11:07 okay I’m so glad we talk about this. This movie’s version of Ben’s parents is my favorite because their passive, hands-off parenting totally explains why Ben can be selfish, stubborn, or bratty, considering they might just let him get away with Everything and always get his way. So when Max imparts actually lessons in maturity to Ben, he sometimes lashes out, but ultimately learns from Max.
That's something also addressed in the "little moments" fanfic (yes really) where Ben's parents are pretty lenient carl is a labour worker and Gwen's parents are controlling and manipulative it honestly just gives the original series so much appreciation and context than actual cannon.
@@PauloSM-rs5hq But Idk, That doesn't quite address a lot of times where, unless the threats just weren't present, Ben 23 would've died or at least lost. Granted, I can't remember if they said specifically WHEN Max died.

If we assume Verdona did some parenting before leaving to space, it kind of makes sense that Carl would turn into this chill, free spirit type of parent. At the same time, it makes sense why Gwen's dad would be completely opposite of that if he had a worse relationship with her than Ben's dad did.

I think that Eon couldn't use his time powers directly on Ben because of an effect similar to the sotobro effect. Ben and Eon were linked at one point in time causing Ben to have some level of understanding of what happens when time is manipulated keeping him from slowing down or freezing entirely.

13:25 I like the Ultimate Alien Verison of his minions being alternate Ben's, Yeah you can say that makes Ben look weak in alternate timelines but alternate Ben's doesn't need to be as powerful as Ben Prime, That also makes Eon very legit and goes to show you how intimidating and badass he is the fact that he was able to capture alternate Ben's that makes his character very solid and believable.

This movie used to scare me, the though of Ben’s powers being used against him to turn him into another being, essential killing his conscience, was very unsettling.
I thought the prototype Omnitrix having a 10 minute limit was an intentional design of Azmuth's, to ensure that the wielder of the Omnitrix does not abandon their identity as a member of their original species. For example, preventing what happened to 11-year-old Ben with Feedback in Omniverse.
@@morganrussman Well Azmuth put that feature in before knowing who would wield the Omnitrix, so if I had to presume, he might have removed that feature after knowing Ben for so long, and knowing Ben wouldn't make that mistake again?
It’s funny, I initially thought Eon was an alternate version of Ben well before that’s what he was retconned to be. I thought he was a future version of Ben who went back in time to ensure his existence by causing it, but failed.
This movie is a perfect example of idea vs execution. The story seems so cool on paper, but how it was executed, does'nt really make it exciting, although Principal White is the best part in the movie
Race against time is the kind of movie that i dont want to rewatch because i just remember it being better as a kid. Like how i was blown away with the alien’s CGI as a kid but now it looks dated. I still think it was entertaining since i rewatched like 5 times as a kid.
I'm surprised you didn't harp on how ben literally tried to MURDER eon and his minions. He didn't know if they were fire resistant or normal humans and he just went full supernova
Eh, throughout this review series, he has commented on how Ben doesn’t really have a problem with trying to kill some of his enemies, atleast in the OG series
If you think about it, maybe this is why Eon always has different henchmen. I think after the aliens were killed in the movie, he started kidnapping Bens from other dimensions. And after they were returned home, he built the robots to replace them.
Crazy to think that Graham Phillips is the actor that plays Harry Osborn in Insomniacs Spider-Man 2, and Yuri Lowenthal is Peter’s voice actor and teen Ben’s voice actor. So both of these actors have portrayed Ben in one way or another and they were both in Spider-Man 2.
In *Clock Tower, Eon* said *“This place is already dying for me, remembrance fading, stolen away”,* I always felt that was a hint that Eon was a version of Ben. He even claims to know the Omnitrix very intimately.

