Friends, I had a fan going in the kitchen and I didn’t realize how much background noise it created especially during the ketchup video. My apologies for the humming!
We always freeze our corn--just live that fresh picked taste in the middle of the winter. I just put mine in quart ziplock freezer bags, and we never have an issue. I know how you feel about a gas stove. We were blessed a few years ago to be able to convert to natural gas-I hope I never have to go back to electric. I'll have to learn how to cook again. LOL, I want to try that ketchup. It looked amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Patricia 💜 When we did a few bags of frozen corn last year we couldn’t believe how good it tasted ! Maybe one day I’ll get my gas stove 🤞 I hope you try the ketchup recipe and if you please give me some feedback on it
Gorgeous carrots!!! Another great video, always enjoy watching no matter what you are doing! You will enjoy the fruits of your labor this winter for sure!
Busy, busy! Wow, you got a lot done. I'm glad you had ways to resolve the vaccum sealer problem and finish the corn preservation. I had no idea a vaccum sealer would pull out the liquid like that, but I have never had one or used one. It's on my list of things to get one of these days. As always, another wonderful video. Enjoy this week and may it be filled with blessings! 💙💙💙
Thanks Carolyn 💜 Yes it was a busy week but felt so good to get all that accomplished! Frank warned me the corn/sealer was going to do that but I tried anyway 😂 Blessings to you too 💜
I watch you in the morning and can in the afternoon. today is farmer's market day, I have to go get zucchinis because my garden space is too small for all the squash i want to grow, this year I chose to grow crooked neck squash and buttercup squash and it's taking over every walking space I have. But, it's fun. I went back to watch your ketchup video, now I wait for the tomatoes to ripen. Have a great day love your channel. 👍🏽🙏🏽💖😉
I can not tell you how much I appreciate this! I have tried making it and swore off because it takes fooooreeeever and the results are not worth my time. I’m going to try this and let you know what my picky grandchildren say. Thank you❤
How do you use the Cubanel peppers and are they hot? Are they like banana peppers? The ketchup looks amazing and easier than most to make. Looks like I have a new product to try. Thanks for you video and the time it takes to make them!
Hi, Thank you so much 💜 Cubanel peppers are very mild, thinner fleshed sweet peppers (and easier to digest) I usually chop them up and freeze them to use all winter but I have so many I’m searching for recipes on other ways to preserve them.
Hi..enjoying your channel, fellow Canadian. For our corn , we set the pointy end of the cob in the hole of an angel food cake pan and run our electric knife down the the cob. The corn falls into the cake pan. Works great. Thanks for the carrot tip. I will try that for sure Thanks for the video
Hi! We love when Canadians joins us 🇨🇦 A few people have mentioned an electric knife. I think I may get one for next year. (It’s a long tedious task) Thanks for the tips ☺️
Hi just wanted to say thank you for the best ketchup recipe I only made a half recipe wasn't sure how it would come out well I am so happy hubby and granddaughter approved. I tried the ball recipe one year and cooked it down so much it burnt , but this was great and it thickened right up . Thanks again
Oh Mary!! I’m so happy ☺️ you made it and they liked it!! (Sometimes I really do hesitate to tell how much I like something because others may not) I appreciate the positive feedback so much and thank you for taking the time to let me know 💜💜
Still watching this video, but I'll be trying your ketchup for sure! As for taking the corn off the cobs - try standing it on the bigger end & if you have an electric carving knife, use that. It's really easy that way & I do it into a roasting pan with a small bowl upside down in it with the cirn cob propped up on the bowl. It keeps the corn & the juices contained & easy to bag or jar up. I like to use the juice with the corn when I can it especially. Happy harvesting! God bless🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Sandi 💜 I don’t have an electric carving knife but it sounds like a great idea! The roasting pan I do have and I will definitely use that. Thanks for the tips 😀
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead Great! A good sharp knife & propping the cob up on end stabilizes it & all the "mess" goes into the roasting pan. I just saw someone doing it with the electric carving knife & my "old lady hands" are ALWAYS looking for a little relief!😆 Take care!
My goodness you’ve been busy! Today I canned four quarts of Kosher dill pickles using the Mrs. Wage’s mix. I’ve never done that before, so I hope they turn out good! I cut the cucumbers into spears. I’d love to try your ketchup. I just have an old fashioned food mill, not the tomato gadget you have. Will that work? Pampered Chef (a direct sales company with representatives) has the best tool for sweet corn. Love your videos!
You’ve been busy too Jane! I know the Mrs Wages says you can open after 24 hours but someone told me to wait 5-7 days. They’ll taste even better. I’m sure the old fashion food mill should work. That’s what they use to use. Just to get the seeds and skins off. (I bought mine at a thrift store years ago for $10) I’ll look into Pampered Chef Thanks 💜
Regarding getting corn off the cob, Ruthann Zimmerman (Homesteading with the Zimmermans) has a recent video of her family doing their annual corn day, and her knife skill is amazing. Everyone else in her family uses different gizmos and gadgets, but next time I take corn off cobs, I'm going to try her method. I won't be nearly as fast as her, but it looks like she gets every last edible particle off, and it reminds me of watching my great grandfather fill a giant kettle in an hour way back when I was a little girl. To be fair, it still makes a mess, and both Ruthann and my Papaw do/did it outside. Bushels worth of corn spray all over the kitchen would be a bummer to clean up after all that other work. 😊
My apologies for the late reply! Yes, I saw her too and wow is she a pro with that knife! I would love to do it her way and I agree outside it probably the best place. I don’t have a knife that comes close to as sharp as what RuthAnn has but I’ll definitely keep my out for sale. Thanks so much 💜
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead no apologies necessary as I didn't expect you to reply at all. 🙂 I don't have a knife that sharp either, but I'm still planning on trying it. Skills like that are amazing. 😁
Look at all those picture perfect carrots!!! Maybe you should try my method for corn, take your bunnet pan with a hole in the center of it put the point of the corn in the hole and then cut down with your knife. Maybe you will like it. One question how long do you Blanche your corn. 👧🏻
Ohhh I like that idea Lyn 😃 We are still going to get more corn so I’ll give it a try! I’m so happy with the carrots, I did a little video when we pulled them I’ll share it next. As soon as the water returned to a boil I took the corn out and put in cold water. (We already ate some from frozen to test it and it was perfect 🌽 ☺️) Thank you
Love your video! So happy I found you! I am from upstate New York growing zone 5. Tomatoes are just starting to ripen here. I have the same stove! I'm having a problem with it too. It's on its way out. I can never get the burnt on crud around the burner off! As much as I clean it, it always look dirty. Ugg! I miss my gas stove from my previous home. Definitely will be making your ketchup! I only have arrowroot powder. Do you know how much I should use?
Thank you Tina 💜 I live right above you lol. We do most of our shopping in upstate (very very upstate) New York. I agree with the crud on the stove too..Ugg! I would say to use the same amount of arrowroot powder as thermoflo. Let it simmer for a bit, if you find it too thick add a bit more tomato juice but I’m sure it will be fine 😀

I use my electic knife to take my corn off the cob- easy
I few people have mentioned this..I think for next year i will give it a try! Thanks Shirley 💜

Do you make corn cob broth with all the cobs? Also you can make corn cob jelly.
I have made corn cob syrup but haven’t tried anything else so far
The lighting is fine . I had no problems
I’m always worried when things aren’t perfect 😬
