I had a black 1999 Buick Regal GS. I loved that car. It got me through college and law school. It was very reliable, except the heated seats (which the tester in this review doesn’t have; the heated seat buttons were on either side of the traction control button below the cup holders) which failed twice. The back seat in that car was so comfortable. The way the back rests were shaped/curved just made it so comfortable and relaxing. Also, I remember the optional Monsoon stereo was really good. The sunroof inexplicably broke such that it was crooked and rain could drip in. I found out that the sunroof problem was a common issue with the Regal, Intrigue, and Grand Prix. I had to pay out of pocket to have a new sunroof installed as it happened after the warranty expired, so I wrote Buick a letter stating that they should issue a recall. To my surprise, Buick wrote me back and reimbursed me 50%, which they had no obligation to do. Very much appreciated! Anyway, great memories!
I always love these things back in the day. These were considered pretty darn quick for what they were but like somebody else said it’s crazy a new Prius is this fast
I'm not disagreeing but everyone should know Motorweek tends to have slower 0 to 60 times than everyone else. This car is a little faster than 7 seconds.
the prius is almost as fast, these do 6.7 and 14.9 all day stock plus are more comfortable and last way longer than a prius. A prius after only 8 years won't be doing so good while these Buicks are still just as good over 15 years later.. not much comparison with price either.. the fuel savings of the prius don't come near to making up for the high cost of purchase, maintenance and lack of any long term reliability. Plus used Prius' are so ugly. Signs are pointing to the old sc Buicks.
I'm not sure why but I'm proud to say I'm Buying a 1999 Buick Regal GS, I'm pretty much getting the car for nothing, $1200 for a car that was elderly owned since new, 43,347 miles on the clock and it has the maintenance records from the same dealership it was bought from, garage kept never been beat on etc no rust at all and that's hard to find in upstate NY, the leather and interior is in pristine condition, not a drop of oil or dirt under the Hood, I'm buying it to replace my 2011 Ford Focus SeS that is on the way out of the world, the rust got to it to bad even though I've spent a ton of money on car washes, taken it to get detailed etc , the motor and transmission are both like new even with 450,000 miles on them, that's pretty good for a cheap grocery getter with leather interior and a sunroof that still works without leaking, it's just time for something else and I'm sorry to see my Focus go but it's not worth fixing anymore, I'm pulling the motor and transmission and the rest of my little rust bucket ford is off to car heaven.
I had a 97 gs and it was my first nice car after yrs of beaters. The 3.8 supercharged engine was pretty quick and fun to get on. It was just a nice car overall and I miss it.
My coworker had a 1999 Regal in green with the supercharger. I remember him telling me he loved driving the car and what a sleeper it was. He said people would try to pass him on the highway with no success.
I had this exact one and color with the Monsoon sound system...a 2002. Absolutely loved it. Loved the open head rests. Only thing i hated was the huge granny radio knob. 😂
I owned a 97 regal LS for 12 years. Mine did have the GT suspension. Now I own a 2005 Century Special Edition with the GT suspension. Little less power than the Regal but handles the same!
The dealer invoice for my century doesn't show the GT suspension as a part of the special edition package, but , the build sheet and the sticker in the trunk with the option codes shows the suspension code as FE3! s@davidsoto7114
after 8 years it won't, meanwhile for not even 1/10th of the price, the regal will still do 6.7 and 14.9 quarter (faster than the prius) 15 years later lol and way more comfortably.
So many of the Centuries still around in good shape, where are all the Regals? Few and far between and never as well cared for despite being much cooler.
I saw a used tricked-out white one on the lot a few years ago and almost took the plunge. It was loaded and I figured the mechanical and electronic gremlins in the thing would eat me alive. We'll never know, but I was tempted.
I don't think that backseat cupholder would be very good at holding cups since its a 30 degree angle. xD however if you are stopping the car in a hurry the tilt could help the drink stay in the holder due to its angle backwards.

I love these kinds of stories
Very beautiful rhis Buick Regal GS. Confortable and solid car
LOL the world's most prominent traction control defeat button.

@@iluvcamaros1912 Biggest problem with this and other W bodies was its FWD. It'll light the tires far too easy.

My grandparents owned a black 2000 and a brown 2003 Regal.

My parents bought a '99 Regal GS new. I still have it. I take it to Radwood every year.

I love Buick Regal GS, beautiful and comfortable car
They need to bring this show back. I used to watch it every week end. Loved it!!
Motorweek is still on, new episodes every week. One of the longest running shows on TV.
Good engine

Buicks classy yet powerful sedan.❤

2:55 that mustache is crazy
The new Prius goes 0-60 in 6.6 seconds....How times have changed
This '97 Regal GS at 7 seconds still feels fast, especially when that supercharger kicks in.

I can smell that early 2000s GM plastic interior in the hot sun through this video. If you know , you know.
A true sleeper...
I'd be curious to see what this car could do with a modern 8 to 10 speed trans
0-60 in 1.2 seconds.
Got a good torque rang, so not much. Maybe a 6 speed max
Beautiful car. Is solid and confortable
I appreciate these shows and those days. With the EV the golden age of car enthusiasts is coming to an end.
Owned 4 of these and 3 other l67 cars. The regal gs is my favorite
I love how angled up the center armrest in the back is..😂 don't have a full drink in those cup holders.
The Grand National’s younger, straight-laced brother.
The GS was the quickest American sedan in 1997. Crazy how bad cars were back then. Just 25 years ago.🤯
Crazy that the Buick had the same motor as a camaro

Right now there's a really nice '01 GS, silver/black, 113k for 3500 in my neck of the woods. Bloody tempting.

That dude's sexy handlebar mustache distracted me. I love him long time hard! 😍😘
You failed to mention the trap speed…
Buick was looking to stay relevant, but this car just wasn't it.
