This episode contains some lessons that many people learn as they go through a divorce. Here are four things to avoid as you go through the divorce process: Don’t do anything shady. Don’t believe your ex-spouse about what is going on in your divorce. Don’t be oblivious about what is going on in your marriage and family. Consult an attorney for either your whole case or on a limited basis. Some people try to get away with suspicious activity when going through a divorce. One of the most common examples is moving sums of money around or trying to hide assets. They may try to adjust their income in an effort to pay less support later. Avoid doing these things. It will probably come back to haunt you. If you have not been in the loop with regards to the marital finances, you may still have a sense that there is something odd going on with your spouse. If you were the primary earner in the marriage, you may think you are being clever by hiding money, but your spouse is probably not oblivious to what you are doing. When you have been married to someone for a long time, they will probably know if something is out of the ordinary. Suspicious actions can come back to hurt you later. Don’t do anything out of the ordinary, because it can hurt you later. Some people are coming from a relationship where there was an imbalance of power. Maybe your spouse was in charge of more things in the household and was more dominant in the relationship. They may be making threats about custody or keeping assets from you. Any time you hear threats from your soon-to-be-ex-spouse, you should ignore them, aside from communicating them to your attorney. Spouses can say a lot of things to try to scare you. Just understand that there are laws to ensure a decent outcome for both parties. Your spouse’s threats are likely to be empty. As soon as you know that divorce may be in the near future, you need to take control of your life. Get your credit report. Make sure you know about all of your credit cards, retirement accounts, and any other debts or assets. Gather up important documents like your estate plan and your will. Be aware of your expenses and what it costs to maintain your lifestyle. You need to take control of every area of your life. Your attorney will not figure everything out for you. You cannot ignore this and hope it will go away. Some people try to pursue a divorce themselves, without an attorney. This usually happens when the divorce is mostly amicable and they can reach an agreement on most of the issues in the divorce. However, it is important to ensure that whatever settlement you reach will make sense for the both of you. If you end up doing something that’s far outside the bounds of the law for your state, you may not be making the best deal. You also could be missing a large element of your divorce. There are regulations for some aspects of divorce, like custody agreements, that you need to be familiar with. It’s a good idea to consult an attorney to make sure your settlement is within bounds. Even if you are an attorney in another area of the law, you are probably not equipped to handle family law. In my position I have a retirement plan with my union which is only worth x amount and other hand my spouse has a 401k that's worth at least three times what mines worth We own our house our bank accounts are even on our car issues are even what's the best plan to proceed.
Mine has been moving money also. He has 3 passports and says he will leave the country and I won't get a penny.
Hope he doesn't go to a country without extradition

I keep busting the impending ex with his financial shenanigans. I am virtually certain, he’s now having to draw funds from his hidden cash stash. This now allows me to shadow him and watch the method he’s using to pay for costs. I have little doubt he’s hiding 50 to 70,000 in marital funds. I have him backed far enough against the wall so it broke or tap his hiding account
I have a question my parents got divorced in 1995. I got a hold of the divorce decree but its no settlement agreement. Do I get the settlement agreement from a different court or does that mean they didn't do a settlement or any custodial agreement through the courts. Also if they didnt do a settlement agreement would that be considered automatic joint custody at the time. I was born in wedlock.

Is this just in the US, ive been married for over 50 yrs and i.m 70 yrs and havent got alot.of education! Im at the poverty amount, dont get money like he does with his pension.
He says he doesnt have to share his pension with me, he says his lawyer told him he doesnt have to!
Theres a house that we both own, theres a trailer and a truck involved too that i own part to.

@Thelma And my rule: Trust yourself. Be true to yourself. Your instinct/gut/intuition/Universe/God whatever you want to call it, which is within you, will guide you through all of this. Even through the tricks, and traps 🪤 set up to hurt you. The key is: as long as you trust yourself. Listen to yourself. Focus on your instinct. Remember the lions, leopard 🐆, even their prey go by instinct. I know, we may have a faltering system, but if pay attention, focus your antenna your GPS will guide you. Praying for you. Can somebody comment and help? I am divorcing my wife. Have a lovely daughter. The most disturbing thing about this divorce is the fact that my daughter will be raised by another man. It seema that I will get the custody of my daughter but again if my ex marries another man there will be another guy in my daughter's life. And all these things disturbe me very badly. What do you suggest? How can I overcome this feeling? What should I do?
I'm going through it too with those thoughts, man... I think for me... the best thing one could do is make the most out of the time with your daughter. She's already at a disadvantage having a narc for a parent... but u can show her what a real relationships feel like... and show her how genuine people interact with eachother... as she grows up... she'll figure out who's real in her life... but yeah... just make the most of your time with her... and i wouldn't stress about what I can't control.... but always be there for her... hope it helps.... good luck brotha...

I would suggest counseling. It’ll really help! Your child will live a happier life if her Dad and Step-Dad get along, even if it’s only for the kid’s sake. I tell you this from the child’s perspective.
