Japanese Short Rows: The Catch Method

  • Learn how to knit a Japanese short rows using the pinless catch method. We will be demonstrating on the toe of a toe-up sock, but this method can also be used for heels (top-down and toe up), toes and almost anywhere you want to use short row shaping.

    Greetings from Lee County, Alabama! Thank you for yet another fab instructional video. What would be the advantage of using Japanese short rows?

      Hey neighbor! For socks, it just gives a slightly different look to that diagonal "seam" where the rows transition from shorter to longer. I think it's probably the prettiest of all the short rows.

    What does the inside of the sock short row ridge look/feel like? Some of the folks I’m knitting for, are very sensitive to textures and seems, and I’ve been avoiding true short rows, because of the ridge that they create on the inside.

      Of all the different short row methods, I think this one is the smoothest on the inside. There's very little ridge.

      @@thechillydog I really appreciate that. I love the look of short rows, but German, Fish Lips Kiss, and Wrap & Turn, were all too prominent. The only success I’ve had was with Mock Short Rows, but I’d love to have another one in my arsenal. Thank you!
