A kayak journey from Vancouver Island to Alaska through the Inside Passage that took place from June-July 2010.
Proof that anyone with dedication, regardless of initial skill level, can enjoy the world's wild spaces.
Original score, developed specifically for the film; created and preformed by Gary Pereira.

I just took up kayaking and this is so inspirational. I live in Cowichan Bay on a sailboat, and the kayak is a great way to see all the little spots the big boat can't get to.
Most excellent documentary worthy of public TV. Thanks for sharing this adventure with us.
Are you Canadians kidding me? No experience required for almost 2 months of kayaking expedition? I’m truly impressed by your adventurous spirit to do such heavy lifting trip, you guys did great, amazing! I’m an adventurous person having many outdoors canoeing journeys in BWCA, Minnesota, and many other hiking camping trips in Alaska and Washington state, but have never done a trip to wilderness longer than 7 days. Anyway, hats off to you all. Thank you for sharing your happy journey filled with laughters. My next adventure with girlfriend and a coworker is a kayaking trip to Glacier Bay, Alaska, in a month or so. It’s exciting, but very anxious too on the planning and the outside factors that are out of our control. Anyway, kudos to you all for an incredible journey! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love when people share these videos. Kayaking while sea sick is just so miserable, you can't explain it to people who haven't experienced it... Good on you for pushing through. Most people would just give up after that. One item at the top of my bucket list is to paddle the inside passage. Thanks for sharing.
I've been doing paddling trips all my adult life. Always with groups of friends, not guided. I'm 69. You guys get what its all about. It was wonderful to see you all go through it. There are those days when you are getting into the groove. The days when you have it down. And then the re-entry. You had a wonderful trip. Takes me at least a week or two to get re-adjusted to life in civilization after re-entry. There is a period of depression. I've been worried recently that maybe I've been on my last trip. But, watching you all makes me know I will be at it again before long. Just got to get this US Canadian border opened up again. I do agree with comment below about taking risks. Sometimes we don't even realize the risks we take. But, you did great and you managed to avoid disaster. You had the trip of a lifetime. For others watching this - consider building up to a trip like this by doing smaller stuff and developing skills first. The dangers of sea kayaking on open water, or canoe tripping in wild places, are quite real. I little more prep could help you avoid real disaster.
I'm so in love with this, thank you for sharing your trip, the struggles and the joy.
This is what life is about, not status, not things, not money,................this. Good friends, good times, great memories for a life time.
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf recently :)
@Alec Ethan Definitely, I've been using instaflixxer for years myself =)
@Alec Ethan definitely, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself :)
as a long time sea kayak guide and now an office guy, I loved seeing your film. thanks!
Your journey made me very happy and inspired 🙂
Found this video just after being laid off. Thank you for showing me that paddling will be a great way to spend some "time off".
I was impressed by how expensive all their gear was. The drysuits alone cost a small fortune.
Wonderful video and so inspiring. I'm just getting into kayaking and this has given me even more inspiration. Well done and thanks for sharing, it put a smile on my face and gave me goosebumps, it's what it's all about!
Im off to buy my first Kayak. Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful.. I'm a retired military veteran, because of issues beyond my control finding gainful employment is difficult. But, now I intend on taking control back. My intention and plan is to guide kayak/canoe expositions on rivers and waterways in my area. There will be a focus on wounded vets to help heal and find their center again. This video didn't plant the seed for adventure but it is a source of inspiration... Good job
im still in the service. where are you at out of curiosity?
+David C near Winston Salem NC..
+David C I'm in the early stages of planning a trip from the head waters of the Yadkin river to where it leads out into the internists water ways of NC to raise donations for Fisher House and other local Vet charities...
Bravo to you sir. Army Combat Vet here as well. Iraq 2006-2007. 4th ID

Thank you Wonderful people for sharing a little piece of your magical life.
Great trip, you really inspire me to hit the water. It was really neat watching how much all your skill level and confidence grew throughout the trip. Truly a life changing trip.
Thanks for taking the time to check it out and to share in our journey. It was a life changing trip, in an incredible corner of our planet. I hope you do hit the water and explore the big backyard closest to you.
Great movie, it could even be longer, I wanted to keep watching it!

This just came up in my UA-cam feed for the first time. My brother and I paddled the inside passage in 1974, and dreamed of making a similar movie to this. We were limited by technology and money back then but this movie did a great job of bringing back many memories. Excellent job of capturing a lot of the emotions, transitions, and team dynamics of the journey. Last year (2017) my brother and I along with my two sons returned to complete the Ketchikan to Juneau segment. This time my son, Nathan, ( a professional film maker with Days Edge Productions) was able to capture some of the trip in a 25 minute film called "The Passage".
What I love about the movie he made is how the work, toil. exposure, and prolonged paddling . i.e. just an adventure canoe trip, can transcend into themes that's universal in all our lives.
Your film is an enjoyable and unvarnished look at the passage. Our version of "the Passage" is a little bit about what happens 43 years after such trips and how these trips shape who we become.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and for your lovely comments. I'll check out "The Passage" thanks for the link. And how wonderful to be able to return and have that experience with your sons. Every spring I do a 7-10 day trip with friends and keep exploring all the incredible corners of our coast. I feel so privileged to live in a place where this is our Big Backyard.
I am watching your video for the third time. I have been planning this same trip for five years, and have finally booked the time off from work to do this solo starting June 2017. You have made a fantastic video encompassing all the aspects of this life changing adventure. Thank you!
Awesome video! What a great trip.
You should get all your friends together and make another movie vid of you guys in another adventure, seriously! I really enjoyed watching this, You need a part 2.
Hi, i`m a keen kayaker from N.Ireland i just do day trips locally i was just

