MAN!!! You nailed that tone! That's a tone Bjorn Riis would be proud of - or the man himself! LOL. Love the Division Bell album - as well as all the Gilmour albums, but especially the On an Island album. Articulate playing and a great explanation at the end
Thanks! This is excellent -- I really want to learn to play this. You certainly have it down pat. I'm using your other two videos to work my way through it. You're my hero for creating this!
Hi Kelly. I watched a few of your videos but I don't think I commented. SO.... this will be my first comment. I truly loved your video on "Muscle Memory", which has nothing to do with this video, but being a Pink Floyd fan I landed here. I always wondered about the pitch shift, thanks. Too fancy for me but great sound. I "played" guitar for most part of my life, I'm 74, or should I use the word "dabble". Bass, rhythm and keyboard was my limit, NEVER lead, too involved. At the ripe old age of 60 my daughter bought me an electric guitar for my birthday and after laying down the "box" guitar for 15 years I started learning "lead", so to speak. What a rocky journey!! I have a big family and most on Facebook so I did a few "Clean" guitar instrumentals and posted for the family. Also being from the 60's etc. I liked the Scorpions. And because of your tutorial on Muscle Memory I was able to learn, "Wind Of Change", the full song plus the solo, which is not too hard to do but for a guy in his 70's, it's like climbing mount Everest's bigger brother. It took me about 6 months to learn and play that song on 5 guitars. Normally the solo is played on one guitar along with harmonising but I could not get it right so I used two guitars which sounded the same. Bear in mind I was 72 when I did this song. My first distorted sound instrumental. I just wish I had started learning lead 55 years ago like David Gilmour. But thanks to your muscle memory video I nailed "Wind Of Change". I know it's not one of your tutorials but you helped me learn it. Thanks Kelly.
Wow beautiful performance Kelly Dean. This is certainly one of David Gilmour‘s masterpieces. Among many. I’ve always aspired to learning this song but there are no lessons until you came along! You can find endless lessons for comfortably numb, but for this song “marooned“. Almost nothing. Thank you for taking the time to break this one down in detail-and really explaining the tone including that octave pedal👍👍❤️❤️🎸🎸
Killer performance and tone! I really love this format which I found very intuitive and inspiring. I found so interesting the song analysis, your approach to learning the whole solo and your amp and effect choices to achieve the tone. Thank you so much, really! Looking forward to more Gilmour/PF stuff :) Regards from the UK.
Well put together, hard work pays off! Thanks for the time taken to put together this vid it's been very informative, I've been listening to when Gilmour uses the pitch wah pedal(pod go pink floyd experiencepreset pack has it works very welk) - alot easier when you break the song down in chunks, nail each chunk as you go, but definitely listen to the song closely, even backing tracks and see yourself playing the parts in your head while listening to the full track by pinkfloyd. Many thanks.
Great performance once again by KDA. The addition of the tone discussion is excellent and hopefully becomes part of each performance/tutorial. This channel keeps getting better all the time. Just signed up on Patreon.
You are reading my mind for choosing your lesson! Marooned is my all time favorite. I think this will be playing at my funeral:-))) thanks again for this one
🙏He, I really thank u sir, I was trying to play this beautiful music for some time without success to learn this song on my one. first, I gonna look for the paddle.
I've been trying this cover last few days. My God. The boss me 80 octaves too hi or low. Plus I keep forgetting where I am at as well the different nuances are key. Hahaha you killed it man!!! Nailed.
Great way to demonstrate your technique, very much enjoyed the video. I think you would enjoy listening to and studying Francis Dunnery and his guitar playing.
Excellent! I would love to try those BiasFX2 settings but mine is crashing at present. Nonetheless, keep the idea up and do make into a series, I'm sure many of us would be interested on learning how to reach certain results (like dropping the effects long chain and feed it directly to the amp to avoid noise) and many others in using straight up your settings in BiasFX2. The reason why so many people ask for Gilmour tones is because it's not all that clear how one gets to that (beautiful) mix of gain, clarity, spaciousness and articulation. But it is clear to you and you can show us 😀. Cheers!
