I was hooked by the Kia Picanto since 2004. It was a cute, reliable, fun car to drive. Having a Picanto as your first car won't be a problem. I'm planning to get one soon. Hopefully✌🏻

I had 6 Picantos in my office staff fleet, only one out of the 6 cars had major engine trouble after 240k+ km on the odometer It's a good small reliable car

240km! Most of my cars never it made much past 160km.
We now have two KIA Picanto's and a Hyundai Trajet.
Trajet is 16 years old and drives like new.
I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I went with the Tucson because I wanted AWD. It has been one of the biggest mistakes. The first was getting a Hyundai. They don’t care about their consumers. My car has been blowing headlights- having electrical issues (my auto windows go back down when you roll them up, my rear windshield wipers go off whenever they want, my break light seems to go on and off at random. I have reached out because as a company they should only want the best products out there. I was told that “because my car is over 3 years old. There is nothing they can do for me. To bring it to a dealer and “see what I can get” for it. I owe more than it’s worth because one thing they don’t tell you when you buy a Hyundai is they depreciate way faster than you can make payments to survive. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI.
We have a 2012 picanto bought since it got released and still in good form never got any trouble just some break and oil changing

They treat all Hyundai cars and owners nicely. Even if it is a 2003 Getz or an ex taxi Avega (Accent), they'll try to do their best.
Although Hyundai isn't as popular as other brands like Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, or Suzuki, so their dealers aren't as many as those four (but at least there are one or two in a city).

We have one in our family. It's an absolute joy and very impressive little car. It gets picked to do fast runs to drop off children or pick up shopping as it's a peach to drive. Easy to park and so well equipped.

I enjoyed your review. The 2021 model is due in Australia in the third quarter of this year. It will be interesting to see what safety equipment they remove for our models as they seem to strip them out to keep the price lower here.

i am Indian, i am using this picanto in saudi arabia. since 2018. It is fantastic model and very reliable car.(not trouble maker).Spare parts like filter are little bit costly than hyundai i10.(hyundai parts are same as kia).If undertand car effeciency you can get greatfun in driving.i love this car very much and maintain the car according to factory manual.i will suggenst every one those who want city car, best to buy this model.iIforget to tell, that you can fold back seat compleatly to get more luggage space like SUV.

The Picanto is really nice. My friend has a previous generation one. It has 220,000 kms on it. It didn't give a single day's trouble. It drove over pavements, on dirt roads, been in fender benders, drove 1200kms in a day and everything still works. Even the sunroof. It would be great if it had a small turbo engine though. And it is quite stable at highway speeds and interior is well put together. Has some nice big car features too. The biggest let down is the engine.

The engine sounds pretty nice, like a tiny 6-cylinder
I got my Kia 1 Litre Picanto X-Line S AMT 2022 (auto) a couple of weeks ago. Looks very pretty in Astro Grey, with its little fake exhausts, haha; so, to reiterate, Kia have stopped the sunroof in the UK, also no Park position on the gear selector, no Lane Keep Assist, no Torque Vectoring System either (I think), no rear boot lower parcel shelf supports to allow a flat boot floor option. The suspension is quite choppy over London roads. Fuel consumption seems not as good as it’s predecessor, a Honda Jazz hybrid but I’m scared to check it. Your absolutely right, it’s not a fast car but it does go in my garage and I am able get out and to open the boot! So it’s not all bad. 😆

I'm currently looking at the latest UK Picanto similar to your spec. The latest gearbox is an AMT, Automated Manual Transmission, hence no P position and as you've found out needs starting in Neutral. What's your opinion of this AMT system? From what I've seen it's best to let off the throttle slightly and it'll change up when you want it to. They also say if you don't lift your foot off the throttle it's very jerky if leaving it to do it's own changes at higher programmed revs? I may look for the previous true auto gearbox (as shown on this model) but will try and test drive both.
Would be fun to see a sportier model, like VW makes the Up! GTI or Suzuki Swift Sport

Its had a very good 4 speed torque converter box, then they dropped it!, but its coming back with the dreaded DST automated manual next year. Why not a 6 speed torque converter box?

Take a look at the VW Lupo 3L. To this day it has the best fuel efficiency of all consumer cars and it's almost 20 years old.

My 2 year old, 20,000 mile, Picanto 3 with 1.25 litre engine and 4 spd torque converter automatic gearbox does 60mph in 8.5 second.
i got the Kia Picanto 2020 GT Line few days ago but the 1.250cc with 85hp.
0-100 is under 10seconds I don't remember exactly how much... but when you get to lets say 140/160kph in a highway...i was damn impressed on how good ride and stability this little City cars has! seriously it feels almost like driving a wv Polo size and weight car! It also has torque and pools great in City traffic lights roundabouts etc.
The equipment that it comes as standard (besides cruise control which I don't care) is beyond this planet for a car that cost me 13.000€! the other cars in its category is empty with terrible steel wheels and inside just an ashtray... and to get to the level of KIA they wanted another 3.000€+++ at least!
if that car had a turbo with that engine even with that old fashion cvt type gearbox...it would be perfect! ♥️ in the city now i don't take my Cupra Leon 2018, i prefer and i enjoy the KIA for some errands around towns..🤣
cannot agree with you more. Even at 150-160Km/h the picanto still very stable and well handle.

Looks great for a small car is this taking the place of the Kia Rio Greed for tight roads and small parking spaces I think it's great for a starter car especially when you don't want your teenager going too fast I'm sure it gets excellent gas mileage to perfect for City traffic always impressed with Kia and Hyundai for providing a car for every niche of the market

@@AsianPetrolhead efficient? 28-35 mpg is not exactly efficient but fairly normal for any small petrol car. You would have to go diesel for more mpg.
We have these at work I have driven 2000 miles in one and I'm hooked reliable fun car I loved it only thing I disliked is the doors locked I guess that's a safety thing but it's annoying, and the seats are a bit uncomfy on a long journey but other than that I can't fault it, am I right there is a turbo version lol 😂

In Australia we miss out on the sunroof, no auto with the turbo, no blind spot or lane keeping, no heated/cooled seats etc.. Not even going to be an option when we get this new model in a couple of months.
