Back some 40 years ago, one of my fellow U.S. Marines, was profoundly color blind. Near as Doctors could figure, he could see a little green or red, but mostly everything was brown in varying shades. Anyone wearing camouflage uniforms in the wild, he says their clothing just 'glowed' as compared to the the other surrounding vegetation. So, the red bench cloth may very well look greenish to (USOG) him! Cheers from Texas!
Gotta love Texas! Thanks for the note. Whatever color it is...it sure is soft
@GalvestonCountyMike ---> The reason it "glowed" to him was that we had to starch our Utilities and then the Cammies when they came in about 1976. That starch shows up on starlight scopes and infrared binos/sights. 'Tis why the Army camouflage uniforms (90's to 2007 anyway ) said on the label: DO NOT use starch. Iron only with water.
Anyone with that bad of colorblindness should never have been in a combat arms MOS.
@@gusloader123 I was in the Marine Corps back then, and saw the phase out of the OD Utilities, with which I only had one set remaining. Semper Fi!
A departed gunsmith friend of mine saw everything in shades of grey. He said that it helped a great deal with machining work. He also stated that during the-Second World-War, he couldn’t understand the fuss that people made about dazzle camouflage on ships because he could see such vessels clearly.
Peculiar. I once tried to get a job as an air traffic controller. They had a fairly thorough color blindness test where you had to line up dots from dark to light. After I placed all the pieces where I thought they belonged the Lady looked at me and in a somewhat befuddled voice said "does that look right to you"? Unfortunately I had to keep looking. As I understand color blindness there are basically two types, people who struggle with reds and people who struggle with greens. I see some greens but other shades of green just look gray to me. Ive never heard of anyone who couldn't see either green or red before.
Mike, thank you for those kind words about the much maligned Winchester Post 64 Model 70. I've used mine, also a 308, almost exclusively for 48 years and never had a moments trouble.
You're most welcome - they are incredibly fine and accurate rifles. I buy them when I can. You knew all along...bravo
The only problem I've had, is the spring loaded ejector in the bolt rusting and being stuck. Remington bolts never.
I have a model 70 in a 300 win mag awesome gun and like yours has no moments shot many deer with mine very light weight wouldn’t give I my rifle up for nothing truly a wonderful gun
I thought I knew a lot about rifles but after watching many of your wonderful videos I realize I don;t know very much. Thanks for the excellent videos.
That's my old deer rifle, Mike, I got for Christmas in 1997 I think. 25-06. Absolute pounder. I beat living the crap out of that for years. It still shoots the day I got it.
Taken tons of deer. They are the perfect bush gun. Wood is really hard on mine. Barely scratches... Little heavy from the hardwood. But so cheap back then. I think my wife bought it for a couple hundred bucks...
That's awesome! Great cal. Great rifle and shooter to match
I have an MR-7 in .280 Rem with the floor-plate and walnut stock. The floor-plate model featured a detachable box magazine attached to the floor-plate, 'al a the Browning A-Bolt, so they took inspiration from Winchester, Ruger Remington AND Browning for the MR-7. Rumor has it that they were threatened with lawsuits for some of the feature infringements. They were/are an excellent rifle and my .280 is a real tack-driver.
The jewelled bolts are always a crowd pleaser.
One of the nicest features and excellent for retaining oil
When I saw the title I knew exactly what you were talking about. I've got an MR7 in 30-06. Amazing rifle. Beautiful wood, fit and finish and deadly accurate.
A few years ago I got 4 rifles from an old guy who was retiring his collection. Among them was an unfired MR7 in 270. It was my first time hearing about them but the quality seemed very good. I sold it to a friend whose son was coming of age and that gun turned out to be a great shooter. He was shooting groups under an inch on day 1 with factory ammo.
It’s amazing how your channel doesn’t have more subs. Well. Am here
Thank you for being here : )
I have a post 64 in a model 70 270 feather weight I've hunted with for over thirty years In Alaska. Thanks for another great video.
Great super multi-design rifle. The new table top is a lovely shade of green. Rather fetching I would say. Next time I am in Hong Kong I will have a custom suit made of the same color.
😂😂😂😂....best sense of humor Rick - TY
I actually recognized the rifle right away, I believe it originated from a survey in Shooting Times, regarding the features shooters wanted in a new bolt action rifle. About a year later, the MR-7 arrived. Its reception seemed to be lukewarm, at best. A good rifle that deserved a better fate.
Very good - I'll look up the article : )
That’s Pretty Cool I’ve Never Seen One Before 😀😇😮 USOG
Great episode! Thank you!