You could argue that another reason why it isn’t canon is because Ben turning into Eon breaks the rule that he transforms into that species equivalent of a 10 year old. Unless that’s what a 10 year old chronian looks like
You could also argue that since Eon overridden the Omnitrix's failsafes he just turned Ben into a clone of himself rather than Ben's equivalent of a Chronian.
I like the idea that Ben relies on Max to be disciplinarian. Someone to keep Ben on the straight and narrow. I can totally see how with this interpretation of Ben's parent's, a Max-less Ben would eventually become Ben 23.

Coming back to this breakdown, Graham Phillips (live action Ben in this film) plays Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man 2 game and Yuri Lowenthal (voice of teenage Ben) plays Peter Parker in the game. So in Spider-Man 2, it’s like young Ben and teenage Ben talking to each other through the game lol

It's interesting seeing you talk about the voice actors for the aliens and comparing the characters with their animated versions because I live in Brazil and have only seen the dub version, where everyone has the same voice as in the cartoon.

@@brawmankerlexterminateurde860 the 4 aliens in this movie weren't a random thing. They were the first 4 aliens he turned into in the original series. Not in chronological order but. @@SeyeAwonuga I don't know, I think it's pretty interesting that you brought it up. Though had they wanted it more obvious, they could've had it be in chronological order, and had Ben Start out as heatblast, scare the kids as wildmutt, done the diamondhead gym scene, then had him fight Eon as XLR8, which I think actually would've been really cool since Eon can slow down time and such and XLR8 is real fast.
Well, this review made me reconsider how this movie is. Side Characters here are the best and i never noticed it. Specially the waitress gal. Definately agreed on the CGI being wonky at times, but i do like the Omnitrix effects. Cheesy but fun.
As a kid, I loved this movie. I only saw it once, but I was hyped when I first did. My parents watched it with me too. Even when Eon showed up again in cannon I went "wait a sec that ain't what I remember, guess they changed that." I think making the final fight fourarms instead of wildmutt would have been better, even if I'm not the biggest fan of him and think he's a bit overrated, just because of him being one of the main two, heatblast being the other. Also I did notice a small mistake of what you remembered (unless I somehow remembered wrong) but they created the grand canyon when trying to destroy it, not just turn it off like you seemed to remember it as when the two cables turned it off. Though the same point could be made about when it actually does get destroyed so it's not a big deal, just thought I'd point it out though.
My theory is that Eon did that thing with the clock *solely* because he wanted to be dramatic If I was a time-travelling supervillain, I'd want to be dramatic
To be honest I really like the ultimate alien version of eon. The fact that eon is just Ben seems so kind of creepy to me. The fact that not all Ben's are heroes like ours and that there are some that are extremely dangerous. I also like your 5yl version so. As he's like an actual maniac. Anyways I prefer the Ben ten eon from ultimate alien.
In all honesty, i was scared of Race against time as a kid, no joke. But the CGI in my opinion was SO GOOD for 2007 standards, hell you could mistake heatblast's CGI for being a real pyronite
It took me a while to get the "Plumbus est infinitus" on the plumbers' logo, i was like lead is infinite? that's a weird slogan to have, but then i remembered that pipes used to be made of lead and that they are plumbers so it i guess it makes some sense.
To be fair in ultimate alien when Eon shows up in the future to fight Ultimate Ben, Ben says “i beat you as a kid” and Eon says “THAT WASNT ME” so this Eon is most likely an alternate reality doppelgänger that is an alien instead of a Ben
The only thing that annoyed me was the Diamondhead "fight". He was my favorite from the original 10-13 and was hoping for a little more. Like, seriously, STOP FIRING IN THE SAME SPOT, EON!
@@brawmankerlexterminateurde860 basically the reason for cartoon network's reboots, many kids just wanted to see comedic and cool episodes and didnt care about plots and CN took notice of it.
13:50 - I have theory that Chronians are just Humans from a timeline where humanity discovered how to manipulate time and that Eon is Ben from that timeline, and by using his connection to Ben he is able to override the Omnitrix's failsafes and turn Ben into a clone of himself for when he needs a new body.
Eon in 5YL is a Chronian in the story. He keeps body swapping with different Bens, doing so to such an extent that he intwinds himself with Ben's timeline, and even believes fire some time, that he was Ben.
