As someone who has lived in and loved Winston-Salem my entire 50 year life, I really hope no one bases their opinion of this city on this video. I recommend people read about Old Salem, as well as our vibrant downtown and arts offerings. FYI, Hanging Rock is not in Winston-Salem.
I am surprised the Downtown Arts Disrict as whole was not mentioned, as the murals and piping art are apart of that. There are also alot of nice art galleries and shops in the art district.
I was born and raised in Winston-Salem. As an antiques dealer, I spend a lot of time in Paris, London, Asia, New York etc. But I must say W-S still holds my heart. It is a wonderful town. Not too small and not too big...Perfect!
Mrs. Hanes' cookie shop. Her cookies are delicious. Just went there today; drove over from Tennessee. Bought her memoir, cookbook, cookies and a Moravian star. Beautiful area, immaculate store, beautiful products, very helpful staff. Also swung by Hanging Rock State Park. It was very foggy at the park. A gorgeous park. North Carolina has a lot to offer. Mountains and the beach. We love the Outer Banks and Wilmington beaches
We just spent four days in W-S taking in the sights. Reynolda was #1 for me followed by Old Salem which was barely mentioned. There really wasn't all that much to see and do at Bethabara and Bethania compared to Old Salem. Hanging Rock State Park is a good 45 minutes outside of W-S. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to visit Graylin. Next time maybe.
Pretty bad pronunciation of some words, and Salem Lake is more like on the edge of the city. But otherwise kind of cool. Also wondering how Old Salem didn’t make the list. It’s one of the most unique things of any American city.
I have noticed that it’s been closed a lot lately but I didn’t know it was out of business, I love that place. Oh also, Cugino Forno’s pizza is the best pizza I’ve ever had
"Old Salem" is a corporation that runs tours and museums and is active in historical preservation. The name of the village is Salem. On account of Old Salem's advertising, many people conflate the name of the corporation with the name of the village. I used to do this too. But I know better now. It's Salem.

How did Old Salem NOT make the list? Also, unfortunately Black Mountain Chocolate is no longer in business. A real shame bc it was a neat place.