Marlin and Mossberg both came out with a less expensive rifle than the Remington 700 series. Remington countered with the 788 to beat them out of the bolt action market.
And it worked! No more center fire bolt actions from either one. Until recently, long after the war was won by Remington.
This was really an interesting video! I learned quite a bit and saw a rifle I never new existed.
Well done sir!
Thanks for watching!
Looks like a nice table to me Mike. Nice to see you. And I enjoy your videos.
Thank you!
Hello Mike. Yes, the Marlin RM-7. What a wonderful rifle. I Camouflage coated with DuraCoat one of these in .270 win. As you know, to do this the rifle must be taken down to it's smallest parts. In doing so it became apparent that this rifle borrowed heavily from Ruger, Remington, Winchester and Savage. The design engineers took the best features of each of these rifles and incorporated them into the RM-7. It was very well thought out and function was flawless. I was mightily impressed. All in all a quality piece of engineering. This one had a black synthetic stock, very plain Jane looking, unlike yours. But after a British DPM pattern camouflage DuraCoat job it looked really smart. Topped with a Nikon 3-9X BDC it proved quite accurate. After sight in it's first real world shot took a big woodchuck at 125 yards with one clean head shot.
Yes, Marlin made the finest lever guns. But with all their experience and lessons learned they can produce one hell of a fine bolt gun. They fooled around with this concept in the 80's. I think it was the model 800. It wasn't around long, but they did have a nice heavy barreled version that shot very well. It just couldn't beat the competition at that time.
I'm sure you will find yours a pleasure to shoot and it will impress you, especially with it's accuracy. If you do your part. Good luck and enjoy.
Great show and thanks for the info 👍👍👍👍😁😁😁👌👌👌👌💯💯💯💯
Thank you!
The mr7 with a floor plate is like a browning to add to all of mystery of the finest 30-06 I have
Thank you!
Off green...lol!
Off red to me!!
😂😂
@@UnitedStatesOfGunsRemington 700 or model 70 ? What is ur pick if u had to get one only
I knew immediately where this was going! Remember these guns well. It's a tough segment to compete in for any maker. Not surprised they were discontinued. CZ had better rifles for the same money.
CZ ....yes!
I absolutely love my 7 CZ rifles!😊
Thank you. Interesting video. I have heard of the Marlin but I don't recall seeing any.
I have one of each. All are great rifles!
Three kings : )
I love when you do video in this format!! As for the “green” table cover, I would try to get a “red” one, dark “red” would be great and plus it would show oil and dirt as much! Take care and thanks for the video!
Good advice - I'll ask for a dark red one and see what arrives : )
I forgot about the Marlin MR (Marlin Rifle?) 7. Never popular because Marlin is a lever and 22 manufacturer, in the publics mind. I've always been a bit surprised by the number of bolt action rifle that wear a "7" in the model number. 70, 700, 77, 7 (Rem and Marlin), 670 and probably a few I'm not thinking of. As superstitious as hunters are I'm surprised there isn't a model 777.
The green table top looks great 😊. Actually I can hear the video fairly well. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Jeff
I've had all 3 and the Savage 110! All are great.
I love my Marlin MR-7 It borrowed all the good things from several reputable brands. Winchester receiver, trigger and safety, Remington locking lugs and 3 rings of steel, Ruger bolt handle, Browning drop out floor plate and detached detachable magazine. Recessed crown, actory glass bedded and very accurate.
You're one of the few that know or have one of these - good on you. They're just as you say - excellent!
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns The MR-7 was made from 1996-1999 and they have a Walnut stock. Not sure on the MR-7B as far as manufacturing dates but assume it was an even shorter span than the regular versions most likely 98-99? I read they had to stop production due to patent infringement. I do love mine and it is superbly accurate with 165 grain loads.
Mike I had the Mr7, in 270 win and the browning detachable magazine, what a rifle, Marlin took all the best parts of the others, I read somewhere it was to get around patent issues, who knows, anyway I gave it to my son he sold it and bought a Tikka in 7mm rem mag, I'm still kicking myself for that mistake. Anyway another great video thanks
Thanks for the note - and the Browning detachable mag info. Much appreciated
I find most all your videos to be very worth my while. Thank you
Thank you - I'll keep going.
Enjoyed. Nice video.
Interesting... Thank you for sharing.
Here's another interesting rifle... I have an old 1920's vintage .22lr, a Savage 23A. The receiver and barrel are machined from one piece of steel. They are very reasonably priced and some folks say the (very hard to find) magazine is worth almost as much as the rifle.