I know for a fact i hit the like on every video. I come back to them later to see no like. Thats Nuts. UA-cam is so broken. Love your teaching my amazing talented Friend. Ive gotten a drumkit. So ill be adding my main instrument of most of 1980 to 2005. 06. Its been since 06 since i sat behind one. Oh my God. Im super rusty. But the good news is. I think once i get the gifted little Ddrum kit (starter) set up with a working kick pedal (looking for a nice speedking like i used for 20 years or iron cobra or any kick thats working responsive ) and then a cymbal pack. Ill gether tuned and then the beating and practice will begin. Slowly ill be making drum videos hoping to do lessons. If i am still amy good by then. Hahah. Thanks for all you do brother. I cannot wait to try and make full songs recording. Illl need drum mics. Man this is all gonna take time and selling some gear. Ill make sure to keep 2 guitars. One processor and the rest will be to fund the kit ....Not stoppint guitar. I picked it up for a reason!!!! Im a musician. I cant not play it all. Or try. Hahah
wow man i am very surprised in the positive sense . just great play and explain thanks friend. I also have a question can you also use the digitech whammy DT ........ should still buy this one supper man👍👍🎸🎸
I think that they are the same. The DT however can change the tuning of your guitar. As long as it can bend the pitch in real time, then it should be fine.
Excellent performance. Marooned is one of my favorites instrumentals. Love the details on the tone analysis. Was wondering if you had that Whammy in the chain. I have the Pod Go, but have not had much success with the Whammy yet. Now waiting for your lesson video.
I learned this a few years ago, and I have just come back to it and stumbled across your channel to re-learn a couple parts I forgot, and to see if there were sections you played different from how I learned them. One of the issues I always had with performing this song was the EQ. When I dialed in the tone I liked, I found the octave up sections to be overly strident and ice-picky. If I dialed in the EQ for those sections to try and tame the highs, then the other parts were too dark and muddy. I always wondered if there was different EQ applied in post-production to the different sections, and perhaps that was the reason David so rarely performed this one live (3 times, I think I read somewhere). Did you apply any different EQ to different parts? In any case, you've figured out a much better balance between the sections than I've been able to. Great work, and thanks for the tutorial. Subscribed.
I also found that when I raised the pitch, really really shrill and high (too high) when practicing. However in the mix with a backing track it worked much better and didn't sound as ear piercing. I'm sure Gilmour's isolated guitar to this would sound much the same. The pitch shifting pedal makes a difference as well. I used a multi effect pedal with pitch shifting first and it was unbearable to listen to. When I switched to the Digitech whammy it was much better.
Again excellent source of info thanks a lot....i had a idea maybe in this war time and all whats going on could you the lesson of a great day for freedom ... I would like to learn this and make the video for support the ukraine... What do you think???
Why doesn't this have more likes?
This is great!
A damned fine question!
I've never seen anyone explain David Gilmour's tonality so well.
Well done !🤟🤟
MAN!!! You nailed that tone! That's a tone Bjorn Riis would be proud of - or the man himself! LOL. Love the Division Bell album - as well as all the Gilmour albums, but especially the On an Island album. Articulate playing and a great explanation at the end

Man, between helping me learn this song and the live version of comfortably numb you’ve definitely earned a subscriber

You are reading my mind for choosing your lesson! Marooned is my all time favorite. I think this will be playing at my funeral:-))) thanks again for this one
Update! I bought the EHX pitch fork pedal on marketplace with a sonic vexpress pedal and it works great! cheaper than whammy.
WOW! what a fantastic amount of work! wonderful!..and thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your tone info...so appreciated!
🙏He, I really thank u sir, I was trying to play this beautiful music for some time without success to learn this song on my one. first, I gonna look for the paddle.

Phenomenal Kelly! Nailed it as per usual!
Thanks Jimmy! Good to hear from you. All good?
Fantastic lesson!! Please Please keep these coming, I often can get the notes pretty good but I seldom get the tone right

i have one bottle whisky i crying love you
If you swapped this cover in for the actual Division Bell recording almost no one would be able to notice!
Unbelievable
I wonder how do you get the right sound settings "presets" for every song exactly right!! I struggle with that.

Один в один.
Thank you! I've been doing few covers of Pink Floyd and this video was very informative!
