Array 1400 :) These will blown you out the chair! :)
WLHs sound better with grilles on apparently. The kefs got a bit confused at the key change ,to me it sounded like 2 bands were playing at the same time !!??
The Lintons sound more relaxed. Might be great for vocals and instruments. LS50 ... well ... as usual. It’s that LS50 sound. I find they are great for HT duties and general music listening. The 590 seems to be in between. Might be a good compromise. Got the LS50 recently and was not impressed. It’s not as great as how reviewers rave about it.
Amigo Z ... the Duke 2s are really good speakers. In a small room you gotta keep it away from the front wall. The bass is strong if near the front wall. Mine are about 3’ away. The 2 reviews below are very accurate. Try the new Oscar Duo. It’s sealed box and cheaper. www.the-ear.net/review-hardware/marten-heritage-duke-2-standmount-loudspeaker www.stereonet.co.uk/reviews/review-marten-duke-2-standmount-speakers
Great video. In your opinion, being that no speaker is perfect, which is the most REVEALING, DETAILING, ANALYTICAL speaker (or bookshelf speaker) you've ever heard? Thanks a lot for your opinion!
The Lintons for me - the seemed the most natural and dare I say it, the most open-sounded. The LS50s came over as boxy and the JBLs slightly nasal on vocals. Ii wouldn't buy any speakers without a lot of listening and ideally A/B comparisons between my favourites with a wide range of music styles. Thanks for this - most helpful.
Hey Tharbamar. I am seriously looking at: JBL Studio 590 or 580, or Wharfedale Linton or Klipsch RP8000. Because I had some customer service problems with JBL few years ago, they are offering me 20% off any purchase. Right now the Studio 580's are on sale for 300/each but if I wait for the 590's to go on sale for 450/each which does happen now and than, I can use that 20% discount. My room is carpeted, furnished, paneling, and drop ceiling, and is in basement...my man cave..LOL. What you think: Still try the Studio 590's? or 580's? or something else? I don't like the KEF's or any KEF's because they hurt my ears. Go figure. I got a vintage Mitsubishi dual mono block amp that is just plan sweet. Appreciate your input. Peace.
Kef LS50 a bit fullbodied sound, doesn't seem that open and clear although the highs are a bit loud, high,Linton Heritage has some frequencys where it either sound lower than it should or a bit canny, bass doesn't sound tight and deep.JBL Studio 590 highs are still a bit loud, mabye it's the recording, bass a little better than the Linton Heritage but it might be your unthreated room that is not so good with bass, since non of the 3 speakers sound good in the bass or could it also be the amp?
These JBL's have impressed me in every single sound demo that I've heard them in. They're good. Clarity all around is very good. Great presence and impact overall. I like their sound signature. I will own these SOON!
hello, you can hear a video comparing: Wharfedale EVO 4.2 Wharfedale Linton Heritage but with the same music and the same electronic components. I look forward to it. Thanks, thanks. please , please .
the LS50's bore you becasue theyre just tony spoeakers and will never resproduce full scale of music. they are fine for near field listening, but no good if you really want to rock out to music in a medium to large room
I have heard this recording many times now and the KEFs were a crazy mess with “tons” of sound all over the place, but is that what the recording really sounds like and the others are too tight? What is it supposed to sound like? Like others said, with the KEF, you kind of sound like you’re in a coffee house, but are you supposed to? Enjoymentwise, Linton…
The winner to me is the JBL. It gives the best imaging, sound detail, and soundstage. Kef feels compressed. Wharfedale is better than the Kef, but the bass feels a little bit boomy and less definition compared to JBl.
Kef
(0:01 bass) (0:25 vocal) (1:51 hammond) (6:40 bass)
Wharfedale
(7:04 bass) (7:30 vocal) (8:56 hammond) (13:44 bass)
Jbl
(14:10 bass) (14:36 vocal) (16:02 hammond) (20:51 bass)
Up you go ⬆️⬆️
Much appreciated!!
Thanks 😊

The Lintons were a good mix of the other two. I like how the JBL’s reached down low but the Lintons seemed to reveal more of the song.
The JBLs are the only ones that give me impression of being in a cozy lounge listening to the performance. But they all sound good in their way.
Yes, because of the room's poor acoustics.