kuro has said that they wont be giving ben any more human like aliens thats why he didnt get kryptonian, also chronians in 5yl are reality warpers so its kinda just to overpowered at a point for ben
Isn’t the point of like, every single alien in the series that they DON’T look human? Tbh I don’t think he should ever have an alien more humanoid than frankenstrike
You perfectly summarized how I've been feeling when it comes to most reviews on UA-cam with the opening bit of this video. It just feels like you can't enjoy anything anymore because "this show/movie is the worst thing ever made" just gets thrown around so much to describe almost everything. It just gets old.
Yeah, it really gets old, and it takes away one's individuality at what your opinion is. For example, you can't enjoy this superhero movie because everywhere people saying that it sucks, and you might end up feeling bad or delusional of your judgment. And don't get me started on all the video essays that takes this "pseudo-intelectual" approach that some content makers do thinking they're so smart; I'm not talking about all of them, some video-essays from the subjects I love I really enjoy, but there's other ones that are simply pretentious and not in an entertaining way
19:52 I don't know why but you saying George Washington forming the plumbers always cracks me up the way you say it so calmly even through I watched the episode so many times.
This movie focus on ben's personal life in bellwood which we didn't get to see in classic. Good bye and good riddance more about alien attacks. It never fails to amaze me as a kid. Just want to see more than 4 aliens tho.
If you ask me, I think it's probably one of the little few live-action adaptations that have a respect for the source material. Even if it was set in a post-05 era of the series, you could still feel that it was Ben 10.
I really do wish we got an episode in Omniverse that's a buddy adventure between Ben and Principal White. Maybe something happens in the school and the two have to team up.
In the Fantastic Four there's a council of Dooms, which is just Doctor Dooms from different universes the prime Doctor Doom has brainwashed to be his slaves. I could see Eon doing something like that to make his minions.
I'll be honest as a kid I enjoyed this movie It felt unique and fun And most importantly it was almost like a dream come true seeing a human turn into ben 10 aliens
I forgot the name of the Principal's actor but that dude is awesome! Makes me wish I saw his Doctor holograms make cameos in Star Trek. Heck, they could've made him a Plumber Medic to reference that Star Trek role. "What is the nature of the medical emergency?" is close enough to "State the nature of your medical emergency."
The one thing I do enjoy about this movie is the rock version of the theme song I heard some people say that they hate the original theme due to the singer sounding pretty bored. But they really like the rock version of the song what do you think?
Original singer sounding bored? I bet its them that are bored Cuz she did an amazing job and was hype almost like the singer from AOT who sing youseebiggirl ost
I mean, in the AF episode ‘Grounded,’ it starts with Ben’s mom talking about how great her son is. She explains this is because she hasn’t stunted him and has let him grow as a person by granting him so much freedom, which kinda pairs with the “call us Susan and Carl, we’re all equals” from the movie. But other than that, I don’t see the hippie theme again either.
I feel that taking inspiration from 5 Years Later, Eon's henchmen could be all 3 incarnations being accurate as he uses all of them. Captured warriors from across time who were altered into monsters, alternate versions of Ben and robots. Also, the Grand Canyon thing with the Hands of Armageddon may imply that a blast of energy was sent back in time.
Same thing goes with the whole Omniverse fans vs UAF fans, It's always one side saying "oh the art style is lame" or the other saying "shows takes place in dark too much" Instead of shitting on the series so much, Why not tell the future generations what makes each show epic ! Ultimate Alien on one hand The plot, the Ultimate forms, the dozens and dozens of fan-made ultimate alien art that took over the internet, the adult humor, Forever Knight being built up and booked SOLID & thus them getting their own arc, then you have Aggregor one the most badass villain written with no fun no games just straight up a man on a mission ! UAF did exactly what it needed to and nailed it for it's target audience ! Omniverse on the other hand also had Amazing moments who can forgot the emotional feedback return or the brilliant time work arc with Paradox and Maltruant or the premier of Arc-6 with Chronosapien Time bomb. Each series for it's targeted audience delivered one way or another, Ben 10 fans needs to unite. You would never see Avatar or Invincible fans shitting on their shows as much as Ben 10 fans on Reddit and forums does.