That's a very fine Savage - didn't know they were one piece
The tabletop looks red to me. Now on to something important like rifles.
Remington made an ADL without a floor plate. Had a used one I picked up second handed. Didn't keep it long because it would fire sometimes when you knocked the safety off. I know now what caused it to do that, but at the time I just thought it was do to a poor home trigger job. So maybe Marlin somewhat copied a Remington ADL?
I’m guessing g Mr. USOG. Has red green colourblindness.
Would love to see a review of the H&R 360 semi-auto centerfire (308, or 243) rifle. Maybe the model 700 in 22WMR as well.
I would love to see a review of a model 700 in 22 mag. I never knew they made one.
its a smoooooothe gun. a mini model 360 in appearance, no tilting bolt just regular blowback@@grannydeen1586
I have a Savage model 111 Chieftain I purchased in 1975 in 30-06. Never let me down.
its ben about a decade since i found my bolt action, i believe ive commented about it several times threw the years on how it compares to other similar rifles, its a Remington made mod 1917, that from 10 feet away it looks like a bubba sporterised mill surp. the rear sight base and ears wer milled off and reshaped and the receiver was polished blued and drilled & tapped and fitted with a med heavy 25 in barrel and came with a very early production weaver k4 with a custom fine cross hair and a teeny dot in the center witch roughly equals 1moa at 100yrds...it turned out to be a full on action up custom job that was priced at 199$ it weighs around 12 pounds other than that it compares rather well with the 3 rifles you wer comparing, as its a controlled feed bolt with a claw extractor like the ruger m77 and the win pre 64 mod 70 and shares the dog leg shaped bolt. i personally prefer this to the rem700 or the marlin witch ide also never heard of lol. its also the oldest gun i own at the moment. and has exceeded all expectations as far as it being accurate and fun to shoot, the recoil is soft thx to it weighing 12 pounds. the stock is even nice, figured walnut with a cheek rest that puts me in the exactly wear i should be in line with the scope, its pretty rad!
Fun presentation.
Years ago I had a very fine rifle built on a fn Mauser action.i had it done Remington 700 all style.no floorplate.the gunsmith looked at me as if I were stupid and said I've never seen a custom rifle without a floor plate.roy was a friend and I asked him in all your years of shooting how many times did you dump your mag via floorplate he answered never.the best rifle I own is a stock winchester model 54
1st year production. This rifle is so pointable and accurate its unbelievable. My only complaint is that it has that stupid unopperable floor plate. Great video as always
Ahhhh...you have a 54. Life is good.
Great show! Love Marlins!
I friend of mine back in 80s had a mossberg 270 bolt gun that was made in japan, he ruined it learning to reload he jumped the scale 10 grs had to pound open the bolt handle ,it was a very smooth action.
10 grs 😂...that's heavy duty reloading. Glad he's okay. Happy 2024!
I have one great gun. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for so much precious information. Always a pleasure to see a gentleman talk knowledgeably about guns.
A particular question, can you tell us something about the Portuguese Mauser "Vergueiro" ?
I believe it was an engineer that improved some characteristics of the Mauser rifles produced in Portugal. Many thanks !
Hello and thank you - will do - I think I have one; I'll make a video and in the meantime can say that the action is a blend of Mauser and Mannlicher - with a split rear bridge; it's a lovely and very smooth rifle/action to shoot and own. I had one in the original 6.5x58 chambering but sold it to a collector who was desperate to own one; I think I have an 8x57 still - which is what Germany changed them to. More to come. All the best to you.
I’ve never seen a Marlin bolt action rifle here on the rack !
It looks good !
Red is the new green. Great vid, beautiful rifles. I like what you have done with the back wall to hang rifles. I would like to hear the Alberta letter.
Cheers.
Chris
Hi Chris - Will do.
Love the old bolt guns you video. I have heard of the Marlin MR-7, Never held one though.
A number of years ago a hunter wondered into our deer shack carrying a Mossberg 880 (I think). Very odd rifle. Chambered in .30-06 (naturally).
I fould that rifle really interesting, had an old Weaver K4 scope mounted. A real unique ans classic rifle.
Those earlier Mossberg bolts are really interesting. I think we made a video or two on them.
Happy I own m17 sporter and p14 sporter. Heavy as i added bbs for rear counterweight for barrel heavy rifles. Its too heavy now to carry so they can be truck rifles now. No holes on the metal for scopes, only open sights. I love my control round feed rifles of old. 303 is set for 100 yards and 30.06 still needs bullets
Bolts are basicly like triggers they have to be a certain shape model 70 700 mk1 mk2 ruger are awesome guns you vedio is great thank you
Cool rifle!
