    First time seeing a fly being made, half of me is surprised at how simple it is and the other half is surprised at how much work goes into it. It's a lovely craft with a truly beautiful finished product. Fascinating too, it shares so much in common with traditional bowyer techniques like string serving and whatnot. I absolutely felt that struggle of keeping the fur out of the pelt wrap...I use mink strips as a string silencer, it's such fine hair and no amount of petting it back keeps it in place 😮‍💨

      I love the comparison and the parallels! Rabbit and mink share that wild movement because of the fine hairs - had to slick them back to make this one work :)

      @@shetiesflies you make it look easy though, it generally takes me the duration of this video to get two 8" long poofs to stay put on the string while fighting those intrusive thoughts of just using superglue 😅
      I like the way you whip each individual piece onto the hook, I may attempt that for keeping the pelt securely in place. Currently I'm using a constrictor knot, but my goodness is it fiddly trying to hold everything in place while tightening the knot...this looks way more convenient.

    I used to sit for hours watching my dad make his own flies. It was pretty neat to watch !

    When you wet your fingers and slicked back the hair all i could think about was 'cause tonight will be the night that i will die for you, over again" 😂❤

    Lovely fly. Very nice tie. I'll size them up to 2/0 and 4/0 in red and black maribou. I think they'll work for peacock bass and roosters. Great to see it swim.

    Pretty pretty! I'm curious, do fish have good enough color vision that the colors of the materials actually matter?

      @spinejackel 11 днів тому +2

      most fish can see in color, the shallower water they live in, the better they can see color usually (deep water fish have bad color vision for example)
      archer fish have fantastic color vision for example as they hunt for food above the water surface and they have remarkable aim

      Too add to what @spinejackel mentioned, often the fly color matters in congruence with the water color. The name of the game is contrast :)

    Nicely done, Erin. I have been salt water fishing once for Striped Bas at the Cape Cod area. Very powerful fish. Fn to catch. Tried for Blue fish. No luck. Looking forward to your next tie..
