Absolutely, because before and after the Civil Rights Era, we had no idea up North that we were the American Indian and never questioned compulsory education or forced missionary religious practices. Want to be revolutionaries without a clue. The entire Slave Trade was told in reverse and the "White Slavery" component was completely ommitted. History cannot be taught without recognition of The Moors Monguls and Ottoman Empire of which these groups exploits have influenced the exonim cultures, wars and boundaries on this planet.

I think something missing from this conversation early in the video is the fact that a male presence in the home was forbidden in order to receive welfare. So, dual income families who were still struggling, could not receive government support. Families split, didn’t marry, or hid relationships to ensure they got what they needed for survival. This created loose family bonds and an open door for fathers to leave as well as young men to become used to not having father figures, creating patterns by emulating that dynamic in their own adult lives.

We had very few skill trades (apprenticeship programs and ownership of shops) in our neighborhoods. No new construction companies or contracts. Eisenhower saw to that. None of us paved any of the interstate highway system nor did we lay bricks in the vertical/horizontal "projects" we were corralled in, like steers. No more butcher shops, but plenty of store front churches (Chicago); No horticulture, farmers markets, bakeries, ice man, milkman, sporting goods stores.. all individual skill set shops and property, lost due to consolidation of SUPER...Markets! The way welfare is structured there’s a 100% indirect tax on income(welfare is taken away) at around $20,000. No rational person would work. These single mothers receive welfare until the child reaches adulthood then it’s eliminated. At that point a middle aged women with no skills to earn a living is thrown back into the workforce. A better way would be lower the average amount received and expand it to higher earners gradually reducing the amount. This would place a fire under them to work, but they still would receive welfare encouraging them to work and earn more. Hopefully they eventually would no longer need welfare or at least learn skills so when the child reaches adulthood the mother is able to support herself.

      1. Politicians to recognize and admit they made a mistake
      2. Tell poor people (yes black and white) that they have to take personal responsibility for their circumstances.
      3. Tell those same people that the only way out of it is through your own effort.
      How would that play politically.
Basically the answer is this there is an advantage to the democrats to keep they current state. If they were to implement solutions to poverty they would lose a considerable portion of their constituancy losing the next few elections. and political power is much more important to them than actually resolving crime, poverty or for that matter unfair discrimination.

In the 1960's my Grandmother was an LPN ...nurse...At ST CABRINI HOSPITAL in Chicago. She recounted a story of a 13 year old black girl who had just given out of wedlock birth. Her mother, who could not have been more than 30, was visiting her daughter at the hospital when a fight broke out between the two about who would begin receiving monthly government ADC (Aid to Dependent Children) payments..her or her daughter. This hits home… in mid 80s-1990 I was assistant resident director at a southeastern college
My residents were wonderful friends schooling me in black culture. There was one girl with very light caramel skin…they would not be friends with her under any circumstances
    I asked why, they said,
    “Her skin is too light…
She thinks she is something because she’s more white than we are.”
I understood that within their culture there were strata that were recognized/not crossed because of presupposed ideologies

What is 'black culture'? it's a construct with as many meanings as there are people to define it...There is no black culture, just like there is no yellow culture, white culture, or red culture.
Scottish and Swedish are not the same
Sri Lankans and Indians have their own separate lore and pride
China is full of numerous different cultures and dialects despite them being all Chinese in looks.
The idea that black people world wide are ONE people with ONE culture or way of being and no individuality is the most damaging concept and is a psychological chain endorsed by nearly ALL black leaders working in conjunction with the media, the whole "We black people" thing...There is no "We" go as far back as you like there has NEVER been a "We black people"...No single hue has ever been that united and never will be as i said, different, mythologies, different lores, Africa a land of different gods and goddesses...But i suppose if you lose all of that you become simply 'black' and make it up as you go along
As an example I personally know a tribal African man who told me the concept of black culture doesn't really exist in Africa...They have their tribal names and lore separate from others with THEIR tribal names and lore and THAT is THEIR culture.
There is no such thing as black culture and i've personally observed many lives damaged through trying to adhere to concepts of blackness and black culture instead of simply being themselves as individuals
Also please look into what 'culture' actually is in terms of philosophy and note that the root word of culture is CULT.
As Terrance Mckenna said: Culture is not your friend