Reminds me of a Winchester 670, some have 3 position safeties, great rifles.
You're right
I thought the Rugers were cast receivers. Not milled. On the 77 I could be mistaken. Anyway love your videos. Thanks!
You're right - Pine Tree castings and Ruger go together; maybe I used the wrong words. Rugers are investment cast.
I'LL GIVE YA $10,000 FER THE CUSTOM SHOP REMINGTON!!!!!!!!!!
Okay! 👍
I really enjoy these videos. It's like hanging out with a friend in a man cave talking about guns.
Thank you - I appreciate that you visit
Just dropping a note here to say that your voice reminds me of one of the guys that used to do CBS Radio Mystery Theater. Probably showing my age with that one.
I have a Ruger M77 that is in good condition. It was advertised for two months but could not be sold. Its bolt action is very crisp, a Mauser style Control Feed, and it also has a Weaver scope. The only reason I want to sell it is that it has no iron sights.
That's a gem.
How much do you want for it and what caliber is it?
@@danwhite5550 I used to publish an ad at Gunpost for 900CAD shipped within Canada, it’s in 30-06 caliber.
@@danwhite5550 if you’re interested of it, I could republish the M77 on Gunpost.
Almost as if a post-64 Winchester and a M700 ADL had a baby.
I remember when they were advertising that Marlin years ago but I never did see one
If you dont know, winchester made a model 770 that was called the Poor mans Model 70. The 770 had no floor plate. They were only made 1969 to 1971. I love the winchester model 70 and thr 770 as well. Hope to see a video on the winchester 770 soon.
I enjoyed you remarks about the new table top. Kind of funny.
I once ordered a colt .45 peace maker in Nickel finish. It was delivered Blue and Case hardened frame. I decided it was a part of the story of the firearm, so i kept it. It is still extremely Beautiful either way.
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
I would love to see what the underside of the Marlin receiver looks like! And did they use the M-70 style trigger?
Hi - I should have shown it taken down. The bottom of the receiver is M70 except the recoil lug is thinner. The trigger is original M70. It's fantastic.
I have a Ruger Super blackhawk 44Mag, Model 70, plenty Win Levers, 3 Rem Pumps, 870, 760, Model 12 22lr
You're ready
sure looks red to me.
Interesting : )
Great video. Is there anybody out there familiar with the winchester model 670. That rifle reminds me of a Remington 700 action.
Hi - Yes the 670 is similar; fine rifle as well
wish i still had mt model 77
Winchester Model 70 Pre 64 in .270 Winchester 😀❤️😀😊
What is the rifle on the wall behind your right shoulder with a forward mounted bolt handle, and a dark fore end cap? Thank you.
Green what do you mean green that's brown if I ever saw Brown, I don't like to argue yeah yeah right but that is brown,,❤ keep up the great videos,😊
Im also a huge fan of blind magazines. Nothing to worry about and really comfortable to carry.
Hi there, I like you to show that shotgun behind you I think is side by side 12g , but I don’t know made by which company, if it’s possible for you to make some video about et I will be very happy, because I love to have shotgun side by side 12 g but I don’t much about side by side shotgun, please and thanks 🙏
You should order another green one so you will be prepared for Christmas. Off green actually made me laugh.
Will do - gotta love those colors 😂
Just watched a video. A Remington 700 shot an Alaskan Brown Bears 3 shots at a distance of 470 yards, then it was jammed. The shooter was almost killed by the charging bear. The Remington 700 is a very famous classic hunting rifle, but it may not be good enough.
I’m betting your wife ordered your new table top lol. But it really makes your room pop with color! Awesome rifle review 👏
😂 nah - she's much sharper than I am. The red is growing on me. Maybe I'll order more green and see what happens next : )
I was saying she has good taste!! 😀
Intersurplus is where I got my absolutely lovely Swedish 9.3x57 for $235. Which was drilled and tapped for a scope even. I also got a gorgeous O/U made in Italy huskvarna. For $450. But don’t tell anyone. Don’t want the prices to go up 🤫. 😉
As for this gun, I thought for sure it was going to be a Chinese gun. 😀
You bet - I bought the same rifle as you - the best deal ever!
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns I know eh?! They did such a good job with the stock, and sights too. Even with my old eyes, I have no interest in a scope under 100yds. Even more if I was hunting big game with it. Can’t wait to shoot it, but with no primers, I can’t reload it.