I appreciate Omniverse more now than back when I saw the first images but Omniverse still doesn't feel like Ben 10 to me, and Ben's overall personality makes me forgive his mental regression in Ultimate Alien and the overall world has this fan made vibes, that's not all bad let me tell you but it really doesn't fit with what came before. So basically I like to pretend that Omniverse is just a another universe that's kinda similar to the one we know
When you mentioned Chapter 11 coming out “in a few months” I was like ‘oh damn, no longer TBA then??’ But nah I totally get it, making a comic is so much work and I applaud what you’ve done. 5YL is so cool, and I can’t wait for the next chapter. I’m also really excited for the motion comic, it looks dope from the trailers so far!
I only just realized, although it might be unintentional, there's a parallel between the Omnitrix and the hands. The Omnitrix is a symbol and tool for peace, while the hands is a tool for destruction. In addition there's also the fact the Hands resembles the Omnitrix dial slightly.
So here's something I never thought of: Why are there so many Plumbers just living in Bellwood? Is the town just *that* prone to alien/supernatural incidents that it requires so many of them living there? Or was the town originally built by the Plumbers as a sort of retirement home for them? 🤔
My idea is that the Max's squad decided to stick together after their retirement which is why they all settled down in Bellwood. Except for Devlin Levin who would have died before retirement, maybe his death was the turning point for the squad deciding it was about time they retired.
Also, if you think about it, maybe they could have brought back a lot of random characters from the series and reveal that they are Plumbers: And then there were 10: Yosemite Park Ranger Washington B.C.: Regis, Roger and Dr Kelly The Krakken: Captain Shaw Tourist Trap: Earl A Small Problem: Brad Side Effects: Councilwoman Laing Under Wraps: Joan Maplewood The Unnaturals: The President The Return: Steve Cummings And that’s just a few suggestions!
I fully agree with the opening statement. I see a lot of people insult movies for not being exactly like other movies. Especially when it comes to Spider-Man. I enjoyed the Raimi directed trilogy from 2002-2007, but I also really enjoy the MCU movies. Yet there are so many people who are overly critical and will explicitly express how they feel about someone’s intelligence for liking either one. On both sides. Yes, criticism is valid. If you don’t like a movie, that’s totally fine. But we need to learn to strike the balance of expressing what we like and don’t like, or if you don’t want to, you also don’t have to. Some people just like or don’t like things and like to leave it at that. I’m one of those people. In the end, just respect the opinions of others and just agree or disagree peacefully.
People hate on MCU fans coz most of them go out of there way to diss other franchises, while they have no idea about that particular franchise and even about marvel comics themselves. Any new movie no matter how poorly made gets praised to hell( like black widow). Obviously opinions exist but you can't blame people for being annoyed by these antics.
I agree completely! A lot of older movies, not really old movies like Will Wonka, but older films like this, Sam Raimi's films, get alot of hate, but really I think alot of newer films aren't too great, in my opinion, mainly because nowadays everything tries to be the next MCU.
The Maguire-only fans are WAYYY too toxic, like, Tobey is my favorite as well, but I like Tom and Andrew as well (except Far from Shit that movie was TERRIBLE for a spiderman film, but the problem wasn’t Holland, he did a good portrayal, the problem was the PLOT and the underwhelming use of Mysterio)
I love this movie, because the last time I saw it with my friends we had this running bit that grandpa max was trying to kill ben just like his father before him and it just kept getting better, like when the rust bucket blew up or when he suddenly appeared in bens room it all just fit too perfectly.
The voice actor for the character in the cartoon also being the actor in the movie is an amazing choice because it feels exactly like the character is there in real life
I wonder if the reason they didn’t keep the same voice actors for the movie was because they were making the other stuff at the same time? Maybe the original VAs were busy with the other two projects and their roles so they just couldn’t squeeze time in for the movie. But that’s a stretch I know lol