i started watching your well planned and beautifully shot video i was hooked
and compelled to watch it all!
Well done guys,more please!
Thank you so much! Well done! AMAZING!! I just a finished a 6 week adventure, kayaking, biking, hiking, and sleeping in my car from Colorado, through 5 provinces, Acadia, Vermont, New York. Definitely not wanting it to be over! Inspired to plan the next trip!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Well done Christina! Thanks for taking us along with you on your wilderness paddling adventure. Well filmed, narrated and edited. Loved your banter and humour, even when challenges arose. Watching from Australia in December 2021. Who else is watching now?
While world governments go gestapo, trying to inject everyone on the planet numerous times with experimental fast-tracked liability free drugs that don't work, all the more reason to get out there. Leave the madness behind. Push off on outdoor adventures. Good on you Christina and crew!
you guys have been some super inspiration for me. I've kayaked the Yukon river from whitehorse to dawson city twice. i currently live in whitehorse yukon and i will be paddling from skagway to sechelt bc summer 2016. thanks for the amazing video!!
What a brilliant feel good video good views, good experiences, and good friends perfect recipe for a great adventure.
Well done. You captured the reality and essence of an expedition brilliantly.
Hello Band of 5. Loved your video and liked the Adventure in it. Like all adventures it always has a learning curve. Glad everyone stayed safe. The waves look crazy from you camera view and keeping you all in view. Thanks for making the video. I have been looking at kayaks and can't make up my mind weather a sea kayak or a cross over. Well Around Seattle out.
This is one of my go to inspiration films when I need a jolt of enthusiasm.

Simply awesome video. Must have been amazing. I live in nyc, heading to orcas WA thursday to take a 3 day lesson. Then coming back home and practicing in and around the hudson. Watching you all helped me to realize I can plan some great trips this summer. The best parts for me are the fact that you got off the treadmill of life and your relationship with each other. Thank you cheers

Loved this.
fantastic documentation of a fantastic adventure :) very inspiring :)
Inspiring video, thank you!
Inspirational.
Great video
outstanding film
Love your idea from conception to the final day paddling. Maybe a stronger single malt would have calmed the wind. ‘Balvenie’ is a nice dram but I feel an ‘Ardbeg Corryvreckan’ would have had an affect on the weather gods 😬
Thanks for posting 👍
Great efforts awesome video, hats off!
Love it!!!!! Do you have a gear list? thanks for making such a fun and educational movie. s
Fun stuff !
Fantastic
cool people,cool trip

Nice movie. Really enjoyed it! :-)
Amazing trip!
Nice would like to kayak that route one day
I loved watching the movie of your adventures, I live in Poole, Dorset, in the UK where we have some wonderful sea kayaking. I am keen to fit a sail to my own boat and wondered if you could give me some details of the system you guys all used on your trip?
Recently took to kayaking and been wondering if I can really do it with my modest stamina level-your video is inspiring. Well done.
Awesome video! What a great trip.
Years ago I gave a talk on sea kayaking to a very upscale group of sea kayakers in NYC. I began my talk by asking for a show of hands as to how many in the audience had a college degree. Nearly every hand went up. I then asked how many had a masters or were working on one. Lot of hands went up. Finally I asked how many had doctorates or were working one one. Surprisingly, a fair number of hands went up. I then added, I am here today to introduce you to the University of The Sea where all tests are pass or fail, no makeups allowed. Please be aware that the first test you fail may be the last one you get to take! My point was that while our educational system encourages us to be willing to take risks and make mistakes the sea, the mountains, the rivers, the out of doors in general, are not very forgiving. You screw up, you pay for it! So rule #1 for sea kayakers is Don't tip over! Rule #2 is Stay within your competency level! and rule #3 is Don't count on getting help if you do screw up!
All that said this group of young people took a big risk in tackling a trip like this without any real sea kayaking experience. Happily they were very fortunate and thus survived their "learning experience" at the University of The Sea. A religious person might conclude that "someone" was watching over them. A poker player might just say they had "good luck." But make no mistake about it this trip could easily have ended with a much less happy ending.
I'm glad that didn't happen and I am pleased that these youngsters survived the trip and seemed to learn a lot in the process. But with more than 65 years on the sea in various watercraft and thousands of miles of sea kayaking if they'd asked for my advice before setting off I'd probably have advised against it because while some people survive their ignorance others do not...
Hi Barry. Thank you so much for checking it out!
Wow, you guys really seem to have done a good job on this journey. Was surprised about the whole group dynamic thing that is mentioned. No leader? Really? just everyone getting along super well without anyone just being a little bossy from time to time? Not often to see that, must have been amazing :) Thanks for the video.
great trip.
I am planing on doing a river trip with a canoe next year from the big horn dam to edmonton alberta
