  • Update July 2023: See BELOW
The Tesla Model Y (2023) comes with a cargo cover. It’s great at covering your trunk, but terrible when it comes to ease of use. We fix it easily with a couple of inexpensive 3M Commander hooks.
The beauty of this hack is that it does not damage the car at all if they need to be removed. If you need to reset your car back to factory standard, they can easily be removed with no harm done.
TURNS out that there is a second version of the 2023 cargo cover that's somewhat of an improvement to the one I have. This hack could still work, but maybe not necessary.
*******Update July 2023: The double sided command strips came off after 6 months. So I needed to find a better adhesive. Tried the following that did NOT work (they wouldn't stick to the car) - Silicone Caulk, 3M industrial double sided tape, alien/space tape, loctite all purpose power grip. I'm still testing the following and are promising - self adhesive eva foam on the car, then loctite power grip to the foam. And also testing Aleene's Original Tacky Glue.

I can see how this will come in handy for a lot of people. If these come in black that would look less out of place otherwise pain them with some good long lasting paint.
Before I got my Model Y I considered buying the aftermarket cover. The one I saw was a retractable one. I liked that a lot better because it served the same purpose as the official cover but is my lighter in weight and it's totally retractable and removable.

Yes, black spray paint goes a long way. Also, supposedly, they come in black, but they don't sell at Home Depot. I also prefer a retractable cover. It's easier to store when you need to remove it. The aftermarket retractable is kind of bulky and intrusive with a couple of big parts you need to screw holes in and damage the molding if you ever needed to remove it.

I like it. Guess I’ll do this.

Hi, you can unhook the back end of the cover (next to the back seats), then slide the cover back and down along the back of the back seats. This way you hide one section of the cover and only have 2 remaining

Interesting option and much easier. My concern would be that it doesn't cover up the trunk, but the tinted windows kind of take care of that. I'll try it out.

IMHO, not necessary. Just push up on center of cover from underneath and push the front of the cover back. Nothing wrong with the design.

I think there are two versions of the cover that were delivered in Dec 2022. I got the one with 3 sections and 2 folds, with the outer section being very deep. So pushing up from underneath doesn't work for me. 1 it's too far to reach to the center since the first section is so wide 2 it wouldn't do any good since it's only two sections. The one you have has narrower sections and possible 4 sections(?) - possibly better design. Although, I would have preferred a standard retractable cover.
