*These work with rod and reel or tip ups **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s good for keeping snow out of the hole and to greatly slow hole freezing. They are not heavy so need to be held down by tip up or some snow/ice shavings if windy. Have not had them freeze down even when placed in wet ice shavings.*
Been using a jigging rap for jumbo perch for many years - usually replace the treble hook with something stronger and bait it with a small red grub.... Works great.....
I've just lately gotten into using the various types of jigging lures for eye's, most of mine so far have been trolling and casting but I have spoken with a few anglers who jig and they say almost any lure that flutters or darts on the up and down stroke attract eyes and will work. I spoke with one angler that uses big 4 and 5 inch spoons and catch a lot of big eyes, I think in still water. I did hook a nice 20"'er in the Columbia on a Snap Rap but lost it at the boat. It seems that any water that has yellow perch in it the perch pattern works best.
Mike Bennewitz my favorite colors would be white chart, gold black, UV firetiger, and blue silver. Mainly natural colors but the UV FT can be good in clear water as well.
A walleye talker, walleye, big perch, pike, bass all caught on it. Could be confidence but its my favorite. I out fish jigging raps with it all the time.
For walleye through the ice jigging raps are absolutely my favorite. I’ve been using the rapala flat jig version of the jigging rap also. Glides even crazier than the regular jigging rap and it’s heavy and works fantastic in stronger current also.
JIgging rap is a great bait. Although this year the few i bought had issues with the back plastic wing cracking off. Not sure if its a manufacturing defect. Acme hyperglides are also good
Definitely love jigging raps and puppet minnows which I found identical in action tank testing. Think I'm gonna try getting a bit more aggressive with them seeing how you were ripping them I've always used them as a relatively slow swimming bait.
Absolute fav bait for eyes is rippin raps if they will bit them, No bait to deal with. Otherwise most success i have is flutter spoons. Keep pumping out the good content.
Can’t wait to see your next trip to low for some muskies. Always enjoyed watching those. I’m still fairly new to muskie fishing. 2nd full year lets just say I’m hooked.
Awesome video! Do you have a size preference for the jigging raps? Also, do you tip them with a minnow head? I also love using the jigging raps - at least when Michigan actually has good ice! lol
The problem with the jigging rap style baits is all the hooks sticking out. Cant tell you how many times I lost a big eye because those hooks grab the bottom of the hole.
Used these on a really cold day at the lake ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDn2sw8y7H6oNOV0envADWPlTV9pvctAA the spool was really fluent in letting the line out and the whole mechanism was really responsive to any hit from the fish, it was also great that you can adjust it for big or small fish. The light it came with works great in the dark. The only thing that I had problems with is the depth droppers clasp is really weak and it wouldn't stay on the hook unless you threaded the hook through the springs
Using since mid 80s on lk st clair, much shallower than you, fish as shallow as 2 or 3 feet deep to around 14 ,size 7 for jumbo perch , 9 for walleye , northerns ect,in ultra clear water i use perch color number 9 with a anise egg on bottom treble, blood red
@@dougwegnerfishing haha dont get me wrong i own tons of jigging raps! the chubby darter sucks in deeper water because of the slow fall and lack of weight. but in 8 feet or less that wobble on the fall has treated me well. as for a versatile bait jigging rap is hands down the best. year round!! awesome video as always brother keep it up!
Good video. BUT! If you touch a fish's gills (stick a finger in them) it will eventually die. If you're going to catch and release do not stick your finger in the gills

Love it. We’ve been using these for decades here in Finland. :) Normal rubber jigs with ice fishing head work well too.
My go to lure is a Nils Master Jigger 3 in the 8cm size and color pattern #48

Love it bro, Hopefully i'll be fishing Fort Peck this next week..... eyes on my forecast!

Awesome video! One thing I was hoping to get covered is what your favorite colors are for various water clarity/light conditions.
Mike Bennewitz my favorite colors would be white chart, gold black, UV firetiger, and blue silver. Mainly natural colors but the UV FT can be good in clear water as well.
I'd add on to what he said, I try to 'match the hatch with them in clear water, bright colors in murky water and glows at night.
Fire tiger UV is my favorite - I change the treble to something stronger and slightly bigger usually in red…
No joke on the versatility. I have caught some giant pike on the jigging raps. They can’t lay off of them.
Everything loves them. Great crappie bait too
Great footage. Nice looking bunch of fish
Tim Kallinen thanks for watching Tim!

What is your goto color in the walleye talker ??
@@gailpolonowski2080 red is my favorite, meaning I get thr most bites, But my biggest walleye and pike came of the blue one.
That's all I use for jumbo perch on Lake Simcoe.... I change the treble hook to something stronger and bait it with a small red maggot type grub.
Nice!

I have always done good with the hard rip to get the fishes attention.
Do you run a size bigger on your treble hooks on your Raps depending the size your using? Thanks!
I like using the buckshot tipped with a minnow head 🔥

Had good luck with the emerald Swedish pimples, great video
Pimples are awesome!
Doug. Do you replace the treble with something bigger? If so, what size and brand?? Thanks
Owner or VMC size depends on the size of the bait.
Hi Doug!! You may have covered this but what size jig rap do you prefer for walleyes? Thanks!
5s and 7s!

Hey Doug how do you like the Milwaukee headlamp?
Stephan Vigier love it
I like that most ice fisherman on here have a midwest accent. It's how I can tell I'm in the right place.
Jigging raps are probably the most fun to catch them on, but I seem to catch a lot more on a buckshot
Todd Zelinske buckshots are awesome! Thanks for watching.
How far off bottom are you using your jigging wrap and in what depth of water
2’ off bottom and 18-24 feet
Thanks
Nice job, buddy. Wish I could have made it out on the ice with you guys!
Nick Lindner next time!

@Mountain Man Penman,As true as that is,Some people can do it without touching the gill.
Nice fishing but kind of lousy distracting music!
Burbot tastes better than walleye.Change my mind.
Handle it by the gills and then chuck it back in. That fish is probably going to die.
G W If he kept it, it would definitely die.
@@danielholtxxl4936 Cute. I've seen too many people grab a fish by the gill flap, only to see the fish start fighting and getting gill damage.
G W you’re right. But how else can you get a fish that size out of the hole.
@@danielholtxxl4936 I use a filleting glove and pull then out by the back of of the head. That way the spines don't rip your hand apart.