That's something also addressed in the "little moments" fanfic (yes really) where Ben's parents are pretty lenient carl is a labour worker and Gwen's parents are controlling and manipulative it honestly just gives the original series so much appreciation and context than actual cannon.

I very strongly agree with that theory! I was actually thinking the same thing.
Eon does seem like the type of villain to always be swapping out his minions to try and adapt to his newest plan.
This is probably the best explanation for it
If we assume Verdona did some parenting before leaving to space, it kind of makes sense that Carl would turn into this chill, free spirit type of parent. At the same time, it makes sense why Gwen's dad would be completely opposite of that if he had a worse relationship with her than Ben's dad did.

Yesss... Upgrade could have been the easiest to make into live-action. All that had to happen was that he had to be shiny, I'm sure that would have been easier than Wildmutt
With 11 year old Ben and feedback, what about Ben 10k?
@@morganrussman Well Azmuth put that feature in before knowing who would wield the Omnitrix, so if I had to presume, he might have removed that feature after knowing Ben for so long, and knowing Ben wouldn't make that mistake again?
@josephhelms2362 well, with master control, it is clarified that azmuth had an idea, but just never anticipated it would end up on ben instead of max.

But how do we explain the chronian thing
@@skibot9974 Ben messes with time too much. Heck the whole universe started as it did because of him being there. So, that caused Eon and the whole chronion stuff to come to be.
@@skibot9974 I wouldn't be surprised if he has his own retcon and suddenly discovered that actually Max was somehow half chronian and with the time traveling shenanigans he started to lose his ties to earth and became sort of a chronian savior

Agreed
and then there are the reboot fans
Avatar fans: Korra bad lol
I appreciate Omniverse more now than back when I saw the first images but Omniverse still doesn't feel like Ben 10 to me, and Ben's overall personality makes me forgive his mental regression in Ultimate Alien and the overall world has this fan made vibes, that's not all bad let me tell you but it really doesn't fit with what came before. So basically I like to pretend that Omniverse is just a another universe that's kinda similar to the one we know
@@ilyassebenana3824 every fan of a series has people in it that are bad. UAF stans being the worst
I'm just glad this isn't one of the movies that directly disrespects the source material like dragon ball evolution or the last airbender movie
@Siboniso Buthelezi And it was done for television, now that is even more surprising
It's probably the only one of the few that didn't do it
When you mentioned Chapter 11 coming out “in a few months” I was like ‘oh damn, no longer TBA then??’ But nah I totally get it, making a comic is so much work and I applaud what you’ve done.
just like gravity falls
Maybe this was a base they set up just in case. Having small towns scattered around the US with agents is more convenient.
My idea is that the Max's squad decided to stick together after their retirement which is why they all settled down in Bellwood. Except for Devlin Levin who would have died before retirement, maybe his death was the turning point for the squad deciding it was about time they retired.
Yeah, I kind of wish that they appeared in the cartoons as well.
Also, if you think about it, maybe they could have brought back a lot of random characters from the series and reveal that they are Plumbers:
And then there were 10: Yosemite Park Ranger
Washington B.C.: Regis, Roger and Dr Kelly
The Krakken: Captain Shaw
Tourist Trap: Earl
A Small Problem: Brad
Side Effects: Councilwoman Laing
Under Wraps: Joan Maplewood
The Unnaturals: The President
The Return: Steve Cummings
And that’s just a few suggestions!
I personally believe Tom Holland is bad for being too different but can accept other opinions
Yes and some of us doesn't care that much
I agree completely!