I hear you man. Just don't have the dynamics and effortlessness of the bigger speakers.
To be fair, that's a pistol to rifle to cannon comparo. The KEF is clearly outgunned.
:D
wireless ls50 have way more dynamics.
They are good speakers but not great, thanks
Pretty amazing that the LS50 can match the other 2. Linton would be good but sub is mandatory. Jbl for bigger room. Man that LS50 is impressive.
match? they really dont! lol
Those 590's are HUGE!!!
Thank you. Finally someone who is doing this right.
Another great test!!
Interesting sound demo. 👍👍👍
The JBL speakers seem more relaxed and accurate. They fill the listening space better with a live like sensation over the other speakers.
Because of the extended low end not boosted and high end boost; comparded to the other speakers
Funny - I totally disagree...Thank God there's more than one opinion in this world..Cheers mate!
it's hard to give a definitive verdict but I liked the Lintons over the rest... not by much though
The Lintons for me.
Thanks
.
I mean, that is how you are going to hear them.
Not an advantage.
agree, wd prefer nearfield mics so that what we hear will be less colored by room acoustics
IMO
1) JBL 590
2) Wharfdale Linton Heritage
3) Kef LS50
agree, KEFs were way too bright and I'm wondering why so many reviewing r giving rave reviews on it
I actually like the Wharfedales the best I think.
Nopre,Warfs are the best here
I would have liked to have heard the Wharfedales with the covers on to get a better impression.
Bro what mic, camera and post video editing have you use for this upload? Can you do a list and walkthrough of your video capture setup?
The KEF punch above their weight, but nice sound. The Wharfedales were excellent. The JBL needed more room but still sounded good a little bit bright.
What are those white things holding up the speaker cable?
cable risers for dust protection.
jbl 590 is the best speaker I ever listened to
jbl studio 590 is the best of the rest .cheers
If you like JBL 590 you need to listen to some real JBL hi-end with compression drivers for example JBL Array 1400 :) These will blown you out the chair! :)
Love my JBL studio 580’s. I prefer the 580’s over the 590’s. Had both and though the driver integration was better on the 580.
WLHs sound better with grilles on apparently. The kefs got a bit confused at the key change ,to me it sounded like 2 bands were playing at the same time !!??
Good morning friend..What link to speakres cable lifts ???
@@kohnfutner9637 Good morning friend ... Thanks for your attention, can you give me the link of this product !!
@@edermartins3793 look up cable clips on Amazon you'll see several to choose from
@@kohnfutner9637 Thank you friend I found it !!! If you have any speakers or amplifiers to sell let me know !! Ok !!
incredible that those tiny kefs can produce that sound, they win just for that reason
It’s not as great as how reviewers rave about it.
hushpuppykl do you like your duke 2 i saw comments you has them? Are they picky for room? Small ones?
Amigo Z ... the Duke 2s are really good speakers. In a small room you gotta keep it away from the front wall. The bass is strong if near the front wall. Mine are about 3’ away.
The 2 reviews below are very accurate. Try the new Oscar Duo. It’s sealed box and cheaper.

What electronic have and how big is your room?
Great video. In your opinion, being that no speaker is perfect, which is the most REVEALING, DETAILING, ANALYTICAL speaker (or bookshelf speaker) you've ever heard? Thanks a lot for your opinion!
Lower end Focal and Canton speakers for me, detail, cold and without any depth with my integrated or separate amps.
Tharbamar thanks. Last question please, what do you think about Martin Logan Motion LX16 or 15? Thank you very much!!
I’ve heard 35XT I’m not sure if I can listen to them for everyday.
Fantásticos altavoces y gran trabajo 👏🏻 de..pero lo q más me ha encantado y gustado es el tema,la canción 🎵..xapooo por elegir esta canción o song
Espectacular canción…lovint this swing cool cool music..jazz adicto
Felicidades a Kef por el trabajo con estas Ls 50.. ❤ el mejor bass para JBL
I would use shorter snippets overall but I'd definitely choose the 590s anyway
Peace.
Thanks for the comparison. BTW, don't you miss some thick carpeting there? It should help to keep the sound and harmonics under control :--)
Please see my latest video for updates.
Lintons would be great if they had that dynamic snap of the JBLs.
Nice comparison 👍
Sale is on now
@@rumporridge1 Hey bro. I got them early last year. Love em!
@@rumporridge1 I got em for $500/1 speaker, but I see they've gotten as low as $399. That's an absolutely STEAL!
@@Larwiz yea bro. Just ordered a second pair of 580’s and a pair of 590’s. So now have the whole set of the 5 series. Ridiculous value vs sound stage.
@@rumporridge1 Nice! So you have the 530s and 570s also?
Can't find grace mahya on tidal
Would love to see a review of PSAs speakers.
JBL 590👏
THARBAMAR giving audiophiles what they love 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
JBL splits the difference perfectly
sounds better than the original song. Cool Systems
Is it me or do the KEFs sound congested. I definitely prefer the litton and JBL. The Littons are warmer, but the JBLs are really entertaining.
590's with a tube amp rock. Mine are on 18 inch stands to get them off the floor.
Clearly only one winner in the looks department. 👌
hello, you can hear a video comparing:
Wharfedale EVO 4.2
Wharfedale Linton Heritage
but with the same music and the same electronic components.
I look forward to it. Thanks, thanks. please , please .
EVO 4.3 is a better price match. I would include it in a 3-way comparison.
I liked the JBLs for bass foundation and energy, the Lintons for overall sonic signature. The LS50s bored me.
the LS50's bore you becasue theyre just tony spoeakers and will never resproduce full scale of music. they are fine for near field listening, but no good if you really want to rock out to music in a medium to large room
How do you still think of Jbl 530s?
I still like them a lot, thanks
Las Wharfedale Linton son las mejores, las más entretenidas...
Wharfedale Lintons are the winner👍
The winner to me is the JBL. It gives the best imaging, sound detail, and soundstage. Kef feels compressed. Wharfedale is better than the Kef, but the bass feels a little bit boomy and less definition compared to JBl.
Wow, im impressed with LS50 more as the other 2 are much larger yet still do not deliver the same refinement, detail and better balance.