I hope the information I share here will be useful to someone. In Québec, Canada, a first wave of immigrants from Haiti occured, in the 1970's. Most of those people were well educated, among them physicians, teachers, administrators. Québec was a destination of choice for those immigrants because they were French speaking people, like our local population.
Even if many had a hard time to get jobs right after their arrival, becoming taxi drivers, etc. Most soon found out a better job related to their higher education, many in rural areas, and they all got along well with the local population, becoming important citizens, contributing to their new community. Those people were definitely a plus for Québec. I think of two of those Haitians who worked as doctors at our local hospital, two great guys, appreciated for their work by the population.
However, I cannot say the same thing about some immigrants who came here afterwards. Many of the more recent immigrants come here to take advantage of the Social Security System, and those people are nothing more than an undesirable burden for a society. I'm pretty sure those gang related shootouts happening in Montréal nowadays are not the result of actions from the First Wave from the 70's.
Those ghettos growing in Canadian Cities are similar to those seen in American Cities like Chicago, New York, etc. They are the result of Social Programs similar to those put in action in the 1960's in the USA by Lyndon Johnson, and those programs do not only harm the black population, they are also harmful to the white people and the other immigrants coming in our country.

Slavery has existed in practically all civilizations. This was also the case in Africa before settlers came. Over several centuries countless East Africans were sold as slaves by Muslim Arabs to the Middle East and other places via the Sahara desert and Indian Ocean. The sale of African slaves can be traced back to antiquity. It became popular in the seventh century when Islam was gaining strength in North Africa. This was seven centuries before Europeans explored the continent and ten centuries before West Africans were sold across the Atlantic to America. Arab Muslims sold captured Africans to the Middle East. There, they worked as field workers, teachers or harem guards, which is why the castration of male slaves was common practice. Initially, the Arab Muslims in Eastern and Central Europe took white slaves to sell them to Arabia. White people were still being bought and sold as slaves in the Ottoman Empire, decades after American blacks were freed.

@Cheese Doodle nyggah You'd rather nit pick when the last slave was freed in America rather than celebrate the FACT that America ended slavery and helped free other parts of the world from slavery. You'd rather ignore the fact that slavery existed in Africa CENTURIES BEFORE settlers came, and CENTURIES BEFORE black slaves were brought to North America. Here's a nit pick for you: Africa has recorded the highest rate of modern-day enslavement in the world.
Armed conflict, state-sponsored forced labor, and forced marriages were the main causes behind the estimated 9.2 million Africans who live in servitude without the choice to do so, according to the 2018 Global Slavery Index. And despite these practices being widespread, slavery has remained a largely invisible issue, in part, because it disproportionately affects the most marginalized members of society, such as minorities, women, and children.
Slavery was especially prevalent in Eritrea and Mauritania, where slavery has even been, at times, an institutionalized practice.

So what made blacks prone to disproportionate crime rates both then and now?

As for the context, the origins of the issue are open to debate, however the consequences are not, that ghetto gang culture is sickening, and is destroying entire communities.
And, for hispanics, it would be wise to reflect on these issues, dressing, tattooing and speaking as gang members is not a tribute to our ancestry, stupid reggeaton is not part of our culture, all these stuff only alienates other communities against us, and eventually will isolate ethnics even more.

I feel like if we want to get rid of bigotry and prejudice, we have to view people as individuals. By framing people in terms of a demographic they belong to, you are making the assumption that all people in that group are similar and you diminish their individuality. I am not trying to downplay the plight of people of color in America by saying this. I am saying what this video is saying: the means must justify the ends. We will never see each other as individuals if we frame every debate as demographic against demographic. In a world that is truly just, demographic would be irrelevant. I am aware of the optics of my saying this in a discussion about the struggle of black people, something I can't obviously relate to, but I also say this as a person who has struggles as an individual - with personality quirks, beliefs, and things that set me apart from others on an individual basis. The welfare state exists because society has done such a poor job of prioritizing the individual. Until society moves in that direction, prejudice will always be around, as well

Y’all do realize Sowell is a major sellout right?

A very talented man, who has lived a long and productive life and devoted a good deal of it trying to find a path for his suffering people, you have the arrogance and ignorance to label a "major sellout". One day, maybe a long way off, when you are older and wiser, you may remember that statement, and, if so, most likely repudiate it.

Apparently a sellout is anyone who goes against your revisionist history. Sowell was a former marxist who saw the light.