@@jimf1964Few years back Norma made 9.3 x 57 .You dont need to reload it i think. Ask dealer from Europe.
Hi Mike. Does that Marlin bolt rifle have micro groove rifling like a lot of Marlins had? It sure looks sturdy but would look even better in walnut.
I sure like your Ruger 77. I have 2 Ruger MKII rifles. One is a VLE tactical in .223 with semi heavy matt black 26" barrel in a laminated beavertail stock. I found it locally here in Reno as new old stock. The other is identical but in 25-06 and Rugers competition silver. The 25-06 shoots most factory ammo i tried in it well under an inch @ a hunnert. Have not shot the .223 yet but i'm sure it won't disappoint.
Hi - I went to check just now - the rifling looks slightly different from say the others but is likely button rifled and no micro groove. I like your Rugers - the 25-06 continues to astound doesn't it! One here's so little about the 25-06 - yet it is a fantastic round; and supremely accurate in most rifles - especially the Ruger. Cheers
Remington model 8
If I remember correctly that rifle was an attempt by Marlin to enter into the bolt action realm. It is a lose copy of the Remington 722/723 with a Winchester side swing type safety. Didn’t sell very well mainly because Winchester and Remington flooding the market with cheap to produce push feed 700’s and 70’s respectively.
Good post!
Actually, they had tried it a few times before. But it wasn't until the Patriot series came out that they had a winner.
I saw a beautiful mk2 ruger for 600 bucks I wish I would’ve got it
I want to see how it shoots. Please mount a scope on the rifle and put a video out soon.
Marlin has a long history of making really interesting, well-designed, well-made bolt action centerfires that NOBODY WANTS. Which is a pity. Thanks for bringing attention to this one.
10 years I bought a new 700 ADL 1963 in box at a gun show.
Good rifle to buy!
Mossberg had the 800 and 810, followed by the RM7?????

The post Mdl. 70 was stronger and more accurate than the pre model 70s.
I'm a Rugar model 77 man.
Ideal preference.
I approve this message…
That's a good feeling : )
Looks red
The new "green" carpet looks good actually and helps provide contrast. Sometimes mistakes work out but not getting what you ordered in a rifle would be unforgivable. As always I enjoy your presentations even though my gun cabinets have no more room to allow for more.
Thank you. I think the red is pretty good as well. I ran into the same problem with no more room in my gun cabinets. So I bought more cabinets. 😂
A youth ranger model 70 has no floor plate.
Gotta get one
Fellt looks very red😂
I agree
Wasn't B for 'blind magazine?' Not a bad rifle, comparable to a Rem 700 ADL, Savage 110, or a Winchester 70 Ranger push feed. I think they didn't sell well because it wasn't enough cheaper than those aforememtioned rifles and didn't have the rep of those rifles. In short, no compelling reason to buy over those other rifles.
Must be - nice rifle. I agree with you though - not enough of a difference or sameness. Makes for a great collector piece.
Your new bench cover is reversible. Just turn it inside out.
Okay will do
I have seen this gun several times in my 60+ years of collecting but have never bought one because I just could not bring my self to buy an ugly gun🤔😳😂 it’s a great gun but not for everyone! I talk to a guy who owned one for years and Never had a problem with it and took lots of game with it but he didn’t love his gun which is hard for some people to accept like me who treats his rifles like his little kids🤔😳😂
Hi Edward, Great post. I like the "kids" reference. I think Marlin should have hung on to it for longer. It's actually quite fine. Cheers, Mike
Looks red on my phone . Calibers please.
: ) M70 is .308, Rem. Is 8mm Rem. Mag. Ruger is 25-06 Ackley Imp.
Your table cloth is red to me.
I've got three MR7B's. a .270, .308 and a 30-06. All very good rifles, all shoot accurately and all look good. I don't have a clue why they were so short lived. They are very good guns.
You have the wisdom! This is a fantastic rifle! I'm only finding out now 😂
The MR7 was the obvious suspect. I remember the initial reviews and publicity.
Bravo
Which is your fave?
Such a great question. I'd take the 70.
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns me too. That's what led me to the Kimber 8400
Just to add a touch of "know it all", a magazine without a floorplate is commonly known as a "blind box magazine", so it would stand to reason the model designation (MR7B) is informing the catalogue skimmer "this is an MR7 with a blind box". As always, enjoy your episodes to no end. Id also have to add that "off green" is QUITE off green. I'd venture its a shade of green marketed by very few (if any) textile, paint, dye, or ink companies!
Thank you : )
Don’t think those are dove tails on the M-77
